These questions about no cell service areas and getting lost. I'm old enough to remember hiking in these remote places long before mobile phones and a GPS. Always carry a paper map, compass and know how to use them.
what is this "paper map and compass".... LOL. That is how I learned over 40 years ago. But my InReach Mini GPS is way easier than triangulating off of hills that may or may not be what I think they are! And it works at night, too.
I agree. Everyone should have a backup. I would add Phone gps works even without cell service. The maps have to be downloaded prior to losing service however. Know which direction your vehicle is and have a plan to get out if your phone dies. Memorize the area well enough to get back to a road.
Thank you for letting us meet your precious wife! It’s sweet the way y’all look at each other with such love 💕 in your eyes while you talk. It’s wonderful that she sees your adventuring as part of who you are instead of something to compete with.
Wow, what a fantastic video, Tristan! This is not only my new favorite video on your channel but maybe my favorite UA-cam video. I've watched a ton of your videos but just now getting around to this one. You are one of the prime reasons why I took the plunge into nomadism - two years full-time traveling the west in my no build Honda Element. I feel like I know you a lot better now. Your wife is very charming and easy going like you. Good luck to you both. btw I started this lifestyle at 73, now I'm 75.
Oh, congratulations!! You two are so lovely together. I loved watching your interactions and, yes, she is perfect for you and she's beautiful and very sweet.
You're living an awesome life, Tristan, both you and Cassie. I was fortunate being a military dependent living in other countries, especially Japan. The military paid for all of my travel abroad. Out of 23 years I spent 16 of them living in the UK, the European continent, and in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia and Turkey). I didn't attend linguistics school but learned different languages from evening classes and living with locals. In every country I took advantage of the camping and backpacking opportunities offered. I wish more of our young people could travel abroad and especially in third world countries. They would realize just how fortunate they are to live in the United States.
This is how I stayed cool during hot summers camping on my bass boat. I carried a cotton bed sheet (single bed) and would soak it with drinking water to where it was damp, use it as a cover sheet and you will be shivering by morning. It works very good in W. Texas so I know it will work in the areas you are traveling!
Your wife is so adorable! I can see why you married her! Thank you for answering our questions and introducing your wife. Looking forward to future videos with her.
Absolute soulmates....truly blessed. As are we for getting to share it with you...grateful, thx! It enriches my life seeing yours, and calms my spirit....allows the stress to melt away and make room for something good to come into my own world!
I admire your perspective on life and relationships. You complement one another immensely...a wonderful balance of respect and love. Best wishes for an adventurous and joyful life together.
I discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago and I'm really enjoying your adventurous spirit, your chill attitude towards life (that time your car slid into the ditch in Yosemite, you said you were in a bad mood but you were still smiling), and your enthusiasm for the beauty of nature and the cultures who came before us. I think I smile the whole time I'm watching one of your videos. I think Cassie is strong and independent in her own way. I love that she lets you be you and do what you love. I hope you are both as deeply in love with each other as you were when you made this video.
I have to say, what a beautiful personality your wife has. It seems like you guys are made for each other. Love the compassion and respect you two have. Wishing you two manny splendid unforgettable adventures together.

Thank God they are genuine to the bone and won't go Insta-glam Vanlife fake...although if they dabbled in overlander vanlife they would have 8ook subs for sure!
I'll second that, you are a lucky guy. I was interested in your comment re the Anasazi. I'm an old timer Englishman who has travelled extensively throughout the four corners area. Both Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde, amongst other areas. I would concur with your suggestion that drought was probably the main reason they assimilated with other tribes, no longer able to exist in those areas. I also would suggest, over population might have also been a factor. Still fascinated by their existence however. I subscribed to your channel recently and enjoy your relaxed manner. Thankyou.
I love the honesty in your answers to the questions. Most people don't get the fact that what works for You may not work for others. We just found your channel, and subscribed too, very interesting, very laid-back and more to our liking so your channel is very refreshing and with lots of good scenery, no loud music, and none of that nonsense here. Glad we found you, will be looking at your older videos, and looking forward to more. Congratulation on the marriage!!! Even tho it was 2 yrs ago. lol Everyday is a good day, when you are sharing it with someone you love. jmho
Cassie is awesome!!! Beautiful, smart and supports your hobbies and dreams. I’ve watched numerous videos with y’all and you support her just as much. Now if the rest of the ladies out there could catch on lol!!! Have fun you two!!!
I am a loner too. I get excited about new places and experiences. I love to travel and am planning to start traveling in the next year. Your videos inspire me. Best of luck and love to you and your wife. And thank you for your excellent videos.
