Your part about Arya and comparing her to Daenerys is amazing.... I'll do you one better. Compare Arya killing Walder Frey, poisoning all the male Frey's indescriminately, and the questioning Sansa scene to Daenerys' killing the Khal's, her meeting with the Slavers in Mereen at the end of season 6, and her snap at the Bell's.
I don't know if it was worth it, but I'd rather get the occasional Game of Thrones teardowns every few months than have all the best channels cover it at once then hear nothing again.
Been waiting for this for 8 months. It's great to hear that some people still actually care about this show. It ended so poorly that people just don't talk about it anymore. Good on you man
I waited for season 8 to come out before watching anything about it, all good as long as it followed the book. But as soon as those morons of the "show business" took over we may as well have watched slow motion bullets splitting bananas on UA-cam.
One of the worst things for me is the whole "the lone wolf dies but the pack survives" thing only for the Stark's to all be separated in the end... What's that about
If you consider Sansa, Arya & Jon each wanted lives outside of the Starks - Jon felt excluded, Sansa wanted her fairy tale in the South, and Arya had to learn to be "no one"... by the end, they all accept themselves as Starks even though each character is going in their own direction - they are still a pack....
“When winter comes and the white winds blow, the lone Wolf dies but the pack survives.” I think in the books, it will be hinted at that since winter is over, the pack can go their own way. They only need to be together when winter is here
@XyloTheGreat Even when you see one wolf roaming, you typically assume it is still connected to a pack - otherwise something is wrong with the wolf or the pack is dead...The concept of a House is like a pack - House Stark still survives. Jon always said since the first episode that was never a Stark - turns out he is a legitimate Stark family member and now accepts it. Arya DID claim to be no one several times and then later rejected it to reclaim her name Stark. She also pretended to not be a Stark several times before going to the House of B&W. Sansa wanted to marry a prince and spent the series becoming a Baratheon betrothed, then a Lannister, then a Bolton, (potentially a future Baelish) eventually coming into her own as Stark. she became a queen without having to reject her name. Even Bran, despite being the 3 eyed raven, still became King Stark. Each character had a lone wolf aspect to them that roamed/distanced them from the Stark name, but the house still survived in the end. You could also interpret a double meaning to the quote - a single wolf can die out of pack, but the pack can survive despite the loss. Ned Stark's death did not end House Stark - think back when Varys asked Ned in the dungeon, what about his daughter's life - this quote would fit as a response to that. I will say though, you make a good point about Arya not needing to go West if she had Bran right there - that's what I would do lol - but some people have to see and experience stuff for themselves, and she was always an adventurer.
@XyloTheGreat I don't view it as a disaster it was clearly truncated and not completely what I predicted, but there were a ton of dope aspects of season 8 and a lot of it made more sense than people want to give credit - but art/media/entertainment is all subjective in the end. Plus there are very few popular TV shows with universally praised solid endings when you think about it - especially dramas, sci-fi and fantasy shows.
I’m genuinely envious of people who can still enjoy the earlier seasons. For me the ending was such a disaster it’s totally destroyed any re-watch value ☹️
It's how I feel about Star Wars as well as GoT. Even the original Star Wars trilogy is unwatchable for me now knowing how it all ends and that it was all for nothing. With GoT it's such a shame because the plot should have written itself. The threads were all there to be connected. Unfortunately, D&D are terrible writers and here we are.
The imagery of having Jon on the throne with Ghost and Rhaegal, both symbols of the houses he represents, is great and I’m glad you put that vision in my head now
It would've been nice to see Drogan actually talk at that moment. Like Smaug from the Hobbit. It would've reaffirmed the widespread belief that myself and most others have that Arda is actually Planatos and that the events of the Hobbit and LOTR are set after Asoiaf, essentially Smaug is actually Drogan after Daenerys death.
No Jon, it was power that killed my mother. A structural and pervasive system of coercion under which you and I are merely actors. Why would I burn you? By melting the throne I have signaled my rejection of a discourse of violence and hubris. In this way I have fulfilled my mother's dream of breaking the wheel-
The saddest thing about the ending for me was that I didn't care for any of the characters anymore, by the end I would've been more happy for the Night King to have won, than the ending we got
I fantasize about meeting them out accidentally out in public, like in a line to a flight and just turning on the camera amd hurling all their failures at them, and people joining in. It's very satisfying.
