  • Welcome to part 2 of 5 in my series of rear roof overhaul videos. In this video we strip the other side of the roof, insulate with PIR board, grind the gable end down to create an overhang, add breathable membrane, battens and do a bit of slating before the weather puts a stop to progress!! Hi, love you videos always find them really informative. Only a small point but I always find when you speak the sound quality really poor, music is always loud but when you talk it’s quiet. Don’t want to whinge as I find your videos great……keep it up. From a fellow Welshman!

      Hi Jonathan, as this footage was filmed a few years ago, I was using my old camera with built in mic. Since then I have bought a better camera and a couple of better mics so hopefully the sound will improve. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching 👍

    How do you know the correct space for each of the batterns? Wish i had your knowledge in the things u do its amazing. 👌🏾👌🏾

      The manufacturer will tell you what overlap is required based on the pitch of your roof. You can physically set them out as they have pre drilled nail holes. Then to ensure you get even overlap to the top you measure from the eves up to ridge divide by the min overlap (25cm on these slates) and round up. This will give you number of battens. Then divide length by number of battens and that will give you precise gauge which will give you an overlap less the same or more than the maximum recommended which is good. If you look up batten gauge or setting out slates on Google there's plenty of info out there. Hope that helps!

      Probably a 500 pound or more for the end of the roof (not the full loft conversion), but materials were cheaper when I did it than now, tool cost is in addition to that, my insulation was bought as seconds or second hand and I did all the labour, so it's difficult to compare one job to another. Hope that helps.

      @@POUSEaroundtheHOUSE We want it back! Do you know what year your house was built? I was wondering how do you find the noise travel between yours and next door? Presumably with these older houses the bricks block more of the sound.

    • @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
      @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE  3 роки тому

      @@koolio67890 about 1890. The brick does help as I can never hear the door knock when in the back of the house but then it is quite long. Modern houses should have insulation to help prevent sound travel. I find I can hear the neighbours only if their shouting for whatever reason. Thanks for watching.

    You where running out of batten on that last line of tiles .
    Was there a reason for the top edge of tile sitting in the middle of the battens

    • @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE
      @POUSEaroundtheHOUSE  3 роки тому

      I do that on each row if you watch closely. It's so the nails of the next slate on top go through into the same batten without breaking slate below. So nails from slate on top and top of slate below share the same batten. Also battens often waver a touch as they are never perfectly straight. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
