That cat made that Gretsch talk.

I love Jack's guitar break on this version. Wonder what it would have sounded like if he had been playing a Fender Telecaster instead of that Gretsch?

    Lyrics:
Oh, that little bitty teeny weeny thing they call the love bug
Nobody's ever seen it, but it's got the whole world shook up
It all started with a little bitty kiss and a hug
It's a little bitty teeny weeny thing they call the love bug
Well, I was ruling the roost, and I had all the chicks to myself
And then suddenly it happened, that funny little feeling I felt
Yeah, I tried to outrun it, but it finally caught up with me
Oh but how can I run from something that I can't see?
Oh, that little bitty teeny weeny thing they call the love bug
Nobody's ever seen it, but it's got the whole world shook up
It all started with a little bitty kiss and a hug
It's a little bitty teeny weeny thing they call the love bug
Well, I always thought that I had me a pretty good style
But I lost that race by a good old country mile
I was walking all around with my head held way up high
And then it fooled me, hit me, really took me by surprise
Oh, that little bitty teeny weeny thing they call the love bug
Nobody's ever seen it, but it's got the whole world shook up
It all started with a little bitty kiss and a hug
It's a little bitty teeny weeny thing they call the love bug
It's a little bitty teeny weeny thing they call the love bug

Possum Eyes his first # 1 hit was "White Lighting" in 1959 “Why Baby Why” went to No. 4 a few years before and “Just One More” went to No. 3, but he was itching to get a No. 1. he had Nudie [the Hollywood tailor] make him a “White Lightning” suit, and the funny thing George said about it was that he recently found it on eBay and bought it back. And he said Now, of course, I named my [brand of] Tennessee spring water “White Lightning.” It was a great song for me, and it is hard to believe that I have been doing it in my shows for 46 years!

Guitar player Jack Watkins is singing backup with George in this performance. Johnny Paycheck was not with the Jones Boys that evening... for unknown reasons.

The bassist isn't Paycheck. If you ever noticed on other Jimmy Dean videos of George, the same guy is a usually playing fiddle.

Jack Watkins solo is far superior to any other version of this song that followed.

Jack was stationed here in Belton Mo. at Richards Gabaur Air Force base in the 50’s. Jack was a friend of my Mom and Dad back then before he went to Nashville and played for and married Connie Smith.

It sounds like he was trying to imitate Buck Owens Bakersfield sound style at the time

I don’t believe this is Johnny Paycheck. It’s either after or before Paycheck. I don’t remember Johnny being that good on a guitar and plus he doesn’t look like Johnny Paycheck. This might be before he changed his name to Paycheck and therefore doesn’t look like himself.

The love bug has to be the worst insect that can give you the worst disease in the world and I mean in the world the worst disease Nothing can top the disease of love