Whenever I’m sad about the pitiful ending that this cultural juggernaut of a show had.... I just close my eyes and imagine the heads of HBO, crying themselves to sleep every single night during the lockdowns. Just knowing that they could’ve been running the most popular show in the world- to a *literal captive audience.* (Oh, plus the delightful irony that D&D’s careers suffered an identical “arc and crash” -alongside the show they butchered!! It was almost like every halfassed and slapdashed script they shat out, was actually a voodoo doll that their careers were unknowingly tethered to....) 😆💖
Your version of Dany's ending is actually very beautiful. Her overcoming her desire for power just as its about to corrupt her is her beating the madness that has been teased all through the show, its the ultimate victory for her and a great way to subvert her quest for the throne. Jon serving by being king is poetic as the show starts with Robert serving as king without wanting to but being bad, Jon will actually be good. Jamie gets a happy ending which is truly deserved. Cersei appropriately and Tyrion gets a good arc.
I remember watching the scene where Jon just lets Greyworm kill those surrendered soldiers thinking "Wow, you are dead to me now. " They really ruined his character in the last two seasons but his passiveness here was simply unacceptable to me.
Anyone who defends the final season is a stupid contrarian who clearly didnt pay much attention. It's an admission that they dont know what makes film/TV good.
@@d3l3tes00n I'm afraid there is no believable way to end it "how it should have been". Take Jon&Dany - there is no believable way to make them fall apart: once they fall in love, they have no legit reason not to marry and not to sit the Iron Throne as a couple; within the setting of the story, avuncular marriage is perfectly acceptable and neither Dany, nor Jon is that power-hungry to refuse to share it with the loved one. And this makes the ultimate conflict between them impossible, and this makes the end result impossible, too, as without falling out with Jon Dany loses the last legit reason fire on KL, etc. And if Dany burns KL before meeting Jon, any romance between them becomes impossible and thus there in no more drama in Jon killing Dany. In short, someone has to change the whole ending to get things more or less right.
@@ingabaranauskiene5889 Maybe if no one ever knew Jon was the true heir, but Dany wouldn't have married him knowing the throne would always be a threat & Jon wouldn't marry her because they're related.. he already lost his romantic attraction to her. It definitely would've worked if they had stretched out the seasons & had better writing.
Almost 3 years later, and I'm still not tired of listening to people rip on the final seasons of GoT for hours on end. I like your thoughts on Arya marrying Gendry. Never occurred to me, but once you laid it out - pretty sweet! Good job on these videos!
Ghost sitting by the throne as the GOODEST BOY is the ending we didn't deserve but should have had. Also would've been a nice poetic touch after the first season when a direwolf was executed for attacking the royalty.
Are the Dothraki obeying Grey Worm now? That makes no sense! The Dothraki would have gone on a rampage after Daenerys was dead. They would have chosen a new Khal. In fact, the Dothraki invading Westeros was teased in the first season. There's absolutely no way they would have followed the orders of a foreigner like Grey Worm, especially orders to just leave instead of looting. And yes, it's absolutely absurd that Grey Worm doesn't instantly kill Jon after it was established how loyal to the queen and bloodthirsty he is. But it's double absurd that not even the Dothraki want revenge on Jon.
What happened to the dothraki blood riders who swore to kill for her if her blood was ever spilled?? Also Greyworm not at least attempting to kill Jon was so stupid. In the end literally everyone Daenerys thought was on her side betrayed her, other than Missande and Jorah who were dead. That 180 in how all the main characters suddenly saw her in 1 episode after (mostly) years of knowing her was so frustrating to watch. Instead of trying to talk to her they just spoke to each other behind her back and plotted to kill her. Plus so many characters' integrity was destroyed to make this scenario happen. My God I still can't believe how much they screwed this show up and this was just 1 single plot point! I can't even describe my frustration with what they did to Jon's character.
