As if one release wasn't enough, Rafael dropped a 2nd. What are your thoughts on the G2? As always, check the video description for any discounts. Thank you to all the subscribers.
Well done video. I’ve owned 4 different brand paddles. I’ve not considered Gearbox. I would highly consider a Gearbox paddle now because of the detail in research and design that Rafael has invested. The biggest thing for me is Rafael taking the time to explain the paddle as the owner of the company and sharing his story. Thanks for this video.
Brian, so glad you got Rafael on your pod. He's the best across the board to me. Been a Gearbox fan since 2016. My G7 is slick as glass. I've purchased 5 GB paddles since then. Just ordered the new Pro after listening to this pod and another from Ben @ Just Paddles. Who I buy from plays a huge part of my decision, not just price. I'm a Native San Diegan and support for Gearbox and Rafael means a lot to me.
Kim! Stoked you caught this episode then. Damn OG gearbox fan. Agreed on connecting with the individual. Rafael is just so down to earth and honest. Great to see after all these years they have a new product reaching a wider audience.
Another very insightful and informative pod. You keep bringing it with your pods and yours is one of the few that I can't wait for the next one. Thanks for the work and time you put into them and keep them coming. 🏓
Agreed, the information was great, helps show what's going on. Yeah I really didn't see many at all here in Austin recently but I'm sure that'll change here shortly. Thanks for watching as always, Todd.
Great interview. I’m glad I chose gearbox. They have developed quite a brand. My first paddle was simply a prince because I was coming from Tennis and just assumed this is what you do. I soon grew it and started doing the research and I went online, and I finally zeroed in on gearbox and, I built my game around it. the other paddles seem like all the same thing but with different colors and brands. Like tennis rackets back in the 60s and 70s they started changing shape and developing and you had some real unique designs like Wilson T200, Arthur Ashe’s head and then the Prince rackets. Gearbox is the way to go. Quality that lasts.
If you are one of the many who paid a premium for this paddle and got a dud. And Gearbox won't stand behind the warranty. Simply file a claim in your community small claims court to hold them accountable. Not sure what is worse their quality control or their customer service.
Why did you change the grip size? I was getting used to the Racquetball type of grip 3 5/8 and now you do not have that size? Secondly, does the bottom of the handle have the hook to attach a string a la racquetball to keep the racquet from slipping out of the hand? Grip size issue bothers me because now I have to get used to a different grip size entirely.
I did like how Rafael explained the "perception of power determined by the sound alone" - What a defeating thing to learn from client base. To go back to the drawing board after making a decent product that just happened to have a different tone ? People will believe what they want. As they say "Perception is reality".
No doubt. Bummer to see. They set the bar high and sometimes this happens. They’ll iterate and learn from it. Not saying you are, but we (everyone) can’t just write guys like Rafael and Gearbox off. They missed on the expectations for a good amount of people but they’re also human, mistakes happen. But yeah, would love to do a follow-up on what happened. Appreciate the comment.
The Pro Power Fusion I received hits like a control paddle and in the 10 hours I've used it, has gradually lost any power it had at start. I think there's a bad batch or something.
@@buildingpickleballawesome to hear!! I’m listening to this pod now. But dying to know your reasoning for choose the shorter fusion paddles? Cheers, thank you!
@@mathewmccabe2658 I can’t speak for everyone, but the fusion has a lower swing weight, resulting in faster hand speed, while also maintaining similar metrics of spin and power. @johnkewpickleball also has a great Gearbox Pro paddle review and also explains how a little lead tape can also increase twist weight (sweet spot sort of) without changing swing weight all that much. ua-cam.com/video/0WNNMfz6TqY/v-deo.htmlsi=q8y5h2ZaSbeJvcIR .
Man I watched this twice! His information and influence to keep going forward pushing that development. Ha yes I want to bend light around the ball someday or just play a good game . Solid interview 10/10. G2 - sounds great but I’m just getting into this game this year. I played with the cx14 and was yea this is the paddle. Just to much to start. If they had the G2 line out when I got my Vatic i may have gone with that. What I can say is I’ll play with what I have now but I will be going with gearbox on next paddle I buy.
My guy it’s not innovation…he said it himself that his paddle creates a “trampoline effect”…he just figured out how to manufacture a delamed paddle and make it legal…there’s 0 innovation in that…he saw something that added effortless power to a paddle that was deemed illegal by all of the major tours and figured out how to get around the rules and mass produce an error in manufacturing and then turning around and calling innovation
I know that pros have contracts and rep those companies. But i dont think ive ever seen a pro on the PPA or MLP use a gearbox paddle. Anyone know why that is?
Already bought a Gearbox Pro Elongated Power. Also bought a better grip. The one that comes with it looked pretty crappy for $275. I played racquetball in the late '60s when the paddles were completely wood, then in the very late '60s and early '70s, they were wood with holes in them.
so if everyone overgrips, then why not build the grip right and in the right size to begin with / If 4 inches is too little make it 4.5. I dont get it, do the companies like Gearbox know that most people overgrip?@@kimleith1378
Why???…the production model is garbage…they sent out highly tuned paddles to the reviewers and are sending piles of shiiit for the consumers…the consumer paddle is a dump truck
It's just my 'external attention'! 😊 great vids. I've wondered why I naturally anticipate pickleballs. People say I'm so fast, I think I just naturally react faster.
Lol well, what will happen is the $250 paddles (regardless of brand) will turn into $75 …at most…. But you can’t be mad at people capitalizing on pickleball. It’s basically a big moneygrab right now, and most people would take advantage of it if they had the ability…..
yes, and it's like TVs - back in 2010 Samsung had an "ultrathin" 46" LED for about 2400 dollars, then the OLEDs came out no less than 10k - the new tech always starts high price for the "early adopters" . They have to recover the marketing expenses (as he said in the is podcast, marketing is expensive) Same goes for shoes labeled "pickleball"@@NOT_A_TOP_FAN

Lots of good info right there.
I see fewer and fewer people hitting Gearbox. Look forward to seeing if these change that.

Great product management or engineering interview. No bs, straight into details and insights, unlike most CEOs today who bs to sell
100%. Very overlooked in that regard

Right!
Would like to see his reaction now on the QC issues with the new power pro. Warranty clams have gone up

I have two Pro Power Elongated paddles, one weighs 8.0 oz and the other weighs 8.4 oz. Seems like a quality control issue.

They have pros. Both past and present: Chris Haworth, Joey Farias, Jeff Warnick, Mario Barrientos, Wyatt Stone, etc.

Joola & Selkirk will team up with the top players to get his paddle banned. Guaranteed
So true . Ben will find some esoteric test never used.. this will be the big test on how crooked the PPA is if it does get banned
Which is silly because it's all simple plastic with thin sheets glued on top. If you have a 3D printer you can make a paddle
