The dude knows what he is doing. Very informative , loved it
Who is that Dude and does he have his own channel?
I've been off roading 10 years but there are still some things that I've learned from this video and you are extremely humble on how you inform us and I really appreciate it. Thank you guys for an awesome video!
Before lift/tires, folks ought to look at a good set of sway bar disconnects. (Not all Wranglers come with them.) Just $100 or so is cheap insurance to keep all four wheels on the ground.
Important quote for off-roaders: "As slow as possible, but as fast as necessary" sometimes a touch of (carefully applied) momentum helps. Good video, as an off-road enthusiast I approve !!! Drove Jeeps for 10 years ('78 CJ7, '90 YJ) and an '07 Yamaha Rhino side by side for 7 years
Or like the Army. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
first timer here. best take away. Blues is the best soundtrack for off-roading.
2019 EJS MOAB
Just completed Elephant Hill and 3D trails with my 2015 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited with 33" tires and 1.5" leveling kit.
As a newbie offroad enthusiast, this video really helped a lot on the trails. Thanks for the great info.
Great video guys!
Hey Tommy, could you do a video about buying a used off roader, like what features are important to try to get, things to check like wear and tear items that aren't maybe checked when buying a car (maybe like under carriage damage, cb joints, or oil leaks.) I'd like to buy a vehicle to take on trails and would like to see a buying guide video. Thanks for the great episode.
Good advice for rookies. Some things important on mod lists are rocker panel protection, tow points front and rear, if you are about to buy your first off roader, quality all terrain tires and an air compressor. Stay away from street treds. A shovel, tow/recovery strap, and a couple of folding lawn chairs. Nice to sometimes sit at an obstacle and watch how others do it. Have fun and be safe. Oh yeah, first aid kit , might need a band aid.
Thanks for doing this video.. Good information..
Great instructional videos! Very helpful new Jeep owners.
Very educational. I love his straight forward teaching.
Everything you've said here is GOLD.
good job guys! thanks for the video!
Love the look of those old 4runners so much
This is good stuff guys. Thanks.
Incredibly well done video; pro grade for sure.
That 2 part deal was very important for anyone not wanting to wreck your ride....great piece for referencing the how to and not to
Great tutorial. Simple and well explained.
bring shovel and get the tall jack asap...even if you dont have a lift you can use it to lift the truck up and put stuff under the wheels if needed...more importantly go with another truck and a tow strap if you dont have a winch
Also for mud and snow situations: Good rubber foot mats. If you get stuck in mud or snow, drop two down in front of tires with power and that should be enough to get you out.
As a newbie I really appreciate your great advice.
love it, I wish there are more videos like this.
Thanks for the tips in this video
Great video . L learned so much.
Never gone rock-climbing and likely never will, but its still a fascinating pass-time especially to learn how it works.
Good stuff, thank you!
Excellent sir.very well explained.Thank u .
Very helpful as I look for my first Jeep ever. Thanks for this!!
@515 Jeep Guy nice! Not yet.. should be buying it in Jan.
“Is your butt pretty clenched?” Love this channel. Good work and very informative.
Great Video. the only thing I think that was left out was on the safety part. make sure your wearing your seat belt and that it is adjusted properly. so it is not cutting in to your neck or below your shoulder, also keeping your hands and arms inside the window. if it rolls over it will take your finger off, and its not like you will be able to stop with your arm. anyway awesome video. how did you like that Rubicon hard rock? I have had mine for about a year, and I love it.
Great videos guys - question, I see you guys going all over in the Rubicon JK - did the YJ's go there as well? What setup are the Wranglers? Engines and diffs/gearing? Thanks!
Great video
what about using the techtronic feature in the an automatic shifter when going off roading? does that help?
Good video and keep doing mashup review 0-60 MPH videos ok because those are my favorite
Good tips
Dude did a great job
I need a jeep going crazy without one lol
Yes, you do.
Same im going for a 2016 jeep cherokee limited V6
Wondering what happened to Tommy's YJ?
What trail is that in Moab?
When off road, do you leave your front locker engaged? Or do you only engage it when necessary? Does the front locker make it hard to steer?
Which trail is this in Moab?
Can you use compression breaking with a manual transmission?
What radios do you use?
When descending, why not just cut the wheel? Is that dangerous to do?
What axles under there?!
Now what about a 4 cylinder jeep, what would be the best lift kit?
Paul Figas a lift kit is a lift kit no matter the engine type, I have a 2" cheap no name lift on my 99tj 2.5L and it's the same as putting it on a 4.0
But if you're lifting it for larger tires, remember, that will change your effective gear ratio, and could feel pretty sluggish on the highway.
What is top speed you can do in 4 high?
110-115
Thinking if you are going over 25 mph...probably do not need 4 wheel drive anything.
