First Time Off-Road Basics on Burns Canyon Trail
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 січ 2019
- Finally we take my wife's 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL out and get it a little dirty along with my son 1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ. We ventured up from Pioneertown towards big bear along the Burns Canyon Trail. Since this was the first time we've had the JL off-road, I thought it was fitting to cover some basics that you might find helpful when going off-road for the first time.

Survived Burns Canyon trail yesterday coming down from Big Bear. My first off-road trip ever (went solo on this one). Wouldn't have done it or known about it if I didn't catch this video first. Thanks for the tips. It did actually took me two hours to finish.
Off-road basics - Always remember to take TP and a shovel (emergencies happen 😁)
YES! Excellent suggestion!
Yup, and a bag to carry out used TP.
Is the shovel to cover your poop with sand?

Congratulations Mrs Recon on your new JL. Great job on the trail and thanks for letting us tag along.
Brad, you had some great points on the basics, especially on packing it out. There is nothing worse that seeing trash on the trail. I also always carry a small pack with me containing the 10 essentials, just in case I need to spend an unexpected night out, or have to hike out.
A good overnight/bug out bag is an excellent item to carry!
Excellent.
One point that you and your family obviously practice is, maintaining proper following distance at all times.
Great job by all three of you.
Regards.
It’s nice to see families out Wheelin together. I have 12 yr. old twin daughters that love going out with me in my Xj when ever I go. We are in WV, and have Quite a bit of muddy, and rocky terrain here as well. I enjoy watching your videos, that is such beautiful country out there.
Nothing like making memories out on the trail with family!
How cool. That’s what my family is working towards is having our own group to go out and see it all.! Nice work on the video.
Brad, you are 1 lucky guy! A beautiful wife, beautiful Jeep and she let you have all the toys. Man, life couldn’t get any better. Love you channel.
Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge and tups, I learn every time I watch one of your videos. I take my son (12 yrs old) out whenever we get the chance and teach him what I know, and I always ensure he know that brilliance in the basics wins the day. Thanks again, safe trails and ultimate adventures to you!
Wow! She's a keeper... I mean the JL of course.
They both are!
@@TrailRecon Ya, the Cherokee was nice too, lol :)
Such a great video...as usual. Loved the tips and how you included your wife in this one. My wife loves going off road, but she leaves the driving to me...for now. Keep 'em coming.
That was fun seeing you with your wife! Enjoy!
It was a great day, we had a ton of fun!
Good advice, Brad. With more and more off-road social media pages popping up, this information is so very important for all those new Jeep owners out there looking to get out and have fun.
Thanks for information on trail basics. .......and covering that tire pressure issue!
You are welcome!
So grateful for beginner basics. Love your wife's Jeep. Looking into two door rubicon now! Thanks Brad!
What an awesome day!! Thanks for bringing us along. God bless!
I live 10 minutes from that trail !! Out there almost every weekend in my RAM truck. Great place!!
What a great way to spend some family time. Nice to see a couple generations of jeeps out on the trail, both looking really good!
Did this yesterday, great trail, amazing scenery and not too much traffic even tho it was Saturday. Thanks brad!
Nice to see a Jeep family. Great video again Brad and many thanks for sharing.
Used to run Burns Canyon from Landers to Big Bear, or Rose Mines just to cool off in the summer. Great memories of the 70's. Thanks for posting!
I'm looking forward to doing some more wheeling out there soon... lot's of fun trails in that area I think.
Excellent video as always! Great tips for new wheelers and gorgeous scenery for seasoned Jeepers. When traveling on a narrow sloped section of trail, the vehicle traveling uphill has the right of way.
Thanks a lot for this. As someone who is about to buy my first 4x4, this was great!
I’m 2 months in following your channel. It’s a great source for newbies like myself. I’ve been researching what Jeep I want to buy. Your walkthroughs have been a great source of info. I look forward getting out on the trails once I get my rubicon set up. Thank you for the great info!
Glad you are finding the videos helpful, thank you!
Loved it! Reminded me of back in to 70s; I was assigned to USS Long Beach, just back from Viet Nam, and spent my weekends at Joshua Tree. I'd told some friends about going out there, so one weekend when I had the duty, they decided to go; got snowed on at lower elevation, in the park.
Love that your wife has her own Jeep! yeeeeeah!.. also we have made that pioneertown trip quite a few times and it never fails to disappoint 👌 -Bryana
I'm looking forward to going back to that area many more times. Thanks!
I loved watching the XJ driving behind you as you were talking! It is looking so good!
It's still snowing in Chicago it's a great time to take a drive thru the snow.We got a snow storm its cool lots of jeepers in Chi town doing their thing.Love your videos keep them coming. Sat Jan 19 on my Birthday took the wife for a drive.