OMGOSH, you two are SOOO cute together. What admiration you show for each other. Thank you for all the answers to the questions and for introducing (sharing) Cassie with us.
we had the best few years 'RVing' in a RAV4 - it was perfect! We were based out of SLC and explored the state and California a ton. It was fantastic. Once our son came along we got a trailer and that was fun too, but different. We couldn't get to all the same places but we stayed small so still got to some awesome places. We could stay longer though, the bonus of water tanks! But man I'm so glad we did our RAV4 RVing! We will again someday I'm sure! We did find that our friend's 4runner was actually tighter in the back...but definitely better clearance!
I know this is an old post. But,👍👍 for Baja. In 2000, we went halfway down the west side, then up the east side, camping out of a 98 Mazda MPV All Sport 4 wheel/all-wheel drive, no low range and open diffs. It was an amazing trip. The best memory is seeing a fox running on the beach. 20yrs hence, it's still vivid in my mind.
My wife and I are 69yrs old and we’re not physically able to do the big hikes you do, and that’s what I enjoy most about your videos. You show us the places we’d like to see. Thank you & well done 👍👏👏
What a beautiful couple. The love you have for each other is jumping out of the video. ❤️ Acceptance of each others strengths and weaknesses and allowing each other to be who you really are is the key . I really enjoy watching your videos. They are so relaxing, no false pretences. These other hyped up videos of “Hi Guys, What’s Up?” Drive me crazy. Your videos feel like you are sitting in my lounge room having a chat. Looking forward to more videos 🙏😀
Thanks for the kind words! She's the best 🙂 My style of videos isn't for everyone, but that's ok. It's good to know there are others like me out there!
Just found your channel a few days ago and have been enjoying your videos. Cassie is beautiful and it is great to see how y'all interact with each other. Also, thanks for always putting coordinates where you boondock. So many other YTers don't do that so it is greatly appreciated!
What a great wife, Cassie. I am soo envious, or is that covetous? Beautiful and articulate, I love her. You two seem to be very good together. You make a great couple.
Great video! Really enjoyed getting to know you better this way. Lots of good questions all around. Your wife is sweet, best wishes to you both for many happy years and travels together!
It was great getting to meet your wife. I'm late to the party but, oh well. You two really seem meant for each other! It's a wonderful thing to see 😀 I wish you both a lifetime of wonderful hiking experiences, and all kinds of married experiences. Who knows what cool stuff life has in store? And I've found that even tough times can become fond memories when you look back on them many years later and realize how you helped each other through ...
When I was camping out in my car in New Hampshire I had a queen size down comforter that I got on sale in the summer and when it was very cold I had a full-length Beaver coat that I purchased from a thrift shop for $200. And it was plenty more between the down and the fur I can see why people bought these things when they were first settling this country
What a nice couple you are... my wife and i met while working summer jobs as a 20 year olds in the chanel islands got married after a few months in London UK everyone said it wouldnt last because we got married so quick and here we are living in the mountains of Catalunya Spain 53 years later sitting under olive trees and she has not changed as a person for all these years ..did i win the lottery...have a great life together ...
You two are a super cute couple, God bless your marriage. *Do you get lonely? No Will you partner with other RV live people? No Are you scare in the middle of nowhere? No Would you move a big city? No ...* He is happy people and doesn’t need public approval 😂
I just got a hightop Promaster, the 136 wheel base which is the shorter one.. I will miss the higher ground clearance. I have always had 4x4 or Subaru Outback and love them. But now I am 76 and need to be able to stand up:) But I will still be a boondocker! I love watching your travels and hikes and have been following you for a long time:) Love the off the beaten path places too. I can see you in Iceland and New Zealand for sure. You and your wife are so loving together:)
Got me thingking SUV over a Van.....Highlander Hybrid AWD with a 2.5" lift and tow package! Thanks for the Ideas! The Great flood took out the Anastasia....and Dinos! not crocks, rats and roaches though! Love the way you honor your Wife, Soon you both will have your own travel adventure channel! ....climb every mountain....Sound of Music playing in the background....so sweet
You both are so darn wonderful I can see your love and being together. Thank you for sharing your life together. I am hoping and looking forward to seeing you both whenever you want to share. I wish you both a wonderful life. God Bless
Aw, thanks! She's pretty great, and we're really happy now that the dust has cleared post-wedding and we're settled into our new place. Thanks Chris Tina!
very nice. Now that you live in Colorado, have you hiked/climbed Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park? It was an incredible adventure with my wife. We have also backpacked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon three times including our 40th Anniversary. Tenting it at the bottom when the water main broke was the ultimate adventure. It was real cool to see how people you meet along the trail start watching out for each other when emergencies arise. I hope you and your wife can enjoy more adventures together.