It would be amazing if Jon had just killed Danny and is so shocked at it he staggers back and lands on the throne. Drogon attacks Jon with flames but he just stands there. The throne melts behind him but he is fine as fire cannot harm him
It would have been interesting to have Dany take the Iron Throne first, with minimum casualty. Jaime joins forces with her since she arrives at Dragonstone; he is forgiven for killing her father, as Dany knows exactly who her father was, but is ordered to kill Cersei to prove his loyalty (in the books he is waaaay done with his sister, so it makes perfect sense, and it also fulfills the prophecy). He does so. Dany is crowned queen. Jaime is made lord of Casterly Rock. It is the beginning of a new era. Jon arrives at King's Landing and asks Dany for help against the White Walkers. He also brings her an undead, in order to prove sh*t is real. She agrees to help, if he swears loyalty to her and brings the North back under her command. They travel North together. They become lovers, somewhere along the way. Tyrion and Varys suggest officially legitimizing Jon as a Stark, so that Dany could marry him. She agrees a marriage to him is both politically useful and something she actually wants. The war begins. The Long Night is really, really long. Like several years or so, as the winters last for years in this universe. Winterfell falls. More cities in the North fall. The survivors take refuge at The Twins. After a few miscarriages, Dany gives birth to a daughter, Lyanna. She has dark hair and purple eyes. As she recovers from the very difficult labor, Dany can see how the people regard Jon as their leader, and somehow seem to forget about her. In the meantime, Jon has learned from Bran of his legacy. He is stunned, but it changes nothing for him, as he loves Dany anyway - no, the incest thing doesn't work here, as they are aunt and nephew, not brother and sister. Ned's parents had also been first cousins, and Tywin had married his first cousin, and Sansa was about to marry her first cousin, and many others did the same, so they are perfectly fine in this regard. Dany learns of Jon's legacy. She feels threatened, as now he is not just some bastard she had legitimized and made king by marriage, but the actual rightful ruler she must obey, and people seem to love him and disregard her, despite her major contribution to the war efforts. Their love falls apart and they become rivals, as the war rages around them. Dany is now more concerned with her status than with the real enemy - The Night King. She feels she is being used, and she has been used the whole time. She starts to suspect everyone for plotting against her. Her first victim - Varys. Here, we could have the beautiful Dany-DragonWings scene. During a huge battle, more of the major characters die (Bronn, Jorah, Theon etc.). Rhaegal and Viserion also die. Dany herself is almost killed, as she tries to save some innocents from a city invaded by the White Walkers. She loses patience and burns them all, innocents and undead alike. Jon confronts her for this rushed decision, and she blames him for everything. More people are executed for treason, Missandei among them, at Dany's command. Jon supports her at first, but then is concerned with her actions, thinking not all those guys acted like traitors. Jaime says it all starts to look too familiar. The war rages on, with very little chances for the living. Sam tells the story of Azor Ahai and Nissa-Nissa. Dany feels betrayed by everyone, as she burns another city while trying to kill a large part of the undead army, and nobody seems supportive. Also, she feels responsible for the lives of her men, so she decides to take her daughter and remaining army and go South, saying everything had been a huge mistake. Tyrion tries to reason with her, but she turns against him and reminds him of Varys and Missandei - her other advisors that had betrayed her. Jaime thinks his little brother is in danger and intervenes; Dany takes it as a threat and has him arrested and executed, before Jon can stop her. Jon's sisters learn of Jon's legacy. They view Dany as mentally unstable and dangerous, especially now that she regards Jon as a rival to the throne. Sansa tells Jon that Dany will be the death of him. Arya tells Jon she knows a killer when she sees one, and reminds him of how she killed Varys, Jaime, Missandei and others for nothing. Tyrion, still under shock after his brother's death, agrees with the Stark girls. Greyworm also thinks Dany is no longer the sweet and kind queen he had once decided to follow. Jon is reluctant, as he still loves his wife dearly, but knows something must be done. Melisandre arrives, carrying Lightbringer. She also tells Jon the story of Nissa-Nissa. Dany suspects Tyrion of treason and she has him arrested. Jon tries to talk to her, but she is beyond unreasonable at this point. She also expresses concern with Sansa and Arya plotting against her, and tells Jon she had ordered for their arrest as well. Jon stabs her with Lightbringer; she dies. The blade catches fire. Bran wargs into Drogon. Jon rides Drogon into battle, fights the Night King, kills him, and wins the war. Jon is King. His daughter Lyanna, the princess of Dragonstone, is his heir. Tyrion is Hand of the King. Bran is Master of Whisperers. Sansa is Queen in the North. Arya marries Gendry and goes west of Westeros, in search of adventure. The end. Thanks for reading :)
In season 1, king Robert laid out exactly what was wrong with this world and what lead to all the conflict: "One king, seven kingdoms." Then Daenerys says for several seasons "I'm going to break the wheel." I think it's obvious that the way the show was supposed to end is either good queen Daenerys becomes queen of Westeros only to grant all seven kingdoms their independence, or Jon Snow becomes king of Westeros and grants all seven kingdoms their independence, thus eliminating the hub of power that caused every power hungry person in the world to fight for it. But instead, breaking the wheel turned out to be putting the right person on the throne of seven kingdoms. Give me a break.
Well, getting all seven kingdoms united to defeat the dead could have worked and them deciding to stay together and electing the right king could have worked, too, but it was Jon, not Bran who had to be elected (and no independence to the North).
@@davidhoffman6980 First of all, we need some clarity regarding what wheel Dany was talking about: the wheel of hatred and vendetta or the wheel of competition? The first one could be broken only by forgiving and learning to work together for the common goal. The second one - the wheel of competition - is essentially the wheel of life and can only be replaced with a new better wheel. So, replacing the old system of hereditary monarchy combined with the selfish rivalry of the great houses with a more democratic and uniting system of something like an elected monarch + parliament/great council could have worked at least in the context of the story. But it should have been done in the right way and with the right outcome. And Bran as a king is not the right outcome: there are zero reasons to believe that he might make a competent ruler and hold on his wheel-chair throne for long.
