- Welcome to part 1 of 5 videos where I overhaul the rear roof of my house. In this video I remove old slates, clean the roof, insulate the roof, replace fascia, add fascia vents, felt support trays, breathable membrane and battens. This roof isn't part of my loft conversion series but was the last roof section on my house to be overhauled. Enjoy!! To watch the complete project click here - • Back roof overhaul

These videos are fantastic. They break down these jobs into manageable and informative chunks. I've been watching pouse since he taught me to plaster a few years back.
Thanks for the feedback and the kind words. 👍
It's my house so I'll do what I want.
I love this attitude.
Your workmanship looks ace too 👍🏻
Thank you.
Great decision to replace the old roof, ties up the whole project nicely.
That was my thinking. Thanks for watching!
Excellent as always Pouse
Thank you.
Love this home renovation videos!
Thanks for watching!
Love this channel. I’ve learnt so much over the years. 👍
Thanks for the feedback and your continued support 👍
Really enjoy your vids. Gives me a much needed kick up the backside to get my own place done.
Get on with it!! Thanks for watching.
Good stuff!
Thanks!
Using your tips to re slate the back off my cottage roof next week great vids
Best of luck with the slating and thanks for watching.
Which is best way to get correct gauge for your first row from eves
Your house is like Trigger’s broom! 👍
Indeed it is!
1.) It's your house, you don't need ANY plan, ignore trolls. 2.) Cherish time workin with family!
Well to be honest I always have a plan, I guess my point is plans can change and usually do! Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching 👍
Wahay...pousey...you chear me up!
Hope you are all well.
I have carpal tunnel and am tiling bathrooms at the mo ...it's a disaster!
Well done!
Blimey sounds nasty, hope you're on the mend. I'm surprised I cheer you up, most people say I bring them down with my moaning! Thanks for watching.
Brilliant video and I love the accent
Thanks for the feedback.
Another excellent job ….!
Thank you.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE I love watching your videos ……I’m no builder but you seem to do things properly……….!
@@pm1104 I'm no builder either so who knows if I do it properly! 🤣
Parabéns 👏👏👏
Your house layout based on the shape of the house is probably strange and uncommon but I love it!
Also glad to see You, Big Pouse and Papa Pouse together and well through covid
Hope you will all be healthy and nothing wont stop your projects!❤
Thanks for the kind words. This was actually filmed May 2019 and covid with kids at home, working from home etc slowed down the editing of my footage. We're all well thankfully and double jabbed so plenty more vids to come. Wishing you and your family good health also, thanks for watching 👍
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Oh, ok I got My second vaccine shot yesterday lol! (Bcs of my age not that I wouldnt want it 😂) I Wish you the best and hope for more videos to come!
Great video its amazing what you can do with a bit of endeavor
Thanks for watching.
And a Big Pouse 😉
@@bigpouse yeah yeah....
Pouse, Big Pouse and Papa Pouse - peas in a pod. Resemblance is uncanny!
Ha ha. I'll let Big Pouse know, I'm sure he'll be pleased 😀
Where’s the ta ta farewell????!! Top job as per usual pouse!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks! Ta ta farewell? Maybe part 4 😉
Nice work buddy. Is this just done on weekends and holidays? It takes its toll of working full time too.
Great video as always Pouse. Just some feedback. When recapping, could you slow it down just a tad and have the camera lens focused more on what has been done. You've helped me out on alot of projects. Glad you're still going as you're grumpy style makes me chuckle! But more importantly, you make excellent, precise and concise videos that even an accountant can understand!
Thanks for the feedback. I'll se what I can do!! 👍
Appreciate the reply Pouse. Looking forward to part 2.
I miss the pouse party intro. Any chance you could upload the full version of the music?!
There's a bit more of it in my plastering vid - ua-cam.com/video/LyngzAYIuZs/v-deo.html. Not sure I have a full edited version to hand but I'll see! Thanks for the interest.
Good. I am not a construction guy. I am curious is there asbestos in those old tiles. Hope there is enough air flow in the tight roof areas. Love the videos.
Perhaps it is but it doesnt look like eternite (combination of Water, cement and azbestos)
No asbestos although older slates that look similar do sometimes contain it. We also wore industrial grade mask and kept the site wet to keep the dust down. Thanks for watching.
Any man-made slate that was made before 1999 had asbestos in them .
When is part 2 coming
Hopefully Friday......unlike the 5 month apart loft conversion vids! Thanks for watching.
Can we expect a loft update soon? Either way enjoying the new content 👍
@@notreallyhere1136 yes hopefully. These vids lead back to the loft. Thanks for the support!
Do you not need a vapour membrane between the plasterboard and the insulation@
No because its a ventilated roof. So the insulation was installed with expanding foam and then taped which effectively creates a vapour barrier. But if moisture were to seep through the insulation board it then meets the void I created between the insulation and the breathable membrane. I also used fascia vents which allow free flow of air along that space. You're probably thinking of a flat roof where there is solid timber above the insulation followed by an impermeable layer like EPDM or fibreglass? Thanks for the question.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Thanks for the reply.
I was thinking more along the lines of moisture passing through from the room side from the plasterboard and not having anywhere to go as you have PIR against it.
I'm only asking as I need to do the roof on my bungalow and the rooms are the same plaster board follows the joists with a small void at the top.
It was built in the 70s and has 70 or 75mm roof joists and no insulation, I just wanted to work out a cost effective way of insulating it when I get round to it.
@@Jamie-hu8fq it's standard practice but if you do it through building control they will tell you what thickness insulation is required. The idea is the insulation board is tight to the plasterboard so no void and because its warm you should never get condensing moisture anyway. If you have old bitumen felt you need a 50mm gap between insulation and felt. It can be reduced a touch with breathable membrane. Good luck with it.
Were you using a grinder to take the hump out of that rafter??
A grinder with a graff wood disk. Thanks for watching.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Good man, thank God for that! 👍😆🔨🇮🇪
Did you have to notify building control given this is renovation of a thermal element?
Did it same time as the loft conversion which was all done under a building control notice. Thanks for watching.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Brilliant, thanks. Thinking of doing something similar. How many times do they visit the site?
@@benmjt they weren't that bothered as they'd inspected the loft and were happy for me to crack on. I didn't insulate as much as the loft as the loft needed to meet loft conversion standards. I only went between rafters with insulation on this roof and added some earthwool over the top so no where near new build standard but an improvement to the existing roof. If in doubt speak to your officer and just ask what you'd need to do. Mine were really helpful. Best of luck with it.
🤙🤙🤙🤙
Thanks for watching!
Is the mrs called spouce pouse?
I'll ask her! Thanks for watching.
Hi Pouse , could you please explain how you worked out where to put the slate battens ,is it roughly half a slate depth or is it something more precise, many thanks .
Depends on your slates and pitch. Manufacturer will have details but from memory I think the gauge (distance from bottom of one batten to bottom of another) is roughly 25cm on these slates at this pitch which gives the right over lap for weather conditions. The less steep the pitch, the smaller the gauge and if the pitch is too low you can't use them without other protection underneath. If you search how to set batten gauge for slates there's lots of info online and will explain better than I can here. Check cembrit or marley website, all info and guides are there. These are cembrit jutland fibre cement slates. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
@@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE Massive thanks for the quick reply Pouse . Very much appreciated mate .