When your using an auto off-roading can't you just use the 1st and 2and or L that locks you in 1st gear like my 05 f150 has P, N, R, D, 2, 1.
+Shawn Prickett Depends. When I wheeled with an auto, most the time I left it in drive, only downshifting when descending a hill.
+Donald Weber yeah that is what I meant when you descending or going over big objects so you don't fling forward.
you could. also the auto wrangler have a manual option where you can shift up or down through all the gears by moving the floor shifter to the left or right
How do I know when I should clench my butt?
that just comes with experience
usually after u made a mistake eating beans 45 mins ago and now its ready to go to a septic tank
When the jeep is upside down...
U just know. 😂
You'll know!
Complete newbies need more explanation xD
Is the Rubicon less capable than the regular Jeep, or is it about the same?
The Rubicon is more capable, stronger front axle(for bigger tires and more stress), front and rear locking diffs(for more traction), and sway bar disconnects(for more articulation/traction.
It's the top Jeep you can get and the best offroader in Wranglers
If the driver is new the Rubicon model makes the driver less capable IMO, that equils more broken parts and in most cases unsafe, I would recomend learning to drive without all the extras turned on, 1 part jeep, 9 parts driver, not the other way around
@@capnspicy5565 Does not compute. Technology makes things more capable. Your grandma could do 1g around the track in a modern Corvette. Something unheard of from the same vehicle 30 years ago.
@@krane15 Can you tell me why are there so many wrecked modern Corvettes? I can... It's drivers that think technology will fill the gaps.
Why are yo so close to wheel? Just wondering :)
+Kaleman Robbie Watch episode 1
+Kaleman Robbie Nick explains in part 1: ua-cam.com/video/IW537gsR5n4/v-deo.html
The Fast Lane Car Oke i watched, i can understand his point of view, but i disagree. Maybe because im bigger and can watch higher over the steering wheel. Im over 6 feet :) Tanks for the link :)
He answered that in volume 1.

Unfortunately, many members of Congress (2/3? 3/4?) have no idea what you are doing with 4WD vehicles. Many (almost all) of them are under pressure to close all parts of the country to vehicular usage - with the possible exception of where there are existing roads. When they hear or read about “off-roading”, the image that language brings to their minds is people driving vehicles where no one has driven before or/and doing damage to the esthetics or the environment.
Even worse, many of those members of Congress need nothing more than for you to say that the route you are driving is not a road - and they consider that to be an adequate reason to close that route to all vehicular - or at least all motorized - usage.
If you care about keeping public roads on public land open to the public, please consider that, even before there were motor vehicles, a route that had been used and reused by full-size vehicles was considered a road. A route that had been used by smaller vehicles was usually called a “trail”. Wheeled vehicles were considered full-size if they had a track of 8-feet 4-1/2-inches or more. 8-feet 4-1/2-inches was the track width of the vast majority of vehicles that were pulled by teams of horses. One of the ‘49ers, for example, described the road his party was traversing as being “composed of equal parts of mud and boulders.”
For that reason, it is reasonable (not merely arbitrary on the part of 4WD aficionados) to insist that a road is a road regardless of how a government agent or government agency may try to re-define that word. This strategy, however, has some possibility of helping to keep public roads on public land open to the public ONLY to the extent that owners of 4WD vehicles (and the businesses that provide services to the owners of 4WD vehicles) are careful to refer to roads as roads - not as trails. A road may be an unpaved road, a gravel road, a dirt road, a rocky road, an unimproved road or even an unmaintained road but it is still a road.
If people want to disagree with me about HOW important it is to refer to roads as roads, that’s OK. I suspect it is more important than most 4WD owners realize.
He knows off road but was just selling the Rubicon when asked about what mods to do on your vehicle smh
Which is not to say that still doesn't have a point. He gave the weekend mechanic their credit too.
Can we be less Jeep specific?
Waaaaaaaaaa! Quit being a bitchy little princess. This info applies to ALL off-road vehicles.
there are just some things your camry won't do
More Subaru.....Geo tracker....audi all wheel drive? What floats your boat?
@@231mac Whenever he says Jeep just insert whatever 4-wheel drive vehicle you prefer.
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:5)
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest. (Psalms 51:1-4)
Good information in the video. So............ why have the newbie guy in the passenger seat look so young and nerdy? Not knocking his looks, it is what it is, but it is a stereotype. The "Motorhead" guy with the sweat shirt, five o'clock shadow and Olive Drab Jeep hat with rough torn brim teaches the young kid with glasses, no facial hair to speak of, plaid buttoned up shirt and newish baseball cap. Come on, so cliche.
They both know a lot about off roading, they younger guy is just asking questions for the viewer and playing devils advocate
