Personally i feel the style and music within Sonic Adventure 2 more than make up for the lack of hub world. Adventure 2 is what solidified what Modern Sonic was.
(Adventure 1 is also amazing in its own right)
One thing that bothers me when people judge Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 is that they're judging the graphics and the animations by today's standards. Technology has evolved a lot, and yeah, nowadays it looks clunky as fuck, but back then it was comparatively quite smooth.
As for the synchronisation problem of the voiceover, they've got a good "excuse". It's pretty clear the problem comes from the difference between japanese dub and english dub. And translation problems are always a bit iffy to solve.
I love how he made them talk over eachother like in the actual game 🤣

I actually loved my Chaos as a kid, like they were my own children. I bought them all the good stuff from the black market in the kindergarten and had them do a lot of kung Fu and race each other and wow, this all sounds illegal now that I think about it

Sonic Colors is the only 3D Sonic game I like.
Sonic Unleashed is the fastest Sonic has ever gone (games) and (for me) It's the best Modern Sonic game
I think I enjoyed Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 the most because it was the games that gave you the most freedom of control. Most of Modern Sonic feels like it's pushing you along the level, which can be good for high speed sections, but overall feels like passive playing. I don't understand why Mario gets praised for giving freedom of control in 3d games, but sonic gets bashed for it, even if Sonic's is nowhere near as polished. We should be encouraging the developers to improve on it, not abandon the concept entirely.

That's what im saying, I thought the sonic levels were fast enough and still gave great control in this game. While going even faster in later Sonic games is very fun, it became to linear for me.

Sonic Unleashed is my favorite 3D Sonic game because it's lighthearted while also being serious and it is reminiscent of the adventure games. Also the art direction and world building is amazing (I also didn't mind the Werehog).

Xcaliber The Wise Both games look beautiful, but they pale in comparison to Unleashed because it was the only game that used the hedgehog engine to it’s fullest potential (though Colors didn’t even use the engine for it’s visuals).

SmashAttack64 the reason why it feels like an adventure game is because it was supposed to be Sonic adventure 3 but during development it started to become disconnected from the Adventure series so they just renamed it to Sonic unleashed.

I never saw Maria as a "plot device to make Shadow's character more mysterious and interesting" I saw her as more of a motivation for Shadow if anything.
SA2B is hands down still my favorite game of all time, too! This video did it justice, I loved it so much! That story summary was gold. X'D Explains everything terrible yet lovable about this corny melodramatic game, haha
Only thing, I like the treasure levels more than the mech ones. I guess when I was little I didn't like them so much, but I guess that goes back to what you said about it depending on how much you've memorized the layout. :'D I always felt pretty meh about mech levels, though. Mastering running levels is an art...
Lastly, I'd say about 1/10 of my childhood was spent in the chao garden. If only Sega would make a new installment... Like for mobile or something, it could have $100 micro-transactions for all I care! I'd officially lock myself away from society for a good year if they ever did. >.>
