How to grease the drive shafts u-joints on a 2007-2013 Toyota Tundra Will also apply to 2014-2021 Toyota tundras that have the grease fittings. Some don’t have it. Some u-joints don’t have the grease fittings, so there is no greasing that can be done. You can confirm that by seeing if there are fittings or not. how do you grease the slip yolk?
Bro how are you going to make a “how to” and tell ppl the wrong information. I just had to take my valve cover back apart because i found out u told me to put them in the wrong way🤦♂️if anything ur making this job harder for people just take this bullshit off UA-cam
Talking about the spark plug seals
I thought it was a 42mm
Sounds like the center carrier bearing
Thank you for making this video.
What kind of grease?
Very helpful.. thanks!
where did you source the information to use this specific grease??
What was the torque on tightening the bolts though?
10mm Bolts Torque spec: 108in-lbs, 12Nm, or around 7-9ft-lbs 12mm Center Bolt Torque spec: 15ft-lbs or 21Nm
I don’t have the torque wrench can i just tight them when they fill tight
👍
So this works for my 4.6
It doesn’t show how you put the ring in but after they were already installed
My 2010 Tundra does not have grease fittings. Now what?
Some u-joints don’t have grease fittings. If there’s no fitting, then they can’t be greased. Once the joint is bad, they need to be replaced.
Been feeling a little grind at acceleration from a dead stop, but it goes away at like 10 mph. Going to try this first before taking it to the driveline guy. Thanks 🙏🏼
Did greasing fix your issue? Going through same kind of a problem.
It ended up being totally unrelated to the driveshaft, it was loose U bolts on my rear differential 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Thanks for the reply. I ended up greasing it and the little grind at takeoff has completely gone away. Something I will be doing at every oil change from now onwards!
With all the work involved in this job, why did you not also replace those figure 8 o-rings, and the other o-rings (oil passageways) that you see still stuck in the recesses of the valve cover (in the shots where you show the spark plug tube gaskets)? Those are equally old/hard. Also, in general, silicone (assuming you meant an RTV style) is not needed with these types of modern, rubber o-ring style gaskets. It can actually prevent a good seal. It's only recommended in sharp corners (or where two surfaces meet, mid gasket), and just a small dab (not a thin smearing). This vehicle does not have sharp corners (like with a timing belt, where the cam has to exit the head through round openings - creating sharp corners). Fel-Pro (and others) speak to this on their web pages. Not trying to be critical, just inform others - thank you for the helpful video!
Great post!
The rtv definitely helps on the orings , I’d recommend it . Definitely won’t hurt those leak so often
How much does this job usually cost?
At a dealership $1500-$2000 easy
looks like your spark plug seals are in backwards
Nice! Thanks for sharing and explaining! I’ve got no complaints. 😁
I've seen people say to undo the LCA from the hub. Were you able to get the axle out pretty easily by doing the the UCA instead?
The spark plug tube seals were installed upside-down (incorrectly) in this video.
No they werent bro
Yes they sure are!
@@g37fy68wrong.
I noticed that too.😂 Did he use a steel brush on the cover?
@@sc4771 so the seals are put incorrectly just wanna make sure?
I started watching this video to find out how to remove the spark plug tube seals. That important info was totally skipped.
Hey DIY, I'm getting ready to order the cv axles for my 2009 and was wondering if there's any seal kit that I should order with it as well. Not much info on the forums, thanks!
What was the solution??
A vid of the other side would save my life
Mine too. Currently on the passenger side and is an absolute pain
What was the cause of the knocking in your steering wheel?
Nice video but what about the slip yoke ? It doesn’t have a grease fitting
The center carrier bearing doesn’t have a grease fitting Once it’s cracking and has a lot of play it’s bad. Possible symptoms would be vibration while accelerating
Putting denso plugs in a Toyota? I know they had a split contract with denso and ngk. But still, always go ngk on japanese engines?
Just using the oem recommendation
Denso came OEM in my tundra. NGK’s are in there now.
Can someone please tell me if a 2014 tundra center bearing can be greased, there is a hole but I can't tell if there is a fitting.
The center carrier bearing is not grease able It’s a rubber ring Once that starts to crack and or get play it’s time to replace it. If you have shacking while accelerating it could be a worn carrier bearing
Was your truck losing any coolant?
I thought it was but once I fixed the pcv the level went up and down but never had to refill
Thanks
😂
DIY I was able to do 4 of the 5 zerk fittings. Very difficult to get the grease gun fitting on the back zerk of the front 4x4 shaft. Your video cut short so how were you able to it? Also the middle zerk on the rear shaft is that a slip yoke?
Front is harder. If I remember correctly yes it is. The carrier bearing holds it up to the underbody. The front shaft is hard to get the gun on the zero fittings. Flexible end would help
buy a 90 degree adapter. it'll make ya life much easier.