"subverting expectations" killed the show. Sometimes you need to give people what they are expecting because it's the only thing that makes sense. Tropes, as opposed to clichés, exist for a reason. People like stories because there is an internal logic and justice, as well as cuase and effect. Or even purposeful yet meaningful lack of justice or logic. It's harder to do but it can be done if the metanarrative justifies it. But what Dumb and Dumber did is make a show that was essentially random and meaningless in the end because they were addicted to doing the unexpected instead of following their story threads to their logical conclusions. They didn't just flip things on their head. They did things at RANDOM to confuse the audience. Pure idiocy.
See I think its the opposite way. At least from the books humanity’s lack of unity at the present to set aside the pointless wars for the throne is basically prepping them for destruction against the force that is the Others. Westeros going back into seven separate realms is the bad ending imo because it just ensures generations of pointless wars over nonsense, the opposite of what the world would need after defeating death itself.
My own personal theory, is that Jon when he is resurrected in the books, will have white hair and red eyes. Other resurrected characters such as Beric and Catelyn, have white or grey hair. Jon will be resurrected by fire from Melisandre (possibly by sacrificing Shireen) so he will have red eyes. So, he will have Ghost’s coloring. Plus, in Jon’s chapters and Bran’s chapters, red and white are a recurring motif of the old gods and the north. Also, bastards use reverse coloring of their house’s colors. Blackfyre used a black dragon on red. Stark banner is a grey Wolf on white. So Jon’s banner will be a white Wolf on grey. Plus, Jon will have white hair and red eyes like Ghost and will likely be called The White Wolf (Robb was the Young Wolf, Ned was the Quiet Wolf, etc). So, I don’t think Jon will sit on the throne since he would be an undead king of sorts, although it would definitely be something different. But Isaac Wright who played Bran said that Bran on the throne came from GRRM. And the series starts off with a Bran chapter so it would be full circle ending with a Bran chapter. Just my 2 cents. I have no idea what will happen to other characters other than Sansa will be ruler of something
The idea of Bran as a king definitely comes from GRRM but it's a bad idea nonetheless. Bran the Three-Eyed-Raven is a supernatural being and moreover, he has never had a decent conflict of his heart (at least so far). So, based on that he has no prerequisites of becoming a good ruler - rather he has the potential to become the worst tyrant of all. And this doesn't make a satisfying ending.
The best thing about the final two seasons is people, analyzing it and seeing how bad and stupid it's. And shitting on Dum and Dummer (David and Dane).
34:06 what a waste of an excellent actor, Tobias Menzies’ shines in Outlander. Ramsay Snow and Joffrey Baratheon pale in comparison to the demented villainy of Black Jack Randall, and most of it is all thanks to Menzies’ brilliant acting.
Absolutely! Tobias really makes you despise Black Jack Randall. It's awesome that in the same series he gets to play Frank, who is his angelic self, and he is fantastic in that role as well. In fact, the definition of sadism should have his picture next to it, because it irks me when people often misuse that word when describing crazy people.
Tyrion from seasons 1-4: One of the greatest characters in television Tyrion from seasons 5-8, acting aside: "Look at how they massacred my boy..." Thanks for this series of videos, BTW
Remember Dany's Dothraki blood riders who swore to kill whoever sheds her blood and they just casually walked past Jon Snow, the man who murdered their queen, when he was walking to the boat to sail off? (After they all died in episode 3 then magically came back to life in episode 4 of course.) Yeah me too.
I have been waiting for this whole week to watch this review since my work keeps me busy and miserable. Finally, I grab a bucket of fried chicken and cups of bubble tea, laying down on my couch ready to enjoy the video... ... and I'm not disappointed at all. What a great review series!
The North accepts Sansa as Queen in the North IMMEDIATELY but, like you said, John was King in the North when he was fighting in King's Landing but... Tho he was their King, the Northmen openly disobeyed his orders, to the point of trying to MURDER him for interrupting a goddamn rape, while Dany roasted King's Landing!
I actually got chills at the end with the sad music, when you described Jon taking the throne against his wishes with Ghost and Rheagal by his side 😭 lol. We are an abused fandom
THANK YOU 🙏🏼 My verbatim argument why the hell wasmt Jon Snow named King by his family, and those close to him who told him about his heritage. How the hell wasn’t this the writers angle by getting this mish-mash of who’s who at this royal council, while Jon and Tyrion are still being held alive. Thanks for trashing GOT D&D, the gentleman making these videos should be the one to rewrite the season 8 of the show. He’s got my vote!
