The best way to describe Band Maid (Imo) is they are the real deal, the complete package. They write nearly all of their own music: lead guitarist Kanami writes the music, harmony guitarisr/having vocalist Miku writes the lyrics. Misa, the bassist had a side range of techniques in her repertoire including using a pick, finger style, and slapping. Her choices are based on the style of song, and the tone of her bass. Akane, the drummer, is the kind of drummer you can use to calibrate an atomic clock. Jimmy Page heard her in Tokyo in 2016 and was so impressed that he went backstage after the show to meet her. And Saiki's voice is simply amazing, she has three registers I've heard, and diaphragm support the separate her from many singers. Since you're a bassist you'll obviously fall in love with MISA but you'll also quickly fall in love with Akane on the drums. Those two are such a killer rhythm section. Chops for days and ideas for miles.
You need to watch them play live, they are even better - Domination, Moratorium, Onset, Play, Real Existence... Band Maid is the best rock band on the planet, with the best rhythm section. As a bassist, you'll quickly learn to appreciate Misa and Akane's skills. Misa often switches between picking, slapping, and finger style in the same song. Kanami is an incredible guitarist, and an even better composer. Miku is the lyricist and rhythm guitar player, only picked up the guitar when the band started. Saiki is incredible, and has been unleashed after some polyp surgery.

I can recall only one glamorous rock star bassist: Flea. The other rock stars like Paul McCartney, Suzi Quatro, Lemmy, Geddy Lee are more famous like front man/woman singers + bass players.

MISA plays with a pick, and plucks too. In fact in the track Onset (a live instrumental, on their channel) she does both...in the middle of the same solo. She does a bit of slapping from time to time for good measure. There are better bass players than MISA. There are better guitarists than Kanami. There are better drummers than Akane. What you'll struggle to find is a band who have all three at their level.

The bassist MISA frequently switches between picking and slapping mid song. If you watch their live stuff you can see her doing it. She frequently gets solos in songs and in general she doesn't play a standard bass role. She almost plays a lead bass role. You'll see her constantly moving up and down the neck.
The bass player's name is Misa. She is called the barefoot assassin. She plays barefoot and drinks whiskey and will melt your face with her bass. In real existence she slaps and plays with a pick. she palms it when she slaps. You don't know how good she is yet because this song isn't bass heavy

Best Hard rock band on the Planet, no exceptions. They can play anything from soft Rock, through Jazz and funk Rock, traditional blues rock, and metal. They make ridiculously complex music, I don't think they've ever played a song where the second verse didn't have some form of variation, rarely stick to the usual western formula of verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus to fade. They have legitimately 30 tracks that are better than anything the US has produced in 20 years. MISA often switches from pick to slap mid solo. I see a lot of people have written a lot about them. I used to work as a session bassist for about 10 year. The first time I heard the bassist, Misa, I was mindblown. I honestly can't think of very many that are at her level playing this kind of music. There are a lot of bassists that would use half of what she does in this song as a solo. She does that without it getting chaotic or show offy. Would love to hear you do a video of this! I'm glad you gave Saiki, the singer, a lot of love. She's sometimes get a bit forgotten because people tend to get so blown away by the musicians. You really should check out their live stuff. I'd recommend 'Domination' as a good start!
Misa slaps, strums, picks, and will grasp her pick between middle and index when not picking. She switches between styles frequently. Yes, watch more Band-Maid, all their songs are good. They do mostly hard rock and they do it very well. But watch out for their slow, sad songs, on which the two vocalists really shine. "About Us" and "Page" come to mind. "Daydreaming" is another one.
Can't believe I forgot to say to check out their live instrumental, Onset. I call it the closer. If you are not a fan after seeing that, you never will be!

If someone would have told me 10 years ago that one of my favorite bands would be 5 Japanese women in maid outfits I would have laughed in their face. Yet, here we are. They are special. Enjoy the journey, I think you'll fall in love with them pretty quickly. Misa (the bassist) is a Tokyo School of Music grad (as is the drummer Akane) so... :-)
Kanami mentioned in a recent interview that covid19 lockdowns has turned her into a "riff machine". Akane, Misa as well, also mentioned they took this period as a unique opportunity to work on their current "lackings" in drums and bass. Miku Kobato spoke about how this forced idle times without concerts has given her the opportunity to write many songs lyrics. Saiki did not say much, but all the fans can hear her significant vocal improvement over the last year. The whole band worked at improving their musical cohesion. So this albuml is truly excellent. I must admit I was slightly concerned following the issue of Conqueror in which I saw a transition album, hoping our beloved ladies were not loosing their incredible creativity momemtum. I am fully reassured now and even thinking a better Band-Maid is just coming ahead.
I understand what you’re saying and I’m not disagreeing but I do think the explorations on Conqueror, the softer elements and more expansive soundscapes, despite maybe a few less exciting tunes, is exactly the thing that makes a band better and better. Rush was famous for taking that type of approach, one exploratory album (Permanent Waves) followed by a more cohesive, refined album (Moving Pictures) that raised their overall level in songwriting, composing, arrangement, etc. I hope Band Maid keeps following that approach and we get a more exploratory album after the refinements of Unseen World. I think it’ll serve them well in the long run, imho. 🤷🏻♂️🤘🏼🎸

