Is the 1996 Grand Sport a Corvette you should BUY?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2024
- The first production Corvette Grand Sport was a way for Chevrolet to commemorate the original 1963 Grand Sport race cars. Under the hood of this 1996 C4 Corvette is a 5.7L V8 pumping out 330HP & mated to a ZF 6-speed manual gearbox. The 1996 Grand Sport was limited to just 1,000 units and this convertible example is 1 or just 190 that were built. On the outside you will find a unique paint job, wheels, and badging. On the inside a fully optioned interior, and Bose premium sound system. Is the Corvette Grand Sport an underrated sports car?

Grand turismo 3, I remember this car, was my childhood dream to drive one
Literally exactly what I wrote haha Gran Turismo 3 A Spec was such a great game!!... good times good times. But once I had the F1 car I don’t think I really ever used anything else it was like cheating using it lol
I know how you feel!
@@RMG791 Very cool!
@@RaitisRides nice video mate also i love Corvette C6 Grand Sport they are so nice also how much they be buddy
LOL, me too, man. I used to race my Buddy who used the Viper RT/10. We would only upgrade the tires and then race 'till like 4 am lol.
Now, I have a 1996 LT4 (Same engine and Trans) in Comp Yellow with 11,000 miles on it that I adore.
The C4 had the most beautiful engine bay with the clamshell hood.
@Jeff Spicolli had when it came out. It still has it !!!!!
Once a teacher always a teacher. Joe is giving us all the historical details of these cars, it's half the fun. Keep going 💪Joe and your better half 🏁
Thanks for saying that and letting us share it with you!
Loved racing with this car in Gran Turismo 3!!! Classic
Very cool man!
I’m missing the car shows. This was a great video! I love being a Corvette owner. Thanks for the video. Appreciate all the energy and hard work you guys do!
I’m so glad we can bring it to you!
I absolutely love your coverage of classic cars. Extremely detailed! Thank you
Thank you for letting me share it with you!
I was trying to save up to get the GS Coupe back in the day. I wanted that extra 30hp... lol. Since I wasn’t patient enough I settled for a 95 6spd Coupe. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
That’s an awesome story! I’m so glad that o could bring it to you!
The door panels had hidden cubbies, the arm rests were hinged, not sure when this was introduced but my 95 ZF6 coupe has them also.
This car was a dream car as a child, especially since I could test drive it on Gran Turismo!!
I know how you geel!
Love this video. I owned a 1988 Corvette Z-51 and a 1991 Corvette ZR-1. They may be dated by today's standards of sports cars, but man were they fun to drive. That Grand Sport looks to be in great shape. Thanks for the Vlog Joe!
I am so glad that you enjoyed this one Terry. Do you miss your C4 Corvettes.
@@RaitisRides I do miss them, but it was becoming very hard to pass emissions in CA. I had long tube headers and cat deletes on my ZR-1. Every two years I would have to put cats on. I also had a piggyback chip form Haibeck automotive that I had to put on the ECM to retard timing and even with that it would barely pass smog. I sold it to a guy in IL where smog was not an issue and bought my 2011 CTS-V. I do want a C8 Z06 if they manufacture them.
We’ve come a long way Joe. It must be fun being at the mecum auto auctions. I was watching earlier today. They had this beautiful restored red mustang. The inside was modernized. It went for around $237k. They had a red Ford GT that went for $900k. It is lots of fun to watch. Enjoy!!! 👍
Excellent review!!! Keep bringing the knowledge.
Thanks Louis!
One of my top cars in Gran Turismo 1,2, and 3
Great revue Joe,
Just as a side note the 1996 corvette has 2 storage compartments . One under each door arm rest. Its hinged and you just tilt it up. I know because I own a 1996 C4. Keep up the great reviews and history of these american icons.
Thanks for that great info Frank!
Childhood memories playing grand turismo.
Big time!
I’ve seen a few of these over the years but never a convertible. This one looks brand new! Is it from the private collection of Corvettes being auctioned there? Thanks for sharing it Joe! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
I am so glad that I could bring this one to you. Nope, it is not from a private collection.
Ty joe your a encyclopedia of corvette knowledge
I really appreciate you letting me share my Corvette Passion with you!