One, because they can't prove Jon Snow is a legitimate heir. all they have is that Lyanna and Rhaegar had a legitimate weeding after a farce of an annulment (That's not how Annulment work) There's no evidence they had a child, and even less that this child is Jon Snow, all they have is Bran vision. and no one should accept the vision of his "Half-Brother" as a legitimate proof. No other Noble in the Seven Kingdom would accept that claim. Would you? Some dude come to you and tell you, "Heh my Brother is king, i saw it in a vision." Would you believe him? They would be in that same situation. Second. The whole story themes at least in the books is one that say Monarchy is bad, having another Monarch who follow the previous dynasty would be a terrible end because it go against the themes of the books. At least if something like that happened it would not be something we are meant to applaude, but the GoT audience would have applauded a Jon king
I just got high, closed my eyes, and listened to this and you know what? I feel better now. I feel good with the journey you've made and its given me a good ending for the show. thank you for this gift.
@56:01 "which turned, what started as one of the best shows ever, into a Dexter tier botch job" Thank you so much for saying that. Most of my favorite film channels have helped me cope with The Last Jedi, and Game of Thrones, but no one talks about Dexter. I loved that show, then it got so bad and had such a terrible ending that made no sense. Can you cover that show after you've finished Game of Thrones?
Thank you for your time, care, energy and for sharing your smart creative ideas for this finale. Particularly, the portion when you offered your 5-part solution (while keeping the first 7 seasons as is) offered such a bright spot in my soul. Your description for your finale nearly brought a happy, relief-stricken tear to my eye. THAT would have been a beautiful ending and would have kept the legacy of the series safe. Again, thank you very much! I needed this.
@1:10:55 "[many see the white walkers as an allegory for] mother nature's rath" I see: Aria jumping out of nowhere and stabbing the Night King causing the entire white walker army to evaporate was a metaphor for that time when hurricane Katrina almost destroyed New Orleans, but at the last second, the army shot a missile into the eye of Katrina, causing the storm to end instantly and permanently ending, hurricanes, tornadoes, tsunamis, and other natural disasters worldwide. This show is more optimistic than I gave it credit for.
Wow! That ending you made gave me goosebumps. All the puzzle pieces fell right into place and all the characters endings made sense and were just and fulfilling.
I don't think I've ever heard anybody mention that Sam would have been beheaded as a deserter of the night's watch. He was sent to Old Town to become the maester at Castle Black. But halfway through his training he just said, "Nah..." and went off to marry Gilly. Did I miss the part where somebody absolved him of his vows?
I can only imagine how pain staking crushing the details, scene by scene, on what made the show fail miserably. Imagine if everything from your 5+ hours of season 8, was cannon?! Would have been 🏆 of a show! They should have hired you to proof read the script! Hoping you still can hammer out the other seasons you mentioned 6&7.
I wish as much thought went into the final few series as went into this critique. I have zero desire to rewatch and don't even recommend the show to people now. Such a waste, the cast, talent, costume, makeup, effects, sets, music, sound design - everything's top tier. Just gash writing and rush towards an already-decided end. 😞
As someone who has written since a teenager, I’d cry tears of blood if someone took one of my stories and bludgeoned it the way the writers did here. When they took on GOT they knew it would be a challenge that would probably take over 10 seasons to execute properly. Two of the books are the same time line and take place in different locations. There are many story lines in the books that didn’t even make it into the series. When you take on a challenge like this you accept it will take up your life. Success comes with sacrificing other projects. GRRM trusted them with the ending to his books. I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to the readers because reading those books are an investment of time, but I liked them so I didn’t mind. People have praised D&D for being “brilliant” but it seems once they ran out of references from the books it went south. I’ve thought a lot about that and the only conclusion I can draw is that since the writers didn’t create the characters themselves, they didn’t care as much. Once the reference material ran out it seems they all picked one trait of each character and stuck with it. For example, Cersei. In earlier seasons she was evil, but she was cunning, had moments where the pain she has endured comes through, and was rightfully pegged as ruthless because of her actions. It seems in later seasons they just depended on her reputation of her being “evil” to enforce it in the script. I get getting burnt out with a projects. I get wanting to move on from something, but most writers and artists would kill to have a huge TV network give them a blank check to tell the stories they have worked on. D&D seemed like they depended on the shows popularity and fan base to just ingest whatever they decided to throw on the screen. What D&D did wasn’t just a disservice to the fan base. It was a slap in the face to the actors who invested years of their lives to playing these characters. Most actors put their all into a character and get into their headspace in order to properly execute their performance. They did a disservice to the writer who created the story. It’s hard to show the world the story you have created in your head. They insulted writers collectively. Writers dedicate their time to characters and a story. D&D just butchered it all.