As a musician of 56 plus years I have been following Band-Maid since 2014 and I believe they are the most talented women on the planet IMO. Miku Kobato the rhythm guitar player is the lyricist and founder of the band they call her (pigeon). The lead guitarist is the writer and composer of 95 percent of their music. MISA the bass player and Akane the drummer both went to the same prestigious music school together. Saiki the lead vocals was added when Miku thought her voice wasn't strong enough for the lead vocals. I'm going to paste a bio from PRS guitars below from them about Kanami Tono, she is incredible. Born in a town near Yokohama, Japan, Kanami began playing piano at the age of 3. Though she continued her keyboard lessons for more than 20 years, it wasn’t until she saw a female guitarist that she found her calling. Under the tutelage of this inspiration, she was a quick learner and found herself pursuing various genres: hard rock, latin rock, funk, fusion. Upon entering college, feeling that finding band members who all had the same skill level and same musical direction would be challenging, she found herself performing solo gigs. It was about this time that the videos she had posted to UA-cam caught Miku (“Kobato”, Band-Maid founder)’s eye. She would get to play lead and wouldn’t have to sing, just the perfect criteria for Kanami. Thus, Band-Maid was born. Her favorite guitarists include Carlos Santana and Larry Carlton. She credits Carlos for her own use of pentatonic scales in her lead solos.

The bassist, Misa, is shy and mostly silent in band interviews, but mention Paz Lenchantin and there's no stopping her. B-M has an amazing catalogue of instant hits and slow burners that grow overtime and then challenge for the top spots. Bad or boring songs? Not heard one yet. 20+ songs in my top 10. Having Manners as your first foray in Band-Maid is basically being spoiled, each members get to really shine while at the same time managed to find equilibrium to still deliver the song as a whole, it's really one of the heights of their music -making as well as performing- abilities.

The Bass player is called Misa aka 'The Silent Assasin' to Band Maid Fans as she goes barefoot, speaks little in interviews and kills on the Bass. I don't know which song of Band Maids it was, but in an interview the band were so concerned about Misa's bleeding fingers as she was learning to slap bass her part that they wanted her to stop - she said no.

Now, if you love bass lines and bass artists you have found the PERFECT band. MISA, the basssist (yes, her name is stylized in all caps), lists Paz from Smashing Pumpkins as her influence. She is arguably THE BEST BASSIST currently playing. I would recommend going back to the beginning to get a good feel for their evolution. Start with Thrill and move on from there. Being a little anxious in front of crowds, Misa (bass) has some beer and whiskey atop of her Orange head that she drinks from during live gigs. It's kind of her trademark. If you are going to fully engage in a Misa cover try doing so while having some "spirits" to see how incredible she is. The best way to describe Band Maid (Imo) is they are the real deal, the complete package. They write nearly all of their own music: lead guitarist Kanami writes the music, harmony guitarisr/having vocalist Miku writes the lyrics. Misa, the bassist had a side range of techniques in her repertoire including using a pick, finger style, and slapping. Her choices are based on the style of song, and the tone of her bass. Akane, the drummer, is the kind of drummer you can use to calibrate an atomic clock. Jimmy Page heard her in Tokyo in 2016 and was so impressed that he went backstage after the show to meet her. And Saiki's voice is simply amazing, she has three registers I've heard, and diaphragm support the separate her from many singers.

You need to watch them play live, they are even better - Domination, Moratorium, Onset, Play, Real Existence... Band Maid is the best rock band on the planet, with the best rhythm section. As a bassist, you'll quickly learn to appreciate Misa and Akane's skills. Misa often switches between picking, slapping, and finger style in the same song. Kanami is an incredible guitarist, and an even better composer. Miku is the lyricist and rhythm guitar player, only picked up the guitar when the band started. Saiki is incredible, and has been unleashed after some polyp surgery.

And Misa can tuck the pick between her fingers in a millisecond, fingerpick, and bring it back out just as quickly.

