I have an established tree peony that I inherited with the purchase of my home. Every spring I looked forward to the blooms that were bigger than my hand and looked like the pink bloom you showed at the start of the video. It has a sweet floral scent.
Well my son got a puppy in the fall and it chewed down almost every branch to a nub…I was devastated.
To my surprise the following spring it put on the best display ever… full of buds that I loved watching bloom.
I realized that our pup had done a rejuvenation pruning!
So if you have an established tree peony that isn’t putting out many flowers do not be afraid to prune it back in the fall.
Thank you for a simple way of grafting tree peony. I’m used to use a branch buried beneath the soil to create a new tree.
Thanks for making this video. Super helpful and hats off to your patience for tracking it for 2 years.
Very informative content
Love this video! Thank you so much for all of your information.
I inherited a 50 year old ungrafted Taiyo tree peony from my grandma. As much as I would like another, I think I’d tear my arm off before trying to divide it. Maybe I can try grafting.
lucky you, those are beautiful.
@@clairemcconway6266 thank you. It’s gorgeous and I cherish it.
That’s me, except it was planted by my dad before I was born. He has since passed on and I want more of this plant but would never risk digging it to split.
Very interesting, thank you 🌸💚🙃
Thank you very much for your careful and clear explanation! I will try this tomorrow!
Could I graft sooner? Like in the next few weeks? ( end of April , beginning of May) we have to move my Dad from his property. He has two beautiful tree peony, and I am trying very hard to do what I can to save them for generations to come. I love this idea we have plenty of herb peonies that we can graft from.
Thanks
very well explained. well done!
Thank you this is awesome!
Ty so much
also can we graft at this method in the spring seasin??❤
Can you graft a red colour peony tree onto a pink colour peony and end up with both colours on one tree?
Thanks. When I was planting a 5 gallon size tree peony in the ground a large root broke off, so I want to graft a tree peony scion onto a tree peony root. I think herbaceous peonies will grow from root cuttings but tree peonies won't?
❤❤❤
Where do you get the top portion scion tree peony ?
Thank you for making this, it's a great video. Now I know what I've been buying in the past, they always looked a bit strange. When the scion is that much smaller than the rootstock, would it work to slice the rootstock only on one side instead of all the way across, to prevent drying out, or could that lead to rot?
You can make different types of grafts. The one I used is the one I find easiest to use.
Thank you for such a lovely video .
❤❤❤i didnt understand, shall we plant it directly after grafting in the ground or after remaining in cool temp, can some one tell me please❤❤❤????
You need to condition it first as stated at 11:42 for several weeks before planting in ground. I’ve heard you can also air layer your tree peony to make more, instead of grafting.
Could anyone answer please: is the Rostock from bushpaeony or tree paeony , from the same family paeony tree???
The rootstock is from the herbaceous peony, not from the tree peony. The scion is from the tree peony.