This is a great critique, thanks! You really hit the nail on the head about this final episode. Love and hate that we're all still upset two years later. I think the biggest issue this show had was they had created characters and plotlines that had deviated from the source material and instead of writing a natural conclusion to the story they had actually written, they decided to go with Martin's ending, making everything feel so illogical and forced, because that just wasn't the story they had written. Personally, I will never like Dany's heel turn, Arya leaving her family, and Bran being KOT7K even if Martin writes it, but it really did not work for the characters or the story that D&D had written. In defense of one thing however, I understand Jon is a fan favorite but he was never going to be king and he made it super clear he did not want to be. He abdicated the throne, just like Aemon did. Jon is supposed to be a deconstruction of the "hidden prince/chosen one" fantasy trope and his ending makes sense for his character in the show. In fact, all the living characters get a happy ending, proving Ramsey's over-used quote to be wrong.
You really hit the nail on the coffin with everything. I really love what you did with your alternate ending, especially Daenerys. It fits her character perfectly. I always thought the House of The Undying vision would go on to resemble her turning away from or giving up the throne. I can't wait to see what you have to say about the previous seasons 😆
After watching your critique part 3, I’ve decided your ending is the ending I chose to think of-wow-brilliant. For the 1st time since GOT ended I actually liked the thought of it. Great critiques, excellent & sound logic, attention to common sense. Well done.
It simply sucks how this show ended. I still love seasons 1,2,3 and 4; am fine with season 5, really like season 6, and will forever wish season 7 and season 8 simply did not exist.
2:07 This is head canon, and thus not justification, but they could have been hiding in the chaos once the dragon started burning everything down and the unsullied pulled them out of their hiding place(s) and then lined them up.
I don't think we'll see ASOIAF ever end, I really hope GRRM has some bullet points that show us how it really ends, I refuse to believe it ends the way the show did.
1:02:01 Get you point here, but there have been Targaryens not following these traits, such as Aemon, who sacrificed his chances for the throne, for a life at the watch.
I just binged all three parts and I LOVED every minute of it! Fantastic commentary, editing...and I also loved your alternative. SUBBED and I can't WAIT for MORE!
Plus, if Danny gave the Throne to Jon and lived, she could have gone back to Essos to make things run smoothly. Because let's be honest, the series never addressed how Danny dying would probably embolden the masters to institute slavery again.
Come on.. that wing shot was the best thing outta season 8. It's mind blowing how much time is spent on extra shit in this final season. Jon riding a dragon should've been epic, but instead we got like 30 mins of fluff flying. Dany going mad & her relationship with Jon should've been stretched out for at least a few seasons, too. Feeling nothing when such a major character is killed by her lover is so disappointing.
I kinda wonder if Dany didn’t “snap” until she heard the bells because she knew what the ringing of the bells really meant. As you’ve pointed out about them retconning that idea and having Tyrion tell her that it means surrender, while Davos says he’s never known them to mean that, maybe Dany does too. While that’s a possibility, if that’s why she decided to go ham, it makes no sense that she would do it on the streets and kill so many innocents. I remember watching it and the whole time being like “the castle is right there, Cersei is right there. If she’s who you’re after, then go for her directly.” So I doubt that the writers thought that through, lol.
38:52 Electoral Succsession of Kings has happenend in many Cultures and Countrys throughout history. For example in the Holy Roman Empire from the early 10th century until the late 18th century. A monarchy of this kind is not so unstable as you might think. In Game of Thrones itself it might be a little bit out of place but it is not that unlogic as you mention it. But I think it would be better if Bran himself would come up with this idea because he would be smart enough to decide that in future it would be better to legitimite a new king not through his bloodline but through the vote of the high lords.
You're season 8 rewrite almost made me cry and if it had been the real one and I'd seen it acted out with all the trimmings I would have 100% sobbed through it. And I had absolutely no emotional response to the actual final season.
it's amazing when you watch the final seasons and then start the whole show over again. it's like being on an exciting roller coaster that somehow turns into a coin-operated kiddie ride you used to see outside of a supermarket. what a shame.
What battle Bronn has won to be made the master of wars? And him being made the Lord of Casterly Rock, the Lannister ancestral seat would have been much better than being the lord of Highgarden.
I will never forget how i felt watching the last season (really 2 seasons but specifically this one).. Ive read the books, i spent hours on theories & knew all the character intricacies.. just to be given this as the finale. To see Jon go from being a bastard, outcast from his own family, to LC of the NW, to uniting the wildings & getting his home back, to FINALLY be told his lineage.. just to be cast aside, his efforts for nothing, his sacrifices for fuck all. I felt so sick & still do thinking about how badly they screwed up not his just character, but so many. Its awful, never has there been a show so beloved, so successful, be ruined & left in the dirt after 2 writers effectively destroy it.