Some random infos: 1/ Misa doesn't only plays with a pick - it depends on the song, she's great at slapping too and plays fingerstyle on some others song (ballads usually) 2/ they're a live band - and their songs are usually even better live 3/ their musical range is wide - they consider themselves a "hard rocking band" rather than a hard rock band 4/ they compose and write their music since they started recording full albums (4) 5/ they're not only amazing musicians - they're extremely entertaining and funny too 6/it's always such a pleasure to watch musicians discovering them, great reaction!

Relentless live band due to having played basically anywhere they could plug in they also tend to add extra parts to the songs live , The costumes might have got their foot in the door but they have earned what they have gotten the old fashioned way, Worked hard, Toured hard, and constantly look to improve.

MISA plays with a pick, and plucks too. In fact in the track Onset (a live instrumental, on their channel) she does both...in the middle of the same solo. She does a bit of slapping from time to time for good measure. There are better bass players than MISA. There are better guitarists than Kanami. There are better drummers than Akane. What you'll struggle to find is a band who have all three at their level.

Welcome to the best hard rock band in the world. They will rock your world and steal your heart - and they deserve SO much more recognition, so thank you for reacting to them! Every one of these ladies is at a high level skill-wise, and their songwriting ability is just ridiculous, which you'll find out when you try to find a bad song that they did - and you can't even find one that's less than great.
The bassist MISA frequently switches between picking and slapping mid song. If you watch their live stuff you can see her doing it. She frequently gets solos in songs and in general she doesn't play a standard bass role. She almost plays a lead bass role. You'll see her constantly moving up and down the neck.
The only musicians that I can listen all day for 6 months straight.

Best Hard rock band on the Planet, no exceptions. They can play anything from soft Rock, through Jazz and funk Rock, traditional blues rock, and metal.
They make ridiculously complex music, I don't think they've ever played a song where the second verse didn't have some form of variation, rarely stick to the usual western formula of verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus to fade. They have legitimately 30 tracks that are better than anything the US has produced in 20 years.
MISA often switches from pick to slap mid solo.
Other really good Japanese bands in no particular order: Lovebites, Aldious, Ningen Isu, Maximum the hormone, Fern Planet, Trident and Babymetal (if you are into that sort of thing).

I see a lot of people have written a lot about them. I used to work as a session bassist for about 10 year. The first time I heard the bassist, Misa, I was mindblown. I honestly can't think of very many that are at her level playing this kind of music. There are a lot of bassists that would use half of what she does in this song as a solo. She does that without it getting chaotic or show offy. Would love to hear you do a video of this! I'm glad you gave Saiki, the singer, a lot of love. She's sometimes get a bit forgotten because people tend to get so blown away by the musicians. You really should check out their live stuff. I'd recommend 'Domination' as a good start!

Misa slaps, strums, picks, and will grasp her pick between middle and index when not picking. She switches between styles frequently. Yes, watch more Band-Maid, all their songs are good.
They do mostly hard rock and they do it very well. But watch out for their slow, sad songs, on which the two vocalists really shine. "About Us" and "Page" come to mind. "Daydreaming" is another one.
Can't believe I forgot to say to check out their live instrumental, Onset. I call it the closer. If you are not a fan after seeing that, you never will be!

If someone would have told me 10 years ago that one of my favorite bands would be 5 Japanese women in maid outfits I would have laughed in their face. Yet, here we are. They are special. Enjoy the journey, I think you'll fall in love with them pretty quickly. Misa (the bassist) is a Tokyo School of Music grad (as is the drummer Akane) so... :-)
Kanami mentioned in a recent interview that covid19 lockdowns has turned her into a "riff machine". Akane, Misa as well, also mentioned they took this period as a unique opportunity to work on their current "lackings" in drums and bass. Miku Kobato spoke about how this forced idle times without concerts has given her the opportunity to write many songs lyrics. Saiki did not say much, but all the fans can hear her significant vocal improvement over the last year. The whole band worked at improving their musical cohesion. So this albuml is truly excellent. I must admit I was slightly concerned following the issue of Conqueror in which I saw a transition album, hoping our beloved ladies were not loosing their incredible creativity momemtum. I am fully reassured now and even thinking a better Band-Maid is just coming ahead.
I understand what you’re saying and I’m not disagreeing but I do think the explorations on Conqueror, the softer elements and more expansive soundscapes, despite maybe a few less exciting tunes, is exactly the thing that makes a band better and better. Rush was famous for taking that type of approach, one exploratory album (Permanent Waves) followed by a more cohesive, refined album (Moving Pictures) that raised their overall level in songwriting, composing, arrangement, etc. I hope Band Maid keeps following that approach and we get a more exploratory album after the refinements of Unseen World. I think it’ll serve them well in the long run, imho. 🤷🏻♂️🤘🏼🎸

