Bravo, Rachel! Was using it Friday ('67 Ford 4000 Industrial w/ Ford 737 front end loader) . 30 minutes into job it died and refused to start again. It has never done this before. Had plenty of fuel in the tank. Suspected fuel line blockage but, pulled a spark plug before pulling and fuel lines and discovered we were not getting any spark. Decided to replace coil, and all the ignition parts you recommend in your video. Can't remember the last time this was done...probably 20 years ago. Your video was great for reviewing the process of replacing all the ignition parts. When my local NAPA guys could not find the condenser for the repair I canceled that order and ordered everything but coil and spark plugs from you. You have impressed me so much that I subscribed to your channel and created my own UA-cam channel just so I could comment on your video. Plan to look into everything you have on Ford 4000 tractor repairs. Wish you had one on how to replace the rear main engine seal. I'm having a tough time finding anyone in southeast New Mexico that works on these awesome little tractors.
Rachel, this is an excellent job explaining the electrical circuit in the motor, I have such information and have been working with it in the past. Thank you 🙏
A segment about setting timing would be helpful as part of the ignition overhaul. The shop manual description is a bit wonky so seeing it live would be helpful. Thanks for all you do, these videos are excellent.
Very comprehensive but I watched one of your 4 cyl 9n tuneup videos that threw me off. In that video you mention distributor rotation and stated that all distributors newer than a particular date rotate clockwise. I assumed that meant for the newer 3600 3 cyl as well. I doubted my own documenting of my wiring and assumed I had mis-traced my wires which indicated a counter clockwise rotation. I finally removed the new cap to watch actual rotor rotation and verified it is, in fact, counter clockwise. It would be worth mentioning in this video. Otherwise, you've taught me more about this tractor I inherited than I've been able to find out anywhere else. Thanks for these wonderful videos.
Great tutorials. Excited to see a channel so dedicated to the cause. Exactly the kind of quick-transfer of knowledge I was looking for. Just acquired a 1969 Ford 2000; one that has been sitting for 6 years, but absolutely certified as 'ran-when-parked.' So, we'll wake the old girl up, on site, and take her home under her own power.
Good job Rachel. I made a similar video last fall. I always learn something from you and Dan so I encourage you to keep creating and posting videos. It's challenging to keep our old tractors operating. Thanks.
o-my this is just what i needed on a cold winter day is to watch a hot tractor repair video. 🤩 gee, it would be interesting to see the factory workers make the old tractor parts. 🧐🥳
Blue Streak used to sell some stuff called "Lubricam" put just a little on the cam that the points run on, and your points will stay in spec and last longer too.
I am rebuilding the harness, carburator, and distributor system from a tractor that caught fire and matches exactly the model you are working on, I hope your website has all the parts needed! I also noticed you didn't address the missing vacuum line, it's purpose, and that the newer distributor assemblies don't require the vacuum line from the manifold above the carburetor.
Thanks. My father in law left us a 2000. He didn’t believe and buy a new parts. He believed in finding something you could make work. When you’re a mechanic, I guess you can do that. But I’m a plumber, so I just go by what the book says. The problem is things like the neutral safety switch aren’t even wired up anymore. I ordered that thin manual. But there’s no troubleshooting section.

Hey rachel, I need some advice I ordered a new dust cover which came with a felt washer and another little metal washer that looks like it has gears on it I noticed in your tune up video that you did not use these washers unless of course you had them already on when you put the dust cover in place I'm having a hard time getting that little metal washer on
First...I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! Question: In the manual it states the firing order is 1 2 3 and the rotor rotates CCW. The #1 starts as indicated in the distributor cap (You continue to state it could be different on your tractor) All gas 3000's have the same firing order and distributor rotation, you state several times you are putting the number "1" wire on the cap first then putting the cap on because of manifold clearance issue with #1 wire. That is ACTUALLY the #2 wire that is having the clearance issue with the manifold. Watch your video at 17:04 you can see the #1 in the cap just to the left of your right index finger. The number one wire you are referring to is really number 2; Correct? since its a 3 cylinder it may not matter as long as the order is 123 on the distributor in the CCW direction. :)
Hello collie, I think you're right and I'm putting one back together for a guy and I know the firing order is 123 but is that counted from the radiator or the back of the motor?
working on this 3000 and got the points replaced. Unfortunatly I dropped a screw and had to pull the distributor. I'm betting i screwed up the time because it backfires when I try to start it now. At least I know I got spark and fuel. A step closer. So I 'm likely not in too bad a shape. I didn't turn it over while I had it out. Hopefully I can figure it out. Mechanics isn't my strong suite. lol Do you have a video on setting the timing?