INDEED ITS WORTH IT! THANKS!
Yes it wassss ty ❤️😘
I don't know if it was worth it, but I'd rather get the occasional Game of Thrones teardowns every few months than have all the best channels cover it at once then hear nothing again.
You should write a fanfic of the rewrite of seasons 5-8. Thanks so much for this.

True. I still tear up when hearing the theme song because it reminds me how good it was, which makes the last seasons feel even worse to me.

Been waiting for this for 8 months. It's great to hear that some people still actually care about this show. It ended so poorly that people just don't talk about it anymore. Good on you man
Agree. I was SO disappointed I couldn't even watch the ending. Ended up watching here on UA-cam.
I waited for season 8 to come out before watching anything about it, all good as long as it followed the book. But as soon as those morons of the "show business" took over we may as well have watched slow motion bullets splitting bananas on UA-cam.
@@KooChi1 Yet I have just discovered the great winter is a thing is real life...
too bad makers of the show didnt care as much
It was so bad I got rid of all my merchandise, I couldn't bare to even look at it anymore 😂
They only need to be together when winter is here
I think D&D kind of forgot about that
@XyloTheGreat Even when you see one wolf roaming, you typically assume it is still connected to a pack - otherwise something is wrong with the wolf or the pack is dead...The concept of a House is like a pack - House Stark still survives.
Plus there are very few popular TV shows with universally praised solid endings when you think about it - especially dramas, sci-fi and fantasy shows.
thank you for your sacrifice, soldier. you’re free.
I’m genuinely envious of people who can still enjoy the earlier seasons. For me the ending was such a disaster it’s totally destroyed any re-watch value ☹️
Season 5 started that for me, season 8 sucking was no surprise to me
Same, dude. Tried rewatching a few months back. It's all spoiled for me.
It's barely usable as background noise.
Actually its not so bad if you just watch the clips for amazing acting and incredible dialogue
I can still rewatch seasons 1-4 and force myself to stop at that.
The imagery of having Jon on the throne with Ghost and Rhaegal, both symbols of the houses he represents, is great and I’m glad you put that vision in my head now
Me too I really like it. I also like it that someone other than Dani is having a meaningful relationship with a dragon.
“Twas not you who killed her, Jon. For it twas her ambition for the throne that killed her.”
-Drogon probably
*Drogon then melts the symbolism*
Speech 100.Shakespeare was a dragon the whole time.
In this way I have fulfilled my mother's dream of breaking the wheel-
@@DeusRex02 that is a theory almost as stupid as this ending.
The saddest thing about the ending for me was that I didn't care for any of the characters anymore, by the end I would've been more happy for the Night King to have won, than the ending we got

It’s been 2 fkn years and I’m still enraged about these 2 dudes ruining a whole show. Thanks for making this video
Every time I see their faces I want to Dracarys them!
They ruined the best story every written
I fantasize about meeting them out accidentally out in public, like in a line to a flight and just turning on the camera amd hurling all their failures at them, and people joining in. It's very satisfying.
Oh and they end up on no flying list after that
I hate how the failure of this one great show is the writers essentially giving up and throwing us a fever dream of book spoilers and nonesense
Hah...fever dream, I get it 😉
Ahahahha
But yeah… that’s painfully accurate
Jon: "I can't defend what she did."
* 3 minutes later *
Jon: "Aye, it's easy for you to judge!"
grey worm: "you are not allowed to talk tyrion."
tyrion keeps talking and decides the next king of the 7 kingdoms.
Whenever I’m sad about the pitiful ending that this cultural juggernaut of a show had.... I just close my eyes and imagine the heads of HBO, crying themselves to sleep every single night during the lockdowns.
Just knowing that they could’ve been running the most popular show in the world- to a *literal captive audience.*
(Oh, plus the delightful irony that D&D’s careers suffered an identical “arc and crash” -alongside the show they butchered!! It was almost like every halfassed and slapdashed script they shat out, was actually a voodoo doll that their careers were unknowingly tethered to....) 😆💖
Same
Your version of Dany's ending is actually very beautiful.
My brother defended the shows ending like a lawyer, saying it was always meant to be that way from the start....I wanted to punch him.
Anyone who defends the final season is a stupid contrarian who clearly didnt pay much attention. It's an admission that they dont know what makes film/TV good.
Did you punch
I mean.. it was.. it just wasn't executed how it should have been.
And now his watch is ended.
😔
Can we have a part 4 where it's 40 minutes of you screaming at a picture of D & D?
Actually the dothraki would probably follow jon wouldn't they? He killed there khal so wouldn't he be the new khal?