Really enjoy your videos, Chief. Planning a trip out to CA to visit my brother later this year and do some wheeling while there. Your videos are giving some great ideas of where to go.
Awesome Vid! Great information that is hard to come by even with all these off-road videos on youtube. Thanks for keeping all us rookies in the loop!
Thank you! We are always learning something new when out on the trail, so will try to share more as we go along.
It’s awesome that your wife is into it as well give you something to do together. amazing!
Absolute favorite channel to watch . Thanks for all you share 😁👍🏼
Thank you so much for doing this video for newbs with stock rigs
your wife is going to be a wheeling queen in no time!!! Looks like a lot of fun!! Stay safe
perfect trail wth co pilot,..thanks for sharing yr 4x4 adventure team, beautiful places n video..owesome
Really nice job going over some basics. Some of that I look at and think wow, that’s common sense, but we were all newbies at one time and it’s important to help pass along knowledge of safety and respect so we can all enjoy time out on the trails.
It’s good to see the whole family four wheeling!
It’s amazing seeing how much your channel has grown through the last couple years. Keep it up. Your videos are getting better each and every week.
Thank you! I have really enjoyed learning how to use a camera and edit video over the year.... still so much to learn.
I always enjoy your videos man, nice work!
Hi from Costa Rica 🇨🇷 Pura Vida!
Thank you!
Happy to see a 2 door Wrangler. Especially in yellow.
Brad, you’re wife is a good sport putting up with filming and “sharing” with the rest of us. However, as I start breaking in a new Jeep, I appreciate y’all’s sharing this basics review with the inter web. Excellent tips! Thank you, both (three-four, if you count four footer)! BTW, excellent production quality...
Always good to get back to basics. On a side note, I can't wait to see the XJ with fender flares!
Thanks for the tips! I’ve been on sand dunes once but will be heading to the snow for my second off road experience next week.
Inspiring ,,working on my xj 96 hopefully next year to one of these trails greeting s from Chicago North West burbs I had fun last winter with bunch of snow too,, my first time driving a 4x4 I did drive my Jeep and fixing up now getting ready for next winter awesome videos thanks for all the tips may some day I ll meet you guys to go offroading, and have fun in our jeeps God bless ya!!
Very informative video, I'm new to off roading so this helps tremendously! Thank you!
Great to hear, glad it was helpful!
@@TrailRecon- yes it is helpful thank u, all your videos are great btw!
Thank you! Stay on the trail, leave it more clean than you found it. Great mantra!
I like that you got the family involved, good to see!
Thank-you for explaining that 2H, 4H and 4L gearing! I just bought a 2018 Jeep JK Sport, 2 door soft top.
It was hilarious that you filmed yourself researching the trail @7:50. We all got a glimpse of Brads secret 007 life lol.
Haha James Bond
I enjoy your comments. And dedication.. Keep wheeling.
The Burns canyon trail is a great place to go off-roading for both the beginner and the experience drivers. We've taken our 08 RAV-4 back and forth on Burns canyon and it's different and fun every time!
Super helpful vid! Would love to see more like this for us newbies out there!
Great tips. Best tip is stay on trail and leave no trash. “Tread Lightly” as they say. Thanks for sharing.
Men i love your videos! All love from México! Keep doing great videos! And congrats on that JL looks beautiful!
Awesome family fun. This is what the whole thing is all about. New subscriber as I really find value in your videos.
Nice, love your comment on keeping the trails clean, lets keep our playground clean
I was looking for a 'basics' video. Glad the algo popped this one up! Thanks
Hope it was helpful!
Hello Brad , Glad to see your wife out on the trails. She should be in more of your videos . You always have good points on your off road basics. Always look forward to your videos . Until next time take care .
Thanks! We had such a great day out there... I think she will make an occasional appearance from time to time.
Never off roaded/Outlanded. But i want to and will with the XJ this year hopefully. Thanks for the tips
Cool video and that was an awesome location. Your wife looked like she was having a lot of fun in “her” Jeep Brad! I really like where you remounted the electrical box to the top of the winch and the KC Highlights are a classic touch!
Love the family outtings, makes me smile...and your wifey is a crack-up "...who me?" I think on the top three list....travel with a buddy:) Great post.
"Who me?" - if I had a nickel for every time my wife said that before a seatbelt jerked me backwards.... would own another JLUR! :) Awesome vid Brad, and nice to see your wife and son out and about too!
Outstanding video!!
The snow covered mountains were amazing.
You make great videos. I love watching jeep trail vids but it's so helpful when someone is sharing details for newbies. New sub.