As a musician of 56 plus years I have been following Band-Maid since 2014 and I believe they are the most talented women on the planet IMO. Miku Kobato the rhythm guitar player is the lyricist and founder of the band they call her (pigeon). The lead guitarist is the writer and composer of 95 percent of their music. MISA the bass player and Akane the drummer both went to the same prestigious music school together. Saiki the lead vocals was added when Miku thought her voice wasn't strong enough for the lead vocals. I'm going to paste a bio from PRS guitars below from them about Kanami Tono, she is incredible.
Born in a town near Yokohama, Japan, Kanami began playing piano at the age of 3. Though she continued her keyboard lessons for more than 20 years, it wasn’t until she saw a female guitarist that she found her calling. Under the tutelage of this inspiration, she was a quick learner and found herself pursuing various genres: hard rock, latin rock, funk, fusion. Upon entering college, feeling that finding band members who all had the same skill level and same musical direction would be challenging, she found herself performing solo gigs.
It was about this time that the videos she had posted to UA-cam caught Miku (“Kobato”, Band-Maid founder)’s eye. She would get to play lead and wouldn’t have to sing, just the perfect criteria for Kanami. Thus, Band-Maid was born.
Her favorite guitarists include Carlos Santana and Larry Carlton. She credits Carlos for her own use of pentatonic scales in her lead solos.

The bassist, Misa, is shy and mostly silent in band interviews, but mention Paz Lenchantin and there's no stopping her. B-M has an amazing catalogue of instant hits and slow burners that grow overtime and then challenge for the top spots. Bad or boring songs? Not heard one yet. 20+ songs in my top 10. And the new album hasn't arrived yet!

Having Manners as your first foray in Band-Maid is basically being spoiled, each members get to really shine while at the same time managed to find equilibrium to still deliver the song as a whole, it's really one of the heights of their music -making as well as performing- abilities.

A solo concert at Nippon Budokan has the same meaning as a solo concert at Madison Square Garden in the United States in Japan.
Raised by the company, the company provides songs, the company trains, the company promotes, the company collaborates with each media, many companies co-sponsor, many concerts at the large capacity Nippon Budokan or some Arena There are several groups that do. BABY-METAL is one of them.
For them, it's just a big concert.

At BAND-MAID, the high ability of CALL & RESPONCE, which has been cultivated by continuing to play at a very close distance to the audience in a small live house, becomes an excellent performance and creates a wonderful space. And the live take of BAND-MAID where it is recorded is really excellent.
In the studio take, the song is playful and gives a slightly excessive impression, but in the live, it is tight and clear, the members are tense with each other's techniques, yet relaxed, and it is wonderful to wrap the audience with happiness It creates a sound space.
I also think BAND-MAID is currently the best live band.

The Bass player is called Misa aka 'The Silent Assasin' to Band Maid Fans as she goes barefoot, speaks little in interviews and kills on the Bass. I don't know which song of Band Maids it was, but in an interview the band were so concerned about Misa's bleeding fingers as she was learning to slap bass her part that they wanted her to stop - she said no.

Now, if you love bass lines and bass artists you have found the PERFECT band. MISA, the basssist (yes, her name is stylized in all caps), lists Paz from Smashing Pumpkins as her influence. She is arguably THE BEST BASSIST currently playing. I would recommend going back to the beginning to get a good feel for their evolution. Start with Thrill and move on from there.
Now, if you really do love good bass lines, the new album "Unseen World" is just a treasure trove of unreal bass riffs AND SOLOS from MISA this time. It is utterly mindblowoingfacemelting awesomeness!

Being a little anxious in front of crowds, Misa (bass) has some beer and whiskey atop of her Orange head that she drinks from during live gigs. It's kind of her trademark. If you are going to fully engage in a Misa cover try doing so while having some "spirits" to see how incredible she is. In some interviews, she did say that in her early years she would get drunk on occasion on stage but not with Band Maid, Po!. Great reaction (Im a fan of your reaction and you're "sick." I put you up there with Chase, Champ and Tank, and, of course, Dicodec.) and looking forward to watching your cover. Try doing the Misa cover on track "No God" from their new album, "Unseen World," which also includes "Manners." She's called the Silent Assassin. Plays in her bare feet, drinks whiskey on stage. Watch live Onset, not the MV, for an instrumental. They're just too good. They're better live than studio if you're concerned. This song is just one facet of their abilities and Kanami, the GTR, writes most of the music and Miku, Rhythm, writes the lyrics.
