Blue is one of the ugliest colors on a car (with the exception of midnight blue). The pearl white multicoat is not only much better looking with blacked out emblems, black rims, and tint on a Model Y, but it hides tiny imperfections over the life of vehicle much better as well.
Looks good . I have a lot rock chips by the bottom of the rear doors both side same area I should have put a ppf there in that spot You think I can use this to touch up that area ? Is more than one spot but mine seems smaller than yours But a larger area with the imperfections. Thoughts ?
I think you can. I would get it as smooth as you can and then apply ppf, see this where I put PPF on the rear ua-cam.com/video/B1zWsYVimUE/v-deo.html its actually not that hard, and when I put PPF on the A pillars after the touch up, they turned out really well. You can't even see where the chip was ua-cam.com/video/lbAinJyQZj4/v-deo.html
Used Tesla’s kit to cover a slightly larger round chip near the rear wheel, and I’ve watched several videos so I don’t think I’m applying incorrectly, but the spot that’s been touched up is permanently dull right? Mine is fairly obvious in the light, and I’ve applied then wiped off the blending solution several times, and car polish after it’s dried doesn’t help.
I did a test and found it to be shiny if I did not use the blending solution, but then I can't get it level. After the blending solution I found it to be a bit dull as well, but with my spot it was small so you really had to get up close to notice. Also I applied paint protection film afterwards and that covered it right up so you can't see it. I never tried polishing, but with a power polisher I'm sure it would be shiny, by hand, probably not. I think you have to use a good quality electrical dual action (DA) on a proper pad to get it shiny.
Thank you for the response! Agree the blending solution seemed to be causing the dullness. Got full nose PPF but didn’t want to have to replace the entire car wrap in 5-7 years, so I guess I just have to live with it as is. Appreciate your video.
@@cynthiavan6844 Thanks, the one thing I was thinking of doing is my hood, I did the front nose, and the door pillars, but I'm finding my hood is getting chips on the highway.
If you want to do it the right way, you have to apply touch up paint, wet sand, compound, polish, wax or clear coat. This is the exact method body shops use to touch up paint.
@@thewarfare34 Yup that would be the right way, the problem with the wet sanding is you have to be sure careful with the paint around the chip (not to feather or take too much clear off) or you will get some good experience painting a panel LOL :) The other thing is I get soo many chips its very time consuming. Next chip I'm going to use the kit, and then try the polish to see how that turns out. I have some good Menzerna polish and professional equipment so I'm going to see how that goes. Appreciate you comment, you know the right way to do it.
what is the Paint Protection you mentioned at the end? Is it like a brushed-on clearcoat? Also, what do you think about fixing the paint scratch with spray-on paint and clearcoat instead?
Hey there, in this video I do the paint protection ua-cam.com/video/lbAinJyQZj4/v-deo.html very easy to do and now you can't ever see there was a rock chip, looks perfect. I wouldn't use spray on paint (you could) but when you spray on the clear its going to go too far beyond the chip. If you mask it then you are going to have a levelling problem. You can get a dissolving/blending aerosol to blend the clear, but its partially removing the factory clear and its easy to screw up. I found the best thing was to touch it up and then apply paint protection film. WHen you touch it up if you use ppf you don't even need the clear coat as the ppf is quite shiny.
Hey there, I bought it direct from Xpel, as there are some imitators out there. They could be good, but I figured get right from Xpel - www.xpel.com/products/paint-protection-film When I was shopping I could not find it on Amazon. Its a bit more money from Xpel, but I didn't have any problems with it. Also I'm not affiliated in any way with Xpel and get no commission (just FYI). I also bought for the front end, but haven't got to editing that video yet. Turned out pretty good. Thanks for the reach out !!
Nice video! May I ask what does the "blending solution" contain? I bought the kit a year ago for a small paint chip and when I needed to use it yesterday, I noticed that the solution has vaporized. So I'm looking for replacement. PS: I have a blue tesla as well, it's great.
Hey there, I don't know whats actually in the blending solution, I guess Tesla thinks its a secret, but I think its just a form of paint thinner, and thats probably why your blending solution vaporized. I have found that reducer (professional) works great but you have to be careful as its really strong and it will dissolve that factory paint. Gotta love the blue !!!
You probably could, but you would have to apply the paint very very thin, then apply the clear and use a mechanical polisher to cut it down and blend the height.
It was not down to bare metal, I think just the paint came off which is kinda rare, but it looked like there was a white primer. Its still good today, no issues at all
Does the kit come with a clear coat to add gloss like the surrounding paint has or does it look like a dull spot? I have blue too and no more than 2 months I have a chip on the hood. Debating whether to do this and wonder if there is a separate clear coat to add to make it glossy to better match the surrounding paint.
Your video is the 5th I've watched on how to use this kit. You know what I noticed? The other 4 videos are the same blue! I wonder if blue just chips easier than all the other colors.
No clear coat, its a blending solution, and it does work pretty well. The paint color was right on. You could buy clear coat if you wanted, but the solution works pretty well.

It's probably paint remover since it removed the excess paint.

Do you think I can use this kit on a nickel-sized deep swirl mark with some paint loss due to using a coarse sponge?
You probably could, but you would have to apply the paint very very thin, then apply the clear and use a mechanical polisher to cut it down and blend the height.