1 of 190 examples !! WOW!! I saw a convertible one today here in San Diego. That’s why I looked up this video.
Yeeeeeeeeeessssssss maaaaaaaan!!!! Chevrolet nailed this one when they made it and blessed it with that powertrain and....POP-UP UP AND DOWN HEADLIIIIIIIIIGHTS!!!! Grand Sport was the sweet spot!!!! Bringing it old school!
Joe sure knows his C4’s! I love it.
These were rare to see in the 90's. Great review of classic Vette!
Thanks Bobby!
I had an 85 and remember seeing that damn "check engine" light on that screen. I also remember being too broke to fix it! I think it was the MAF. The 85 made me happy. Felt like so much more power than it's rating. I just don't remember my door sill being that high. Of course I was moving like a 65 year old either!
Thanks for sharing that story! I remember those days!
Jesus Raiti your output lately is intense! Lovin it 👌🏼😍😍 what a rare gem 💎👌🏼😎
Thanks for letting me my passion with you! I appreciate your awesome support!
I have mine since new 1996 red interior coupe still fun to drive. Best 1/4 miles 13.01 never could get to 12.xx top speed 163 mph. Options Borla exhaust. Use to corner it so hard I forced rear tires into plastic fender liners. Half moons rubbed into plastic fenders. Pulled into a store one day came out had no reverse. It was in the dealer for 6 weeks waiting for parts. Use to power shift it at times. Had bird cage chassis that's why door sill is high. Never in an accident but a raccoon damaged car by chewing it. I got the very last c4 nose gm had in it's possession. Raccoon chewed through the AC line at a joint where it's thickest.
You should come to corvette museum.
I want to very badly!
I picked up a 1996 Corvette in 2012 at 21 years old; it also has the LT4 since all 6MT cars in '96 are LT4-equipped. Daily-drove that car until I got into a 1990 ZR-1 a couple years later. I will say that I think the LT4 feels lighter on its feet and no less quick, but the way the LT5 in the ZR-1 revs with that sudden burst of power when the secondary intakes open is next-level.
A beautiful car and the most collectible Corvette of the 90s "Grand Turismo" generation...
I am not sure a C4 is a GT.
I had good memories with this car in Gran Turismo 3 😃
Same here
Nice man!
@@edwardvalivonis23 It seems like a popular choice!
@@RaitisRides Joe is a type of a guy to play Gran Turismo on UA-cam
Beautiful car. Wonder how much it went for at auction.
I want to find out!
im still a corvette lover but i miss the pop up lights just said CORVETTE TO ME MISS MY 2000 MILLY! YELLOW C5
I know how you feel Elvis!
Great review. My brother has a C7 GS. White with red leather and removable hardtop. Beautiful car.
Your brother has great taste!
Great coverage, love this car. I have a lot of love for C5 Corvette, any of them, but especially this one.
I am so glad that you are digging this one.
Finally got around to watching this. They need to put you on History Channel or Speed TV. Joe you are a treasure trove of information. I had no idea, you could go to Mecum and not have to bid.
that Corvette reminds me of the old Gran Turismo days
Big time!
Great review of far too often overlooked performer! Appreciate it!
Thanks Darren! I am so glad that you enjoyed it.
A buddy of mine back in the late 90s, had this GS, black interior, but non convert. He bought it new, parked it outside, & drove it as a daily.. He picked me up once, & we drove to Brooklyn, NY, hitting pot hole after pothole (I was hurting/cringing more than the car😬!!) He drove it like he stole it, or borrowed it, & didn't give a sh$t, LOL!! Super fast, handled on rails.. He told me the car was hit that winter.. so he replaced the black stock rims, with oem vette chrome ones :(
Hey Joe actually the 1994-1996 DO have door pockets I keep my registration and insurance card in mine but you could probably jam a Twinkie in there too..
Also the LT4 has a 8,000 rpm tach NOT 6,500
i’m always new to the videos! i have post notifications on! ❤️
Thanks for letting me share this one.
_Yes, the '96 C4 fits like a glove! Another cool thing about the 1996 Corvette Grand Sport is the vin numbers are unique to this model._
So growing up in the bay area in California when I was in high school back in 97 every morning I go to high school and I see this older lady drive one of these it was a hard top not a convertible but boy I love the color in those rims on that body style in that year! Most every other day I would see her driving it through town!
There was a professor at a college near me that would drive his gran sport in every day. Would even drive it in the snow!!!
I miss the cars of the 80s and 90s . I know they were kinda crappy but I grew up with them . great review as always.
Great vid I have a 96 LT4! One correction the doors actually do have pockets. If you lift up the cover on the arm rests on the door you can put stuff in it! 😂
Love the corvette history 👍
