Shirley Ellis is a great singer and the song is epic! Love the dancing too! The facial expressions on Bobby Banas are as priceless as his dancing hair.😆
dancing anytime cheers up this 65 yr old retired TV cameraman/news of 40 years.I wished we had American Bandstand on Canadian TV in the 60s.They also looked like they were having fun dancing.
Shirley Ellis had the perfect voice and rhythm for this song but Bobby Banas gave the finest performance of any dancer of that decade! Banas was the ULTIMATE!
Just watching it again for the hundredth time. Bobby Banas is like liquid flowing with the music. Irs almost like his body is infused in the rhythm and there's no effort on his part because he's so into it.
You have one great singer, and 6 great dancers on screen....yet your eyes can't stay off that one guy in front. Shows how special Bobby Banas was. Often imitated over the years, but never duplicated.
It's wonderful that you combined Shirlery's lip-sync performance on American Bandstand with the dance production number from the Judy Garland weekly hour series on CBS-TV. That's actor Peter Lawford, a show guest, with the intro. Too bad Shirley was not invited to be there herself, but CBS probably felt she was not a big enough star to appear on the same stage as the immortal Judy. They only wanted the dance hit, not its singer. Now, you've "fixed" that omission, marrying Shirley's image to Judy's short-lived, troubled show for all time. Thank you sincerely for honoring Shirley this way.
so very cool..thank you from Kelly in Regina,Saskatchewan...& thank you for the Peter Lawford info...I could'nt at all remember who that guy looked like...I wish I could've grown up watching Bandstand in the 60s but we never got it on local Canadian TV.Darn..or Hullabaloo,Shindig..none of those fun shows...
@@KellysClassics At 76, I can remember first-hand some people and things I mentioned, like Peter Lawford...a now-forgotten one-time actor member of Sinatra's "Rat Pack" (Frank preferred calling it The Clan.) Lawford was pushed into steep career decline when he couldn't deliver John Kennedy to Sinatra's home in Palm Springs for a visit as promised. Frank pretty much kicked him "under the bus" in bitter resentment. Yet, all these decades later, Peter is oddly woven into Shirley's "Name Game" memory by always being heard on several UA-cam vids introducing the song on Judy Garland's show. Fate can be so strange and random, can't it? We in the States unfortunately forget our friends in Canada did not get to see many of our beloved "baby boomer" shows. I regret that. Fortunately, some of those now enjoy something of a "second life" thanks to YT. My praise of your production is sincere...and I'm a retired New York radio/TV producer, so I know excellent video production when I see it. My name is Chuck McKibben, and my bio is on Wikipedia. The dance is reversed at some point, possibly when there’s a close-up of Bana’s feet. It also switches back to forward motion quite late. Takes nothing away from this fabulous, exciting dance. Very cool.
Lady who's front left is clearly the choreographer as shes on point with the moves, meanwhile her partner Bobby Banas was probably like "Sure gal, I'll land your moves. But I'll land them my way"
That is so cool 👍.In Regina,Saskatchewan that album at a 2nd hand store that sells pristine condition albums,I've seen albums as high as $85 (Canadian) .
I've gotta be the only person on this thread who doesn't care for this dance with THIS song. I just find the music too soulful for the herky jerky movements based off the watusi. Now the modern pairing of this dance with the White Zombie song is not only comical, it's fabulous! lol!
Shirley Ellis is a great singer and the song is epic! Love the dancing too! The facial expressions on Bobby Banas are as priceless as his dancing hair.😆
I love this guy!! He was such a legend!!! God bless him!
Well that brought a smile 😀 to my face on a grey rainy day in Wales 🏴
Rain? We have a winter snowstorm in Regina,Saskatchewan.🇨🇦

I thoughtvso too.So very cool.👍🇨🇦
Just found it, keep repeating... Wish there was more footage of Bobby Banas doing this. What an unsung dance legend, to an underused song.
Mir geht es genauso. H.M.
His dance is everywhere now
@@MrHlcg1962 i wanna see an example. I also would love to know who the girl is who keeps up with Bobby and leaves the others in the dust.
There is more footage. Just put best boy dancer of the 60's in the search box on UA-cam. This whole performance comes up.
Goal for the summer is learn this dance
Never get tired of watching that! 😊

Guy at the front dancing was a whole vibe....🕺🕺
yes I thought so too, very lively
He is famous and still alive. He choreographed West Side Story.
That's Bobby Banas, he choreographed it.
@@adriana-jn8ruHe choreographed this number. He did not choreograph West Side Story. That was Jerome Robbins. Bobby Banas had a small part as a Jet.
Thanks for combining the two videos. I love the song and the dance.
Bobby Banas has set the standards of the Nitty Gritty dance so high,
all we the rest can do is keep trying.
This is a cure for depression, you know! 😊
Wonderful
Classy beautiful way ahead of her time simply delicious 🎉❤ magical
Memories of those 60's hits and dance routines! 👍🙂🎭

How do you know Shirley wasn't invited? Maybe she was, and couldn't make it.
Very nice beat and dance performance 👍🏻👍🏻😁😉✌🏼
Nice to see dancers with their clothes on
That guy dances better than a cartoon
Some people are just natural dancing !
Dude in front was dancing next level.
Bobby Banas, the choreographer
The guy on the far right was doing a great job following a tough dance--it was nearly impossible, but he put up a good effort!

We had fun dancing to this
How awesome ❤
Lovely!
Still dance worthy.
I've seen a couple of the TV dance shows doing their dance routine to this song in the last few years...I was 4 in 1963
if you don´t feel like dancing with that kind of music, you´re hopeless, 60ies had the best moves ever

If that is the case,it was done by someone else. Not me.
Why? Is there a version on UA-cam without the editing?
How do you know?

Song needs to be at least twice as long.
I want to get on down the old nitty-gritty myself
Omg

Gina Trokonis. She was also in West Side Story, along with Bobby here. She played Riff’s girlfriend, Graciela with bright red hair.