Thank you and welcome to the channel!
Love that the wife is into that. Great video. And great JL!!!
Thank you, great video for us newbies.
The XJ is lookin good Brad 👍🇺🇸.
CONGRATS ON THE NEW JEEP
Good stuff. Nice video. On these brand new ones, turning off stop start feature, is first. Love, that two door!
Great video! I love your stuff and this was one of the more informative videos you have done.
Thank you, so glad you found it informative!
Looks like a great place. And good helpful tips.
It's an awesome place to wheel and camp!
Thanks for the 4WD tips how they work. I want to get a Jeep (maybe XJ) and this is good information for me. Thanks! This has been one of my favorite videos. Great job! I like the new name for the red XJ! Jamie is perfect.
Thank you! I’m learning here also! Appreciate it.
Thank you. Very nice family and informative video indeed.
Awesome video as usual thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you for this! I thought I had to be in Neutral to shift into 4H! Also I wasn’t sure what I could air down to in my stock JL Rubicon. Very informative!
I took good notes! Thanks Brad.
Excellent video. Thanks for the tips. Great editing too.
I’m gonna be a first timer I’m buying a Ford bronco and can’t wait I’m watching all your videos to get great information thanks keep more coming
Nicely done video, basic but helpful. I always like to bring a small stove, pot for heating water and coffee. Happy trails, JK
Love the videos everyone does awesome job great pointers of what you need to make every adventure great
Nice Brad to see your wife to put the JL to the trail test, looks like she was enjoying herself as well as your Son Cherokee XJ trailing behind. Great trail tips and suggestions as you were traveling on the trail and well taken, looking forward to another TrailRecon adventure.
Beautiful trail, great tips
I think more women would enjoy exploring the trails.
My wife and I went and done some snow wheeling in NE AR today it was a blast.
I am not a huge fan of JL's, but I love your wife's. Keep putting out great content Brad!
Another great video Brad. Love the color of the wife’s Jeep. I also have a JK that rear seat is useless...remove it for the extra space, and use a cargo net.
Thanks! If it was my Jeep, the rear seat would have been gone day 1.
Lol I’ll be removing mine for sure!
I removed the rear seat from my Jeep 2 door the day after I brought it home from the dealer, and it has never been reinstalled! The cargo net is essential. I do not all that crap in the back pulverizing me and my wife in the event of an accident!
Great job Brad, and pardon me for saying, but you have one very pretty wife!
Did this trail this last weekend and had a blast
it nice to finally see your wife driving and in the video she's better-looking don't get freaked out I married 21 years happily keep the skid plates down Windows up and looking forward this has a meaning for me and my family stay grounded stay focused and look to the Future
Awesome. You hit some great beginning points.
Another awesome video from your channel!
Now that was fun to watch!!! Great video footage and editing again (as always) I really loved seeing you and your wife out in the new JL together! She is fantastic! Although she didn't speak much I can tell she has a hell of a sense of humor and keeps you in line!! It seemed clear by the look on her face that she was in control and you were just along for the ride! She had the look on her face of "I got this"...... Great tips about wheeling and looking forward to seeing every member of your Jeep Family wheeling together. I'm so happy to see your wife isn't afraid to go out and get the new Jeep dirty!!!! Bravo!!! Oh and the XJ is looking fantastic too!
It was a fun day all around and it was fun to get both Jeeps out and explore... although I'm not a big fan of riding shotgun all day! Thanks!
LoL I get it!!
I love the videos and you are in my back yard keep up the great work
Awesome! I'm going to buy a JL soon so this was helpful!
Awesome to see the Mrs takin the Jeep out on the trail to get muddy!!! One tip I have as it was told to me is: if you have downhill assist use it, let the vehicle do the work for you, relax your foot/feet instead of working hard. Trust me it does work!!! Keep the vids comin BRAH 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Another quality video, thanks Brad and Mrs. Brad for sharing! I did enjoy the "two-pedal driving" lesson, where she almost launched you through the windshield! :)
She was having way too much fun with the two-pedal driving! LOL!
Don't forget, the lower pressure also smooths out the washboard. Learned the hard way
Another great video. Sure was a great day.
Thanks for the awesome tips!
Great video as always Brother. My wife and I were in SoCal early last year and spent some time in Joshua Tree and Pioneer town. Neat area and we love the National Parks. Unfortunately we had a rental so we stuck to the pavement. We'll be booking our 2019 Easter Jeep Safari trails in two hours, so hope to see you in Moab. God Bless and Safe Travels!
I always carry a Personal Locator Device when hiking or offroad. It works for Emergency Life and Death situations 24/7/365... weighs 16 oz and compact. As long as you have open sky it works!
