The helium escape valve is not for releasing pressure the deeper you dive in the water. Saturation divers have to stay at depths and have to come back to normal pressure in stages in a chamber. Helium being the smallest molecule, and part of the mix they breath, gets past the seals in the watch building pressure inside the watch when the chamber pressure is lowered. The crystal of the watch will eject as a result of the pressure building inside. This is why the HEV was invented. It releases pressure at about 2-3 ATM. It’s a spring loaded valve that “burps” when pressure inside builds past the spring pressure. In the water the spring holds the valve shut and the valve is sealed to a rubber gasket. As a diver goes down in the water pressure builds helping to further seal the piston against the gasket.
Very detailed and awesome review. Got lucky with this watch recently in Boston, being a Boston Bruins fan & being in town for the weekend when offered the watch it was a no brainer. Also as a small wrist guy, this watch DOES NOT feel or bulky as people make it seem and or think. This watch literally fits like a glove like you stated, I love it. Great video man, enjoyed this one.
It’s too big for you mate…you’d be better off with a 41mm two tone sub…if you need to take three links out of the bracelet that should tell you something. Nice watch tho’
I have one too I use it a lot I also went diving with it, the only problem is that the clasp is really attracting scratch, and one thing the helium escape valve is used when you do saturation diving and when you are in decompression chamber it allows the helium to escape the watch by this valve and avoid to damage the Safire by pupping out. It's really a great watch for me the sub is too small
I have the 43mm Red all Steel S.D. . On the bracelet it has a Divers EX Tension Link , a Flat Sandwich like link ! You took 3 solid links out of your two tone bracelet , BUT does this model come also with the divers extension link ,for going over rubber suit ,like on the all other steel models ? OR its Not included on a Two Tone models as will only really be for a Desk Divers Watch ?
Love the energy and your knowledge! I just got this watch and you just confirmed all my positive thoughts about it. It's a keeper for sure in my collection. Most complimented by far! Thank you for the great review and I also like how you tell us viewers what you think about the watch. Not just a review but your thoughts on a watch is always good to hear! Keep up the great work. Cheers -Troy
hi. the helium escape valve is to let gases escape when you are decompressing after a deep dive so the gasses have somewhere to go and don’t blow out the crystal. all the little i know is that they use gases in the decompression chamber after a deep dive and the helium molecules your watch is exposed to when decompressing, get past the seals on the watch and would remain inside the watch and continue to build pressure until the crystal would blow out of the watch and that what the helium escape valve does. it slows the gases to escape from the gas beside of the watch safely. i don’t believe your explanation at 7:00 minutes in your video is correct. @davidavgi
I’m 6’3 muscular athletic at 250. I have a date just 36 gold for special occasions and I love it. My AD called me and went from 2 year wait for a bat girl to 1 month later $400 under msrp for the gold 18k and best decision I made!!! Fits me perfectly!! Such a classy masculine watch and I’m so happy I didn’t go with those cheap 10k watches such as the bat girl. Best decision I made and my wife loves it as weel