Doing what you like to do and not what others want to see has made you the success that you are. Some videos I fast forward or skip but I just can’t do that with yours. Your content is sooo good I can’t miss a blink. I sometimes go back and watch again. Lol
The power box in the background (between you and your wife) is stunning and very beautiful... the gray tones shimmer like the rings of Saturn... its stealthy stark silence slightly disturbed by a low pitch oscillating hum suggesting great power within. That indeed is a gem. Keep it.
As you are new married we are older new retired people in Arizona great to see your are outside enjoying yourselves, most of the areas we went as kids is now fully of people and noise from off road 4 wheels rigs, thanks for sharing your places , remember pack out what you brought in also if needed pack out others crap left behind.
Your wife is really cool. Glad she lets you go out and do the things that you do. And she is very pretty. I hope you two will grow old together and share many wonderful adventures.
There absolutely are beautiful places on the east coast. No question. They're just 2000 miles away from me, and I have to cross the flat, uninteresting (to me) part of the country to get there.
SUV RVing I drive truck and spend more time than I’d like in the uninteresting flat part. Lol. I plan on going to Overland Expo West one of these yrs and then explore more of Az. I lived in NM and explored it, but didn’t get to Az.
I just stumbled on your channel. Loved this one with your lovely wife. You are a little different around her. but that is a good thing. Enjoy your travels and your life. Make the most of being young and alive.
1) I love the channel! I like that you venture off the beaten path, keep it simple and humble, and share your adventures 2) you and your wife are adorable! All the best to you both. 3) I made sure to watch the entire video before asking lol, but here's a question no one asked - what's your basic pack for a brief hike while you're out? I know you have water purification drops, your phone with Gaia, I'm assuming some protein bars or snacks, but any other key items you think you should always have on you when solo and in remote areas? Bear spray, first aid kit, etc?? Thx for all your input and suggestions! I'm retiring next week, finishing my van in August and heading west! Safe travels and keep the videos coming!
Awwww you two are so cute!!!! :) What an amazing gift to travel when you were so young and live in other countries. Great Q & A and getting to know you a little better. Peru is on my list, maybe next year but I won't be climbing any mountains ... LOL!!
Both Banff and Alaska are wonderful places. I lived in Fairbanks, AK for 3 years in the Army. Brutal cold and unforgiving wilderness, but worth every moment (even in the Army). I'm one of the strange people that would love to retire in Alaska. Banff National Forest is perfection. Banff, Alberta, Canada is an interesting cultural town. I was there in 1999. I've always wanted to go back.
Tim, make sure you make it to Teton National Park, they are truly THE most beautiful mountains in the U. S! Jackson Hole is a fun town as well, go to the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, the bar stools are saddles. There are lots of places you can boon dock just outside the park. However check the weather, snow may still be there, so go later in your trip. Yellowstone west entrance is open April 19. Zion NP will be wonderful starting this month but crowded. But the scenery is also beautiful. Great rv park just outside, if you make it up thru utah, let us know. We are just south of salt lake. We are camping outside of Zion first week in april
Your lucky to find a beautiful women who loves the outdoors and so is she to find a guy who is a great video explorer who provides video vacations for us who are older and cannot do this anymore. Thanks!
On my honeymoon (over 43 years ago) we started in south-central Nebraska, drove north to Lewis & Clark Lake, then turned west. We stayed in hotels along the way, but the only place I could reserve in Yellowstone was this tiny plywood "cabin" barely big enough for one bed. That was as close to camping as we got. We married in late August, so we were at end of season. At the big lodge at Crater Lake the cook must have gone home for the season. So eating in the lodge's restaurant was another form of roughing it. In my youth I did quite a bit of hiking, backpacking, etc. My sweetheart said, "Oh I like camping." But then she didn't mean the kind of camping I did. I lost her to cancer this January, and I've been getting back into hiking. I've been going extreme--such as hiking the west flank of Pikes Peak in the middle of the night, by the light of the full moon. Ordered a new video camera Monday and it should arrive this afternoon. The SiOnyx Aurora, which has an ISO equivalent of 812,000. So I'll be able to document my midnight frolics, skipping through boulder fields above 12,000 feet. I should check the weather forecast, but if good I'll go again this Friday/Saturday. Then home in time for Trick-or-Treat.
