A slow timed revolver is one that fails to bring the chamber completely into alignment as the gun comes to battery. In this presentation, Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, demonstrates how to fix the timing on a slow timed revolver. Typically, slow timing is caused by the hand not fully engaging the teeth of the ratchet on the rear of the cylinder. This problem is corrected by the installation of an oversized hand. Simply disassemble the revolver, install the new hand, and check the function of the action. If the action binds, it usually means the hand was too large. To properly fit the hand, remove it from the revolver and use a fine India stone to bevel its head. Now reinstall and check the timing. Repeat this process, checking your work frequently, until the gun functions properly.

Never understood what cause a revolver to be out of time, let alone how to fix. Great video! Thank you.

Got my grandpa’s service pistol made in 1902, SW pre10, it saw service in WWI, WWII, and Korea, it locks up tight and has kept time better than a Rolex.
Just came into a SW 2nd Model HE .455 Webley, rechambered to 45AR, made in 1917 for British Service. It’s off time and I have to get around to fixing it, this video helped a ton!
You just can’t beat a revolver! This 1917 is the only one of my revolvers that has any negative issue, it’s earned it after the journey it’s had over the last 100+ years.

Omg this video today got me to fix my revolver. Issue with the cylinder not turning all the time and I saw the tension spring inside the trigger housing is what I didn’t install on the pin. Omg 8 hours later finally. Thank u

Also could be the star on the cylinder can wear out. I've seen smith's that were ww2 vintage that were still in time. Good video. 👍

He made reinstalling the hand spring look sooo easy. Took me an hour of trial and error, losing the spring, buying a new one, finding the old one, and another hour of fiddling with different size punches and popsicle sticks to figure out the right technique, lol.

Nice demonstration. Power custom parts are very good and Midway USA starts with quality source parts every time. The demonstration really shows the nuances needed to judge what needs tweaking to really make the new part work as it should. Nice!

This was great info. I will test to see if it chambers right. But I'll leave the rest to a professional. Now I know why my gunsmith said don't run plus p in my airweight. Thanks this will keep me safe.

i noticed my dan wesson wasn't locking the cylinder as well as it should. took the arm out and soldered a stainless steel shim to the outer side and worked it down with a diamond file. this was enough to push the hand over as the issue wasn't length but right to left movement. i get to keep all the original parts doing this. since its not a load bearing part, a shim like this was an acceptable fix. its purely a friction surface. next i think i'll try it on the cylinder bolt to further improve the lock up as it need about .001 more material.. but as of right now, its good enough to shoot. so anyone curious about adding material back on, you can get away with solder and steel if its a part that isn't load bearing. make sure you bevel the edges of the shim.
i also have a few ideas on how to fix sears without giving up the original hammer or trigger.

ProphetBAsedx Unfortunately we don't carry a replacement hand for the Eibar revolver - only the S&W at this time.

    • @Lulmane00
      @Lulmane00 9 років тому +2

but i heard the eibar's are mostly exact copies of the colt or S&w 38 special but in 32-20WCF calibur. so is the S&W compatible with it ?

I have a J frame 642. I lost the spring for the hand, and also want to replace the hand, and the firing pin.
Can you tell me what I need to order?
Also, what is the difference between a MIM part, and a regular part, most importantly, why does it matter?
Thank You, I really enjoy your videos.

Mr Potterfield - I own about a dozen different S&W revolvers. My all-time pet 29-2 has gone out of time and I will be fitting an oversize hand and cylinder stop. You have the best prices on the parts but WHY don’t you carry the offset files for the hand and stop windows? You sell file sets by the same firm that makes the offset files for Brownells; is there some reason you can’t get them?

Sorta late, but that might be the pawl on the cylinder that is unevenly shaped. 10/10 send to Smith And Wesson for service

wouldn't it be easier to replace the extractor and hand and start fresh, especially with $1800 S&W revolvers that loose time after 500 shots?
