With all the work involved in this job, why did you not also replace those figure 8 o-rings, and the other o-rings (oil passageways) that you see still stuck in the recesses of the valve cover (in the shots where you show the spark plug tube gaskets)? Those are equally old/hard.
Also, in general, silicone (assuming you meant an RTV style) is not needed with these types of modern, rubber o-ring style gaskets. It can actually prevent a good seal. It's only recommended in sharp corners (or where two surfaces meet, mid gasket), and just a small dab (not a thin smearing). This vehicle does not have sharp corners (like with a timing belt, where the cam has to exit the head through round openings - creating sharp corners).
Fel-Pro (and others) speak to this on their web pages.
Not trying to be critical, just inform others - thank you for the helpful video!

I bought the fel-pro kit, so I'm not sure if it's out of spec or if they're supposed to be super tight, because the OEM gaskets were so hard to pop out, unfortunately I didn't look to see which way is the proper way.

I figured it out, the Fel-Pro spark plug tube seals are out of spec and too big, I placed the old ones back in and they fit fine, I had to order a new OEM set from the local Toyota dealership. Last time I'll waste money on non-oem product.

Was the Spark plugs of this truck getting flooded with oil? i just noticed today oil on the threads of my number 8 cylinder spark plug. Already did a compresion test on that cylinder and i got 210psi. So no rings leaking oil up. Maybe valve cover? o had no oil on the tip of the plug just on the threads. But i don't know how deep in the engine goes the plug so which gasket i have to replace to fix it.

    • @ComboedPkVids
      @ComboedPkVids  3 роки тому +1

It’s normal to see some oil on the threads of the spark plugs after years of use. We had some oil gathering up top on the spark plugs in the tube holes.
To fix oil leaking into the spark plugs/tube holes, that’s gonna be a valve cover and tube seal replacement like you see in the video. If oil is still leaking in after words you could have a warped valve cover.

If you have the slight white smoke when the car is first on for the first 10min or so, that’s normal. What I’d recommend is changing the PCV valve, very easy. $6 takes 10min to change. Also do the valve cover gaskets with the tube seals. If it’s really cold you will generally always have some smoke coming out. Do all that and you should be good to go.

    • @ComboedPkVids

TheMagogiro then it’s more than likely a sensor isn’t working or properly plugged in. Check the MAF sensor on air box make sure all clamps on air box are tight and that the throttle body harness is plugged in. Then you would have all the sensors on the valve covers you had to unplug so make sure everything’s hooked up and nothings dangling. Also put the truck into the last turn cycle before cranking and check for CEL codes

Dam I just did my oil changed and spark plug... All my spark plugs gasket are currently no good. Every plugs has oil on the coil packs and plugs. I'm only at 80k for a 2010 5.7l. I'm not sure if toyota didn't tighten good enough when they did some major work to the head and replaced some parts inside with some carb legal parts. I'm guessing that they couldn't get oem for it because that's what causing an oil leak from the value cover. At 1st they silicone the out side but it wasn't working

If there is oil leaking into one of the spark plugs can the truck shake while your driving? My truck shakes similar to when you need a tire balance but it only does it when your going 45 and 65mph.
When your at 65 and keep it steady it doesn’t shake but if you press on the gas a little it shakes. Does anyone might have an idea of what it might be?

    • @ComboedPkVids

The truck or the steering wheel? If oil is leaking in it can cause misfires and oil consumption.
Pressing on the accelerator and then shaking wouldn’t be caused by possible oil leaking past the spark plugs. If you had a bad misfire it could shutter a bit for sure.

_rae_rey_ if it’s on the tips where it sparks then changing the valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube gaskets won’t fix that. Unless oil is leaking down the spark plug through the treads but doubt that. If oil is in your combustion chamber. That’s a whole other issue.

If everything is properly put back together, unplug the battery for 10min then hook back up and see. If the light comes right back on and won’t delete with a reader then you probably messed one of the sensors up or the wiring to it pulling the covers off.

I worked on another tundra and did this job and Hs the cam sensor code come up and wouldn’t delete or anything found out that the wiring to the harness I damaged pulling the cover out. That same exact code actually, I replaced that sensor cause it was the quickest solution, it didn’t fix it so I had to get my snap on tool to find out that the computer and sensor weren’t reading so I inspected the wires connected to it and had to fix the wires I damaged and then it fixed it.
