There's reasons as to why pack racing works so well at Daytona and Talladega. A. the banking and B. (which is ironically probably one of the most important part) the space. Talladega has roughly three to four lanes, with room for a fifth lane, and even a sixth lane for the risky daredevils. Atlanta has two and maybe three in the corners, with the lanes just narrowing at the transition of the corner and straightaway.
What's so frustrating, is that the closest track that they had for a true third Superspeedway, was Auto Club. It had the wide racing surface, potential 4 or 5 lanes in corners and straightaways, the banking wasn't there, but the size was. It was even over 2 miles long. Now it's being turned into, if going by blueprints, a New Hampshire and Martinsville ugly baby. All they had to do, was raise the banking, and advertise Auto Club as a superspeedway, and now that will never happen, because NASCAR doesn't have much of a brain anymore, let alone the logic for their brains to have.

Your take on the Atlanta wreckfest is spot on as usual. I watch the whole race green flag to checkerd while I'm not as disappointed with the race as a whole these drivers need to tone it back a bit. The aggression in the series is at an all time high and I've been watching nascar over 40 yrs. I'm really looking forward to the cup race tomorrow and we hope that the pace car doesn't lead the most laps like today. Cars at speed are a rush, cars single file following the latest HOT street model production vehicle at 55 Miles an hour is not. Love the channel buddy.

I feel like the lack of practice and increase aggression in these lower series were a large cause of all these cautions. People just want to find a reason to hate on new Atlanta. My dad who’s a very casual fan gets bored with the normal 1.5 mile style races and the second half of this race had him very interested. I really hope they figure out how to make this new configuration work since I think it will help bring in new fans.

funny. Josh Williams pulled a KB moment yet the comments show different opinions. Often if KB did something like this, he would be considered a salty baby, but Josh is a legend. Though I think it is funny myself, it's funny to see the contradiction of many fans.

On the bright side, the 12 Hours of Sebring happened. Another great action-packed certified Sebring IMSA Race and the big one was insane! Half of the cars involved were the GTP leaders and 2 of them were Penske cars! SO, crazy day.

Totally agree on bringing back practice. I feel some of the early carnage in the Xfinity series race was the teams taking a shot at the setup going for speed and making the cars unforgiving and hard to drive.
A few practice laps would have allowed some adjustment.

Williams pointed out in his interview after the hauler that it is part of the NASCAR rule book and he accepted that.
Funny how we ignored that when Chase Elliott had his rear bumper literally hanging off for several laps before it eventually came off and caused a caution anyway.

On why the mess in Atlanta, I chalk it up to lack of experience and the xfinity car. I thought this last night when we saw the video the first time, and I feel it re-enforced watching today's cup race. The "kids" in xfinity just aren't super speedway racers yet. Think of where most of them come from. The lower levels (for the lack of a better term) of racing just don't have the packs that super speedway do have. Thanks Eric for your channel! Keep up the great work!

Watching the race live was a nightmare because of the ENDLESS cautions. I can agree with that. But the racing at the end was INCREDIBLE and I LOVE this track! It’s like if Daytona and Bristol had a baby! It’s a baby superspeedway! The tight corners make it way more sketchy and the drivers have to actually work to fight to the front in a fast paced pack race!! It’s so dope if you ask me. I am definitely interested in how it will pan out over the years with west and tear. Will the cars slow down and drive more like an intermediate? Will it become one lane like texas did? Another thing. The cracks and replaced patches gave me a sort of nostalgia to the old surface of talladega, before the repave. All those filled in cracks and bumps gave dega so much character!