is that an american version, becouse i have a ford 2000, and it has no sparkplugs but glow pins, nor carbouratour but a central injection, no distrubuter connected to the camshaft, it tanks diesel, has the front lights on the front grill and can you cover the hydrolic system? Mine is having issues lifting heavy things and keeping it in the air, the hydrolic pump has to step in constantly
Great tutorial, and clearly the distributor on this tractor did need some work, but is it not true that the noise it makes at 2m30s when you try turning it over is a bad starter?
excellant show on job have one question ford tractor i bought # 1 was at back of motor you say front maybe person before me did wrong why wont run its a 3 cylinder please help me thank you
I have a question sure hope you answer it. I replaced everything that is in this video. I have no spark. So i tested it with a spark tester(in line type) i have spark and tractor starts up with the tester connected but as soon as i remove it wont start no spark. Any ideas what would cause this???
My F2000 starts but stalls after about 10-15 minutes. If I let it sit for a while it starts up with no problem . It’s the 3 cylinder gas engine. Any suggestions. Thank You
My 861 will start as soon as I turn the power on even if I don’t press the power switch. The starter stays engaged until I turn the power back off. Any idea what this issue might be?
Can you do a video on fuel air lock in lines I re did my carb and started it . it whistled very loud then I put another gasket on it stopped. My gas lines had rubbor selves on them that went into the carbirator front and side is that why??
All well and good, but I'm having trouble with my 1963 Ford 4000 6-volt charging system, and no YTrs have covered this in concise understandable terms and provided a functional schematic diagram for the regulator or an explanation of how/why it works or doesn't. In fact, there is very little information out there for this tractor. My generator shows it is charging, but after running the tractor even 5 minutes, it fails to restart because the battery refuses to turn it over. I've worked on this for days, searched for relevant information to no avail. Any advice? (apart from just junking this POS).
No love for the 5000? Just about everything you mentioned applies to that machine as well. What's your opinion of ditching the points for an electronic ignition like the Pertronix? Also allows you to convert the ignition to a full 12v setup. Love the videos. Agree that the large White manual is well worth the $$.
Dear rachel gingell, here we have mf 240 in large scale production in pakistan... So we have basic problems with mf240 since it has been invented... 1. Poor internal hydraulic pump...so can it would be mount externally like fiat 480....no.2 is low pto hp... So can we increse its pto hp by modifying or changing pto gear...
I never had a dust cover on my 8N tractor. Did they once have one from the factory, and should I buy one and install it? Only use the tractor to cut the grass, and plow show, not disk a field of dry soil.
The 8N side distributor was not originally outfitted with a dust cover. The dust cover was introduced for the Jubilee model and later. Please see this video for a tutorial on that specific distributor, and a more detailed explanation of the dust cover: ua-cam.com/video/W-JUeOhTuxo/v-deo.html
@@DanGingell Thanks for your feedback. I'll check the video you suggested now! FYI...I had Dan Gingell convert my 8N tractor to 12 volt way back in 1994 when the shop was on Lapeer Rd. THUMBS UP!!!
Just an FYI regarding some 3000/3550 systems. At ua-cam.com/video/r7PYHYxKlXI/v-deo.html your test is overlooking one possibility that occurs on my 3550. The rearmost coil terminal shows voltage with the ignition switched on, but it disappears when the starter is engaged because some ignition switches don't provide coil voltage in the start position (like mine). There is a secondary contact in the starter relay that is supposed to provide that while cranking but I've had two relays fail. I start mine now by connecting a push button switch between 12V+ and the rear coil terminal. I have to hold the switch closed while cranking to start the thing. I'm going to install a permanent push button switch instead of replacing the starter relay again.
I’ve got a Ford 2000. I can’t get power to go to the starter. I replaced the key switch the regulator the coil. I am at a loss and out of my element. That thin manual doesn’t have any trouble shooting section. It was a waste of money. I’m gonna see if I can find a digital copy of the thick manual. In the meantime, I will take advice from anybody.
Been working on a family members tractor for a month now. They thought it was an electrical problem and ended up burning the entire harness. So I replaced all the wiring. No luck starting. Rebuild the carb. Still wont fire. I'm doing the timing now. How about you come fix it for me. I'm getting sick of working on it for free. Ford 2000 3 cyl gas. I own a ford 5000 diesel thank god. So much easier to work on.
THANK YOU FOR COMING BACK AND LETTING US COMMENT... This channel has helped me with my farmall's
