Personally i feel the style and music within Sonic Adventure 2 more than make up for the lack of hub world. Adventure 2 is what solidified what Modern Sonic was. (Adventure 1 is also amazing in its own right)
One thing that bothers me when people judge Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 is that they're judging the graphics and the animations by today's standards. Technology has evolved a lot, and yeah, nowadays it looks clunky as fuck, but back then it was comparatively quite smooth. As for the synchronisation problem of the voiceover, they've got a good "excuse". It's pretty clear the problem comes from the difference between japanese dub and english dub. And translation problems are always a bit iffy to solve.
when you find out during the final battle that shadow the hedgehog game is a part of the SA2 story (eggman tells shadow the truth after you survive in the final battle against the true boss for like 6-7 min)

Sonic Unleashed is my favorite 3D Sonic game because it's lighthearted while also being serious and it is reminiscent of the adventure games. Also the art direction and world building is amazing (I also didn't mind the Werehog).

SmashAttack64 the reason why it feels like an adventure game is because it was supposed to be Sonic adventure 3 but during development it started to become disconnected from the Adventure series so they just renamed it to Sonic unleashed.
I think I enjoyed Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 the most because it was the games that gave you the most freedom of control. Most of Modern Sonic feels like it's pushing you along the level, which can be good for high speed sections, but overall feels like passive playing. I don't understand why Mario gets praised for giving freedom of control in 3d games, but sonic gets bashed for it, even if Sonic's is nowhere near as polished. We should be encouraging the developers to improve on it, not abandon the concept entirely.

Come on with the Werehog. Cut it some slack. It wasn't as bad as everyone make it out to be. It's a basic 3D plateformer with deep beat'em up mechanics. There are some flaws to it but, overall the LD isn't as bad as Mad Space. Yes the Werehog battle music is annoying, the controls aren't precise but you can't deny that it's fun.
If I was forced to choose between the Werehog and any gimmicky stupid levels in Sonic Colours like the frustrating bouncing ones, I'd pick the Werehog any time.
also, werehog level length isn't a good argument as other sonic games have had long levels (E.X. Sonic heroes) I loved everything about unleashed, werehog was the most fun cause of different ways you could speedrun

Also, I think most of the complaints about the treasure hunting and mech stages is just from people who are inherently against the idea of having alternate gameplay styles, not that they are actually bad by their own merits or not. Only being able to detect a single emerald at a time, while a dumb decision, isn't that big a deal. The sonic/shadow stages are certainly the best ones, but the only character who actually has levels that are consistently more frustrating then fun is Rouge. To be fair, I will agree that it hasn't exactly aged well, but I don't think people should turn to hate it just because of that. Most famous video games haven't aged well, but the Sonic Adventure games are the only ones I know that seem to get negative reviews nowadays because of it. Only being able to detect a single emerald at a time, while a dumb decision, isn't that big a deal. The sonic/shadow stages are certainly the best ones, but the only character who actually has levels that are consistently more frustrating then fun is Rouge.

tu amigo tapu koko: I already said that the fact the radar only shows one emerald is a dumb choice and a step back from Adventure 1, but again, it's not a huge deal: If you are playiing the treasure hunting stages to rush through them then you aren't going to enjoy them anyways.
To be fair, I will agree that it hasn't exactly aged well, but I don't think people should turn to hate it just because of that.
Most famous video games haven't aged well, but the Sonic Adventure games are the only ones I know that seem to get negative reviews nowadays because of it.
I mean, the original Genesis games have aged badly as well, yet barely anybody hates on those.
I love how in story part you did the fact that english voice lines were longer than japanese so they would come out on each other

While I would admit that SA2 story isn’t perfect but at least it had some depth and meaning.
