Hazel is one of my favourite climbers. She’s so composed and graceful. Wonderful to watch. I reference her to my son all the time as he’s growing and learning to climb harder.
One of my favourite climbs. It feels steep but all the holds are there. But beware getting onto the Girdle Ledge. Some have been known to fluff that move on tired fingers! Great vid!
My 1st. extreme trad lead. Felt so good, I went and led The Thing (E2 5c) lower down to the lhs of the crag. Ah, the memories. God, I'm old. Anyone else with dim, distant and rapidly fading memories of these routes?
Did Cenotaph Corner and Left Wall in the 80’s. Never got to do Cemetary Gates. My mate Pete fell off near the top in the pouring rain. With that we left and never went back to finish it. Hazel has inspired me to go back now.
I remember watching Eric Jones soloing it on BBC TV and I felt much more gripped than when actually climbing it. We did Cemetery Gates, Spectre and Diagonal in one day and I remember driving my motorbike back to South Wales - would've been better to wait a few hours to let the adrenalin subside. All last century, when 'the Gates' was graded HVS 5a.
Class. By the way back in my day The Forest as it is/was called at the top had no vegetation and only some tree stumps but it seems to have grown back now for some reason.
Like that at many crags now. At least at some as a result of much lower traffic levels. Real climbing seems to have become some kind of esoteric niche. 😔
Its a fact. Songbirds have the equivalent of air traffic controllers. If they fly more than 50ft from off the ground they get a little voice in their headsets "watch your altitude bluetit. That airspace is reserved for the screeching birds". If they fail to comply, the fighting falcons are scrambled.
Why the reupload? What a girl. Anyone know if she bothered top roping it first, cos it looks like she's figuring it out as she goes. Also, are E numbers at all relevant if you're free soloing?
Just spotted a small fix to make after last upload :) the E grade represents the boldness and difficulty of the climb so when she's soloing it still gives you how difficult the climbing is
@@StoutProper I mean, yes and no. For one, the E grade system is open ended as the norm, so there is no highest grade, and also you won't for example have a E9 5c, that just wouldn't make sense. So the grade of the route is what it would be for gear still and he solo'd it, he doesn't get a separate grade for soloing it.

Incredible grace of movement and composure! And a sunny day in N.Wales!

Hazel climbs this so well unlike my ascent 40 years ago which I found desperate!

You can't be that old if CG was E1; it was HVS when I did it!

How do you guys only have 6.4k subscribers, this channel genuinely had some of the best content on UA-cam!
Sick! Hazel rules!!!!!
Great video - what is the music playing please - it's really good but no mention of it
She always looks so clean.
Give us more of hazel!
Id never could do that, i freak out already just seeing her...

@@datapolo Haha by “real climbing” do you mean trad?
Such a beautiful soul!
Awesome!!!
Amazing
Loved the music choice
The routes called cemetary gates..
Fabulous filmed climb. Made it look easy. But it’s not. 👍👍
Eres un fenómeno!!!!! You are a spider girl ; number one, but be careful. Anyway congratulations.
Great clip!
Free soloing a route Called “cemetery gates” I’m sure the irony didn’t escape her 😅
Wow
Very cool looking rock, but the solo aspect is kinda terryfying
how does E15B translate to the other scale of 9a or 8b+ and so on
It's about 6a+ but if you are placing gear probably equivalent to a 50+m sport route of that sort of grade.
Hazel is good to watch. Maybe a narrative of the climb would help. The music is distracting and not necessary.
What would Don Whillans make of that!
He would probably say something along the lines of "Well done Lass!", then draw on his cigarette, sip his pint, and return to his pool game.
I wouldn't mind meeting our Hazel at the cemetery gates, like in the song
So just to get this straight.... what I'm watching is a climb with no protection. A fall means almost certain death?
Yes
On a crag where all the major lines are named after church architecture.
Without the almost, yes
ist das jetzt die neue Mode am Fels?? Dass jeder SoloBegehungen macht. Ich finde das echt bedenklich was in dem Sport zur Zeit passiert.
How did she get back down?
Walked
Beautifully shot film, but the sound of the bird chirping when she's 50m about any tree is distracting.
Steve Moore part of the song, you only really hear it with headphones. Also, birds don't exist solely in trees in my experience 😜
Yeah because birds only song in trees....🤔

Hot Aches Productions oh right I thought the e grade was the level of protection you get, I've been misinformed. Thanks!
Guinness Both really, bad/little protection = more bold, more dangerous so higher E grade.
Dusk oh right OK. If you're free soloing it's automatically the highest grade of no protection then 😂

People beside Alex Honnold free solo!??
EverythingViral ru being ironic or just not a climber?
@@BobMarley-vl5gl I'm making a point about how no one but Honnold gets any attention or credit for their soloes.
@@everythingviral972 Go solo freerider and I'm sure you'll get similar attention as Honnold right quick.
Alot of people who solo do not seek attention .
So if she were to make a mistake, or a hold were to give way, she would fall to her death?
Genius.....
How long til ya reckon she’s dead? Her and Honnold.
Both still going strong ;)