Beautiful Corvette. Definitely a classic.
I am so glad that you like this one Michael!
@@RaitisRides C4 is my childhood. That generation of Corvette had the viper on its tail. And I think the ZR1 was the first to hit 200mph. Crazy how Lotus was involved with the ZR1. But on the other hand that Grand Sport you just showed is a beauty.
17? I was 29 when I got my 85. That 230hp seemed fast...
I know right! It was a special situation . Here you go:
ua-cam.com/video/xR4GnZ9DnEo/v-deo.html
They didn’t have a lot of horsepower, but they had 330 pound feet of torque...that’s why it felt fast.
If I could get it with automatic transmission rather than manual, I would totally buy a 1996 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport. I have always admired flashy cars like the Corvette C4. Especially when it's a convertible. I love feeling the wind blowing through my hair while I'm driving
Hey Mr. Raiti - Should I pull the trigger on a c7 corvette stingway (non z51 package) or wait for everything going on to blow over and try to get a c8 on a year? Would you recommend a different sports car if I'm not interested in racing?
I would say go for the C7 now and down the road you can always get the C8. No other car does what the Corvette can at its price point.
Man... It gives me the Gran Turismo 2 vibes. I miss the game and the C4 Corvette 👌🏻 I'm glad the owner keep it stock makes it rarer than other Vettes
Just a little bit of history going on there... 👍
Thanks my friend for letting me share!
Corvette is the only favorite sport cars. For me.💘💘🤘🤘🤘👍👍😘 thank you Joe.
I am so glad that you are digging this one.
I had a 1985 Corvette, Dark Bronze/Light Bronze combo sadly it spent alot of the time at the dealer replacing the plastic power window chains and the Bose Stereo. Still wouldn't trade the experience for any other car at that time.
Love the Grand Sport!
You have great taste Peter!
Mine! Lol, I wish. Nice find, guys!
I know how you feel!
Yeah ,they are hard to find for decent money ,one/thousand made. So I did find a lo mile 96 with the same drive train. They made a bit over 6000 of those. My car is white, they made 504.Those mirror gap spacers are to cut down on open cabin noise above 70 mph. LT4 cars have an 8k tach while LT1cars had 6k. Fun to drive, she is quite peppy.
I did not know that the lt4 Corvette had a 8k RPM tach no wonder they was so hyped and talked about in the 90s
I have been wanting one of these for a few year now. That colour spec too!
Thanks for letting me bring it to you!
Hello Joe how are 3how is your weekend the 2021 Kia Sportage hope you get can get a hold of one of those SUVS great video of this classic Corvette
I feel like the 92-96 C4 with the 300hp LT1 has the perfect balance of power to weight ratio which makes so much easier to drive aggressively at the limit….
So, the plaque most of these got say "Mobile 1". However, in 96 only the first half or so of the cars got them. Mine has one up there, my buddy's car doesn't, both are 1996 Vettes.
These 96 LT-4s are sweetheart cars and could only be had with a 6 Speed. As a matter of fact, ALL 1996 6-Speed cars (Not just the Grand Sport models) had the LT-4 and ALL LT-1 cars were autos. And all LT-4s were pretty under rated from the factory.
Mine Dynos at 332 at the wheels bone stock, so it's a bit north of (360 or so) at the crank.
There are door pockets, but they are hidden under the arm rests, you have to flip the armrest to get to them.
Thanks for that great info from your ownership Michael! You are a lucky man to have one.
@@RaitisRides Thanks for the great vid on these under appreciated cars. Just know that you are ruining the market for those "still in the hunt" by making this great content! lol
Also, my buddy called me out when he read this earlier as I "mistyped" earlier. To clarify the highest number my car ever dynoed was 322 at the rear wheel and the lowest was 318 and change. But still well north of the claimed 330 at the crank.
I remember driving this grand sport in gran turismo back in the PlayStation 1 days
Thumbs up for this awesome review 👍
You are so very welcome!
bad ass car joe! tell lori where is she taking me for valentines day? lol

Of course this is a screaming buy. But an even better deal with even better performance (tho slightly because of lighter weight) is the drop dead gorgeous Sebring Silver Collector Ed with LT4 edition. About the same number of units made as well for the Coupe. Great deal, great car and great 1-yr only engine.
Looks fresh n clean.

The GS has always been my favorite Corvette, no matter the generation. Just sad there isn't a C8 GS.

@@RaitisRides Thanks
1996 Corvette Grand Sport was a very limited production car and will be highly collectible. It also moves out really quickly for a car of that era. C4 Vettes typically have no value but this car is a definite exception to the rule.
