The rope isn't like the brake on a car. It's more like an airbag or seatbelt. So there're the people who wanna have as much safety as possible and on the other hand there're people who like really old cars without all that safety or assistance equipment. But why are those people liking it? I think because of the pur feeling. The feeling that there's only you and the machine and nothing else. And I think it's the same in free soloing. Just you, the rock and nobody else. I don't do free soloing but I can understand people doing it. Just my two cents.
I'm not a climber, what so ever, but I still find myself enjoying watching Hazel climb and move. Amazing athleticism, calmness and massive she-balls. Mad respect!
I love the poetry of this... the essence of simply being, sans opinion and interpretation... life at its purest. People who need this see past the illusion of identity. Embracing the vast emptiness rather than desperately trying to fill every moment and space with stuff... afraid to face life and the end of life. Eternity is hard truth, but all truth is sublime. Becoming space and time rather than being trapped in it is sublime. This is the only sane reason to face annihilation, in the endeavor to blast away that which is not indestructible in the human spirit. Arriving ultimately at transcendence.
rutto noise just had the same thoughts in mind.. Dont know if i like that attitude of free solo being something really cool and everyone is able to watch that, I think its pretty missleading. Still a really nice shot with an amazing athlete!
@@MrApetape I think Jimmy said it best in one of the interviews for Free Solo: free soloing is a pretty self-regulating activity. You might see all these in the media and be inspired to go free solo but the second you stand at the bottom of the cliff with no gear, if you're not fully prepared mentally to do that, you're going to listen to your instincts and back off.
I love the mental game of climbing. No way would I never free solo but those screaming thoughts are still there with ropes. Feels so sweet to push past them.
Great video and classic routes. Apart from what people think nobody out there suddenly decides to free solo because of shots like these and dies. Anyone who can climb already knows the feeling of exposure and their limits, and anyone who cant will be 5 feet off the ground and realize how scared they are. Who are all these supposed people that just dive in and free solo after watching a youtube video?
this. i guess it's mostly the envy of some to see these people who are passionate about what they do actually doing it and by being so professional making it look as though it was easy or "careless" to perfomr these amazing feats. i wouldn't give it too much thought, some are just helplessly petty about how other people live their life.
Tbh, a reasonable climber wouldn't solo anything anywhere near their top grades, and wouldn't pull on to solo anything unless they have climbed it clean.
@@TheNeverslept Not just climbed it clean, but climbed it clean until they can climb it in their sleep. ... and also never, ever free solo on limestone, of course.
Which is the slate route, I wonder? The other two are the Gates and Diagonal, I assume, though the second sequence on the later doesn't look that familiar.
The only experience we have is the moment by moment because the past is just a perception and the future is has not been created. Action without thought is the perfect experience. It is only achieved in mastery over the process of a repeated action or a dangerous one which requires total focus.
Ever the inspiration. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I find myself in the same state of mind when I climb. Much respect to you. You’re one of my favorite climbers and thinkers.
Hazel looking extremely fit atm. Think that she's turned the shoulder and finger injuries to her long term advantage. Some people look up to footballers or basketballers or maybe boxers or UFC fighters or politicians, all those shit ass heroes who supposedly have balls. Hazel Findlay is a hero to me
I know they're mates and of course there's been some interaction going on. Still, Findlay doing some casual little free solo excursions up 'easy' stuff since probably age 18 has nothing to do with the cutting edge solos of Honnold or his Free Solo movie release.
Beautifully done. However I'm really not comfortable with how soloing is being promoted at the moment. Beautiful film pieces being put together making the lure of soloing so much more attractive to the until now none climbing youngster who excels at everything they turn their hand to, usually. I hope this does not end up the summer that brought climbing further into the public eye for all the wrong reasons. Especially after starting off with such positivity at the Oscars, and this little contribution by the beautiful Hazel, without doubt one of the worlds best climbers that many none climbers wouldn't know, or even appreciate until they find themselves out there.
M Hughes, as an aged climber & soloist (in the past) - I’m 61 now. I agree with you entirely. Soloing is such a personal thing, ultimate focus and concentration when on the rock. Let people find there own way in their own time. I too am uncomfortable with the current promotion and glamorisation of it.
Could it be that videos with female climbers are much more ready to admit how terrifying climbing can be? With Alex Honnold, The Wide Boyz (Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker) etc. it’s always just: “Yeah, this part is sketchy and scary as fuck but you just have to carry on and continue climbing” I’m a very nervous and anxious climber myself and just don’t know how to deal with it
"I have everything I need not to fall"? You are freesoloing. You have nothing you need not to fall. That must be one hell of A loud record playing in your head if you have to climb a mountain to shut it up. Honestly though I can relate. Mine is loud, angry and never shuts up.
good footage and so forth but why can't people just do things for themselves but constantly seek validation via youtube likes. "the emptiness is what i'm here for" yeah sure with a fucking camera crew around
@@SeraphinoII If you are doing something cool and inspiring then post it. You don't have to worry about the idiots that might die while trying something like this. Going on the Hymalayas and splatter yourself is far harder than go to the nearest crag and say “i can do it” because reasons.
