I'm curious about the ants as well. I recently read that if you want to bring the blooms indoors for display you should cut the stems when the buds are beginning to show color and are soft as marshmallows. You can then shake off any ants, place the stems in water and you should have blooms in a day or two. I haven't tried it yet and would appreciate your opinion.
Tree peonies don’t have ants. Regular peonies are easy to clean of ants. Dip each one, flower head down, in a pail of slightly soapy water and shake of water. Check under the leaves at the base of the flower in case any ants are hiding there.

Just one piece of advice, at about 4:15 in you talk about shoots coming from the ground and to remove them. Tree peonies are not truly trees, they’re a perennial shrub, and can have tree peony shoots come from the ground as well. Especially in colder zones the main stem can die back completely and they’ll need to rely on new growth from the ground....suggest that anyone with a tree peony allow those ground shoots to open enough to tell if the foliage is from the tree Peony or the herbaceous nurse root before removing anything.

Wow think I want to search for these here in Maryland and see if it'll be okay if I amend my clay soil?
Such a beautiful plant. So will it bloom into several flowers, or just one "plate" size bloom per year?
This might be the answer to my prayers! I've always had peonies (my favorite flower!), but when we moved to our current home, I can't get them to grow. :( Our soil here is very sandy, so I'm not sure if that's the problem or not.
Hi I have a tree peony for the last 10 years this is the first year it hasn't bloomed the leafs have a purple rim
What kind of fertilizer do you use
Do they smell as beautiful as the herbaceous peony? That is simply beautiful! What is the max height it will get?
They do have fragrance depending on type but most do and they grow 3 - 7 feet tall. They can become pretty tall and have huge blooms. Bees love them!
Can you do a pruning video on your parents plant ?
