      Wow.
Today a cloud right outside my window looked like mount Zion...right there...big and near.
Had never seen anything like it.
And that actually led me here to watch this.
Had no idea any (other) cloud talk would be out an about..other than my own.
Let alone from Norm..and your lovely comment here now.
      All so beautiful.
      ..
Just somehow knew looking at that cloud earlier..The Holy Spirit told my Norm is in Heaven.

"The clouds looked like clouds, and nothing else." This long funeral home anecdote ended with a punchline that was wrenching and poignant, and not an actual joke. Norm had to preface the whole bit with the story of sailing for a baby seal just to set up the ending. Really astonishing to me, and brilliant.

The brilliance of his Moth joke is not the punchline but how he expands and delivers the setup. Similar to various versions of "The Aristocrats" joke, but I think better because both the setup and punchline are superior.

    • @aWomanFreed
      @aWomanFreed 2 роки тому

The Aristocrats joke is nothing like norms moth joke. In the aristocrats joke, the joke is on the audience….the punchline is quite literally that the audience is laughing at something they don’t understand. Norm was not part of that world. He was like a doctor of comedy, using laughter as medicine, not to mock his audience.

That story about the boy & the white coffin was so poignant to me & had so many layers. It could represent many things: the white coffin could represent purity & the loss of it via unforseeable circumstances. That obtrusive bus who always seems to get in our way so to speak. Also it may represent childhood & our unavoidable transition into adulthood in which we cease to posess that magical wonderment & imagination we once had. Or it can be taken in the literal sense. I heard somewhere that Norm actually had cancer at a very young age & beat it. Perhaps a part of him died along with it. As he says at the end of reading it & gets emotional "something like that happened to me". 51:03
Anyways im just pondering. Guess we'll never know now.
    Go with God old friend.

I'd like to answer the question to Norm about whether comedy is therapeutic or what? I played volleyball competitively for 25 years. It turns out I played it because I loved to play the game. I wasn't happy the entire time I was playing. Sometimes I was angry. Or frustrated. Or ecstatic. But I know I played because I loved it because at the end of tournaments that we won, I wished there was another team to play. That's why Norm was sad at the end of his sets.

What the old man needs to tell the young man isn't the speed time SEEMS to travel at. After all, it is only our perception. And even worse, it is our MEMORY of our perception. The old man should tell the young man that time DOES travel past no matter what. The end WILL come. Prepare for it. The trick to a successful life is to compromise between preparing for tomorrow and living today. It's an art not a science.

Why would you mic up the interviewer so much more effectively than the interviewee... why? And then ... why would you based the interview on a discussion with the audience and not mic up the audience? Why? Why do people organisers invite talent only to mock them with such poor production. Norm's trademark is known to be his lousy diction... he gets invited... and he is, by comparison with the loud interviewer, muted... most uncomfortable and wasteful!

How about taking Norm's advice: if you want to see Norm, go and see Norm. Don't moan about content filmed on a camcorder of a _talk_ he did once.
I understood every word he said and he clearly enjoyed the venue so what's the problem? Lack of studio lights, front row tracked cameras and mic booms? Pah. This was great.

@@slomofome14 Norm has talked about his serious stage fright many times and it’s the reason he went long periods without performing. I think it’s obvious in this situation that he is at least a little nervous. Look at the difference in his body language here and when he is interviewed on many late night shows for example.
