The foam backing behind the fabric on the door trim panels fails and turns to mush. Here I am swapping the door inserts on my Jetta with MK5 Gold GTI vinyl inserts.
Nice video, I have just done this on my Golf Mk5 GTi. Literally the best thing I have done to my car so far. Looks so much better. And because of this video the process is quite simple, but very affective.
Great result. Man I really wish VW would have thought through these door cards. This is overly complex for replacing something that is going to get worn out.
Hi Pete, do you have a lot of salvaged Mk5 GTI 4 doors there in Australia? If so, could you send the 4 door panel inserts to California? Let me know the total cost.
It’s a butane gas powered soldering iron with a 6mm chisel tip. Weller PSI100k, but you could use almost any soldering iron. The higher the wattage the better.

Well thank you for your comment. I’m so glad it helped you.

Use a pressure washer to clean the glue off. Just make sure to take off the electronics like the speaker and door switch. Works amazing!
Nice tip. Thank you.
Awesome video man! My door trim is sagging something fierce right now 😊

Wow seems like a hard way of doing it? Can peel back fabric clean and reapply spray glue should fix?
Unfortunately, because of the construction design this is not possible.
What non spray adhesive is best if you want to re glue the cloth. Thanks
Unfortunately the problem is that the thin foam backing disintegrates. This leaves a crumbling mess that no glue will adhere to.
Hi Pete, great video! I'm looking to replace the door card segments on my 07 Jetta - will any 07 Golf GTI work?
As long as it’s a 4 door I would think they should fit fine.
did you get the replacement card from a wrecker? i would imagine they are expensive
I bought front and rear GTI seats and 4 door trims for $200 from a private seller on Gumtree.
Hello, good job! was wondering which device you're using to wield plastic? Where can you find it pls. Thanks!

What year was this Golf car .
Like I need to do this on my 2008 Jetta , does that mean golf car need to be 2008 as well ?
I can’t be certain but I would think any Mk5 Golf should be compatible.
It was your dogs wasn't it??