@@soluslupus8138 correct
Man I’ve been waiting for this part 3. Glad you didn’t decide to pull a George and make us wait 10+ years!
It would be amazing if Jon had just killed Danny and is so shocked at it he staggers back and lands on the throne. Drogon attacks Jon with flames but he just stands there. The throne melts behind him but he is fine as fire cannot harm him
Oooo very cool
What an amazing idea :0
Holy shit!!!?! 🤯

I won’t lie… Euron getting eating by a fucking crackan is awesome
Agreed! At though I did lol
it's spelled Kraken
In season 1, king Robert laid out exactly what was wrong with this world and what lead to all the conflict: "One king, seven kingdoms." Then Daenerys says for several seasons "I'm going to break the wheel."
I think it's obvious that the way the show was supposed to end is either good queen Daenerys becomes queen of Westeros only to grant all seven kingdoms their independence, or Jon Snow becomes king of Westeros and grants all seven kingdoms their independence, thus eliminating the hub of power that caused every power hungry person in the world to fight for it.
@@ingabaranauskiene5889 that might have been a good outcome, but it's not breaking the wheel.
And this doesn't make a satisfying ending.

... and I'm not disappointed at all. What a great review series!
Bless the gods this was worth the time. The end, man I love all of these season 8 rewrite videos I’ve seen from dozens of people. So incredible...

@56:01 "which turned, what started as one of the best shows ever, into a Dexter tier botch job"
Thank you so much for saying that. Most of my favorite film channels have helped me cope with The Last Jedi, and Game of Thrones, but no one talks about Dexter. I loved that show, then it got so bad and had such a terrible ending that made no sense. Can you cover that show after you've finished Game of Thrones?
Would love a review of Dexter including a takedown of its ending. Dexter New Blood had a horrible ending too and tons of plot contrivances
Your ending is just PERFECT…just perfect. If only…
It’s been 84 years…. and it was worth it!
8:18 Dany rolled a d20 to cast Thaumaturgy speech projection
I don't think I've ever heard anybody mention that Sam would have been beheaded as a deserter of the night's watch. He was sent to Old Town to become the maester at Castle Black. But halfway through his training he just said, "Nah..." and went off to marry Gilly. Did I miss the part where somebody absolved him of his vows?
"Who has a better story than Bran the broken?"

D&D just butchered it all.
i love the part where cthulhu kills euron for trying to command a lizard
I was honestly entertained by the ending. It was so stupid it came right back around to being funny
It is really sad that everybody has a better story than bran.
Well done.
Excellent analysis! Thanks so much for making this, I really enjoyed watching it 👍
Absolutely worth the wait, thank you for all the hard work you've put into this series.
Best tear down of GoT I've seen.
It simply sucks how this show ended. I still love seasons 1,2,3 and 4; am fine with season 5, really like season 6, and will forever wish season 7 and season 8 simply did not exist.
Been waiting for this , thank you
It's unbelievable how much better your version is to be honest. Love it
This series was so damn good, you did such a good job of explaining everything thoroughly
2:07 This is head canon, and thus not justification, but they could have been hiding in the chaos once the dragon started burning everything down and the unsullied pulled them out of their hiding place(s) and then lined them up.
It’s plausible
Oh well at least the soundtrack didn’t disappoint
Well done, sir! Great analysis and enjoyable narrative. Looking forward to your future content with great anticipation.
I don't think we'll see ASOIAF ever end, I really hope GRRM has some bullet points that show us how it really ends, I refuse to believe it ends the way the show did.
yo i recently rewatched the others and have been waiting for this to drop. now go, be free
1:02:01 Get you point here, but there have been Targaryens not following these traits, such as Aemon, who sacrificed his chances for the throne, for a life at the watch.
Thanks for the videos man, 2024 and I’m still not over it.
I'm so happy I landed on part 1 yesterday, so I didn't have to wait for part 3🚀🚀🚀🚀
This was worth the wait. I’m excited
I just binged all three parts and I LOVED every minute of it! Fantastic commentary, editing...and I also loved your alternative. SUBBED and I can't WAIT for MORE!
I will watch these critiques for years…
I thought you forgot all about that. Like Mauler (he still no EP6).
Ikr
Brienne being knighted >>>
I think what he meant was that, while the shit was good, the meaning was meaningless.
Maaan finally part 3! I gave up hope thinking you quit on these critiques. Thanks!
At your rewritten ending..... Chills man. Literal chills.
I rewatched part 1 and 2 for this, and now I'm going to start watching part 3. I'm excited than I was for any season 8 episode.
Waited a long time for this masterpiece. 👌
your version of season 8 has been accepted as the new canon. thank you for your service!
