Well you've heard two completely different songs, and it doesn't stop there. All of their material is good, and don't even try to categorize them. Genre's mean nothing to this band and that is as it should be. I'd stick with them a bit - recommend Domination Live from their 2020 show, the MV version of the first song you listed to (Manners), Warning MV from their new album, and going back in time some good old hard rock awesomeness in Real Existence Live version. And since they don't make bad songs, I also recommend everything else that everybody here recommends - because they're automatically right. Lastly - this band is magic and they are addictive. The more you listen to them the more you are sucked into the Black Hole that is Band-Maid.

They did the perfect video for beginners that want to know what Band-Maid is. THIS is Band-Maid, they'll do, add and mix any genres and it will be an awesome song every time. The only bad thing about these last lives is that they don't have a crowd due to the virus. For that I'll recommend Domination live and Freedom live. Also a

Manners. great rock groove....one of my favorites. ......Now go watch the "Manners" music video....Miku's backing vocals were spot on for this streaming concert. The "Maidiacs" are many.....
Welcome to the world of Band Maid and indeed, the massive following.
The songs are primarily written by the lead guitar player Kanami and lyrics by the band founder, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist, Miku. When Kanami was writing the song she asked Akane (the drummer) how fast she could play. Akane replied "around 195-200 BPM" so Kanami wrote it at 220 BPM as a challenge. They played this as song 21 of 22 and still managed to kill this high-speed monster of a song.
While these were performed well, session/online concerts (thanks a lot covid) just can not compare to a real "Live" performances with their Fans!! That added energy always puts them way over the TOP!! Can't wait till real touring resumes!!

Good choice going with a two-fer! Really it would take a half-dozen songs to give an idea of the range of places they go stylistically - and not just as B-sides like a lot of bands do when stepping outside their usual template.
As others said, spot-on observation on the outfits; they're (almost) as interesting, cool, and fun off-stage as when they're playing.
For the full BAND-MAID experience, watch them playing in front of a real live audience, in the Before Times. I recommend Domination, recorded 14 February 2020. Then, Freedom and Onset from the same concert.
My thoughts exactly. These live online performances are great, but lacks the energy of the crowd that the ladies feed off of.
And "Play" from the same show!
The greatest part about this video is these songs are nothing indicative of their sound because it's almost never the same as the last song (which from the 7 albums released are all incredible).

Enjoyed your reaction! Great take on their individuality in their clothes; not a uniform but an expression of their personality. And together they are fantastic. Definitely the best all female band I’ve ever seen and proof that it really doesn’t make a bit of difference what someone’s sex/gender is - when you put in the work, have some natural talent and find the right people - greatness is possible - and this band achieves greatness nearly all the time. Love them.

Yeah, the individualized maid costumes is Kiss-like. Band-Maid is not only extremely musically-talented, but they don't hold back with their production and theatrics.

I used to be, or am I still ?, a big fan of Little Feat, an American rock band active in ’70’s. One of my favorites from them is “Spanish Moon,” and the intro of “Manners” reminds me of that from Misa’s and Akane’s solos at the opening, which is nasty but cool!

I have to say Kanami, although she has guitarists she admires, doe's not play like anyone else I have ever seen. Some say she isn't as "technical" as some other guitarists. But how she plays always fits the song and adds just what the song needs. I have seen her play very technical pieces on her own so to say she isn't a technical player isn't correct. She has her own style that is unique and quite frankly incredible. Our little genius.

With some rock bands it's perhaps all about the shredding...and any old song will do. This band have been busy making a lot of great songs, with wide variety...they won't be pigeon-holed (Po!). Any shredding is in respect and service to the song...without excess. Great quality. You'll have had an eff-ton of great suggestions, especially for live reactions...can't go wrong. For your own pleasure check out the nice MV for 'Manners' as the studio mix is great and I really love the second verse guitar 'chopping' that was much less obvious here. Change-ups and unpredictability are their trademark...never boring. Enjoy.

The first song Manners is about their journey as a band, including the struggle to be understood and develop their creativity in the heavier direction they wanted. Their management and labels were sometimes helpful and sometimes frustrating in this regard. Early tunes were composed by people supplied by management and tended toward pop rock sound. They gave them some kick as they could. Miku was learning rhythm guitar on the job.
Miku (second guitar/second vocalist, red rose on her headgear, playing Zemaitis) managed to get the chance to contribute lyrics first. Kanami (first guitarist, white headgear with no rose, playing PRS) had a longer, harder road to be allowed to compose. She kept submitting demos to management and being turned down, and nearly gave up completely except for Saiki's encouragement (Saiki - lead singer, blue rose on headgear). Once they had an all Band-Maid tune on an album (Alone, on Brand New Maid album) and it did well, the dam broke and very soon it was all their own material. They have put out about an album a year, plus some standalone singles, and not a stinker on any.
My #1 band for the six years or so since I heard my first video, Choose Me.
The song Freedom is one of their early ones, composed by an outside composer but with lyrics by Miku, and one they enjoy playing live and keep adding different intros to and changing things up to keep it interesting. The performance widely consider the best is their live at Shibuya on February 14, 2020. I believe they still have that one up on their official channel. Fun tune celebrating the personal freedom that comes from insisting on it and going your own way whether anyone follows or not.

As to learning to play a guitar, Miku on rhythm guitar started learning the guitar in 2013. They decided they needed a fuller sound, Miku said she would be the rhythm guitarist with Kanami as her teacher. Miku also founded the band, created the Maid concept and designs the costumes. She is also the primary Lyricist. They have regularly toured Great Britain for at least the past 6 years, usually to sellouts.
Checked your channel, you still have Mary's Blood, Aldious, Bridear, Doll $ Boxx, for a little history Show Ya, and of Course the most popular and famous Babymetal!!

Yes, Band-Maid is another excellent Japanese all-female rock band. The other excellent Japanese all-female band I like is Nemophila, but there are more excellent Japanese bands like Galneryus, Jupiter, Versailles, Wagakki Band, D_Drive, Asterism, Unlucky Morpheus, Quadratum, Ningen Isu, Aldious, Fate gear, etc. My favorite is Lovebites. I really recommend Asterism and D_Drive. Japan is saving rock.