Aw, your wife is so sweet. You two make such a good couple. I look forward to seeing more of your trips. Your videos are always so interesting and peaceful to me.
great questions from everyone. your answer to “what about your videos do you like that would make you want to watch as a viewer” is exactly why i love your videos. chill, off the beaten path stuff. Cassie is beautiful and so sweet! you two are very cute together.
Hi Tristan, I am enjoying your channel. I like your vehicle tour interview style where you let the nomad describe their rig, etc. Also your travel videos are awesome. Now i have put Idaho and Montana on my bucket lists. Keep up the great work. Safe and happy travels to you.
One thing I like is that you don't have background music. I like just listening to the outdoors and you explaining what you see.
Tristan you've found a delightful life partner, I pray many blessings continue for you both.
These questions about no cell service areas and getting lost. I'm old enough to remember hiking in these remote places long before mobile phones and a GPS. Always carry a paper map, compass and know how to use them.
Ive been hiking for 30yrs with a compass, and paper map (TOPO.) No issues.
what is this "paper map and compass".... LOL. That is how I learned over 40 years ago. But my InReach Mini GPS is way easier than triangulating off of hills that may or may not be what I think they are! And it works at night, too.
Yes. Learned that in Scouts! But scouting isn't cool anymore, is it?
I agree. Everyone should have a backup. I would add Phone gps works even without cell service. The maps have to be downloaded prior to losing service however. Know which direction your vehicle is and have a plan to get out if your phone dies. Memorize the area well enough to get back to a road.

Yes she is :) Thanks Carolena!

She is so sweet. You are a lucky dog. She is lucky too.
Your wife is really cool. Glad she lets you go out and do the things that you do. And she is very pretty. I hope you two will grow old together and share many wonderful adventures.
Yep, she's great! Thanks John.
Mr. and Mrs. SUVrving are really a sweet couple, I wish them a lifetime of peace and happiness and wonderful travel adventures.
What beautiful couple 🙏🏻 Blessings in all your travels~~
oh, yes!!! Iceland and New Zealand the two places I most want to travel to
I’m from Pa, I agree, the West is beautiful. But there are some beautiful place on the east coast. Like the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cooks forest.
U2 are ABSOLUTELY LOVELY😍 God Bless U Both❣️
Thanks Melissa :)
Great meeting Cassie, nice couple!
She’s articulate, humble and intelligent.
1) I love the channel! I like that you venture off the beaten path, keep it simple and humble, and share your adventures
2) you and your wife are adorable!
What an amazing gift to travel when you were so young and live in other countries. Great Q & A and getting to know you a little better. Peru is on my list, maybe next year but I won't be climbing any mountains ... LOL!!
Thanks! And yeah, there's lots of awesome non-mountain stuff in Peru too :)
Did you ever go to Peru?
The west is where it's at! So much to see. I really enjoy your channel. Thanks for bringing us along!
Thanks for watching!
You're a lovely young couple. Congratulations and wishing you two all the best.
What an adorable wife you have. And together you make such a lovely couple.
Thanks!
You’re a relatable guy to me in many ways. Great vid and thanks!
Thanks for watching!
You are doing very well, business, health, spiritual, love, I wish you many many years of this wonderful abundance to continue!
Thanks so much!
You guys are too cute. She is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing.
Yes she is :) Thanks Yvette!
This video makes me want to travel more than I have. There’s more than 100 lifetimes of things to see in the world!
Your lucky to find a beautiful women who loves the outdoors and so is she to find a guy who is a great video explorer who provides video vacations for us who are older and cannot do this anymore. Thanks!
Thank you for share with us all those beautiful places. Some people can't travel. Its like we are with you in those places, Thanks again.
Thanks Monica!
I lived in Grand Junction from 2011 and 2014, beautiful place to live we went exploring every weekend, so much natural beauty to see!
You guys are so cute together. Many happy years.
Thanks John!

Yep, she's great :) Thanks for watching and commenting (and for your question)!
Ha! Ogden.... not laughing at Ogden. Just thought those mountains looked familiar. Again, great stuff.
great questions from everyone. your answer to “what about your videos do you like that would make you want to watch as a viewer” is exactly why i love your videos. chill, off the beaten path stuff.
Cassie is beautiful and so sweet! you two are very cute together.
Thanks Ellie!
Hi Tristan, I am enjoying your channel. I like your vehicle tour interview style where you let the nomad describe their rig, etc. Also your travel videos are awesome. Now i have put Idaho and Montana on my bucket lists. Keep up the great work. Safe and happy travels to you.
Awe! So happy for you two.
Thanks Donna!