Grease from above; that worked for me.
Oh man, you skipped getting the clamps off the boot!!!
Lot of fun huh lol
Most dangerous video I've seen in a while. Damn son.
Thanks man, appreciate your info.
Nice!! I just moved to Dallas as well so it looks like this mod is just what I need. Thanks!!
After two years, did you keep the mod? Any feedback on it like gains or any issues? Thank you!
Still have it, no issues. I don’t race the truck so I can’t tell if there are any gains from it. Only thing I saw from a test I did was the throttle body took longer to get hot so kept intake temps cooler longer.
@@ComboedPkVids awesome thank you brother 🤙🏽
Toyota used some cheapass valve cover gaskets shame on them 😡.
yeah,,my 2011 5.7 the same on 3 spark-plug spots,,,its only 90 thousend miles and having that problem..
What size pipe wrench did you use??
It was rather small. Not a lot of room in there to fit anything
Do you have video on noise it makes on tundra
The clanking of the tie rods? No It was more a feeling in the steering wheel
@@ComboedPkVids ok I got to figure out what’s going on with my tundra I don’t have a jack to see I got big tires on it and it makes a cling or a tap pop when I’m pulling in or out of a turn just ounce at a time
Mine is doing the same thing after replacing inner and outter. Let me know if you figure out something on it.
@@floridalife7564 you could have play in the ball joints Check upper and lower ball joints as well Sorry for late reply
@@Roam865 you hear or feel clanking after replacing tie rods? Was it there before or it just started?
3:25 mine is seized up real bad apparently. I’m prying on it, hitting it with a hammer, using punches with a hammer….nothing works. It’s just stuck. I’m about to get it towed to a shop…any suggestions from anyone?
I had trouble one time getting an axle off another vehicle before. I ended up having someone pull hard on the end while I hit it outwards with a big hammer. They make tools that can help you get axles off at your local autopart store
This is great, thank you, but how did you remove all the sensors? Do they just pop out? I need to do this to my 2010 sequoia 5.7
They will come out Just be gentle and wiggle them out Be carful not to break any and not pull on any harnesses so you don’t get any CEL
Thank you! Replacing the outer tie rods is my next week project. I am replacing the stock ones with coachbuiilders. I have searched high and low for a Tundra specific howto you are a life saver dear.
Goodluck with the install Let me know if you need help
@@ComboedPkVids I need help . Everyone says be careful of rack shaft when taking out inner tie rod . I’m wondering what all things I gotta watch out for to not ruin things doing this job .
Jack. Stands. My. Friend. Climbing under a vehicle sitting on a hydraulic Jack is adeath wish. My friend's dad died that way
I have more then enough room under it without it on anything. It’s lifted. But defiantly would be safer.
Was the Spark plugs of this truck getting flooded with oil? i just noticed today oil on the threads of my number 8 cylinder spark plug. Already did a compresion test on that cylinder and i got 210psi. So no rings leaking oil up. Maybe valve cover? o had no oil on the tip of the plug just on the threads. But i don't know how deep in the engine goes the plug so which gasket i have to replace to fix it.
It’s normal to see some oil on the threads of the spark plugs after years of use. We had some oil gathering up top on the spark plugs in the tube holes. To fix oil leaking into the spark plugs/tube holes, that’s gonna be a valve cover and tube seal replacement like you see in the video. If oil is still leaking in after words you could have a warped valve cover.
@@ComboedPkVids YEs but i replaced that single plug yesterday, and checked the new one today and it has oil again :( Maybe tube seals? Or valve steam seals? o some times see white smoke on high revs and WOT but i don't know if its just condensation. Truck pulls strong and all cylinders are on 210psi of compression
@@MrRey007 age and mileage?
@@ComboedPkVids 2015 82k bro
@@MrRey007 if you pulled the plug, and put a new one in, and there was oil on top of it, then yes, the tube seals are defiantly leaking oil. If you have the slight white smoke when the car is first on for the first 10min or so, that’s normal. What I’d recommend is changing the PCV valve, very easy. $6 takes 10min to change. Also do the valve cover gaskets with the tube seals. If it’s really cold you will generally always have some smoke coming out. Do all that and you should be good to go. Lmk if you need help
Old gaskets on mine were brittle and fell apart.
Defirnatlly a good reason to replace You know it’s bad when it crumbles off in pieces as you remove it
Wanna help me do mine? Dallas TX too!!!
If you need help, then let’s knock it out lol
If there is oil leaking into one of the spark plugs can the truck shake while your driving? My truck shakes similar to when you need a tire balance but it only does it when your going 45 and 65mph. When your at 65 and keep it steady it doesn’t shake but if you press on the gas a little it shakes. Does anyone might have an idea of what it might be?
The truck or the steering wheel? If oil is leaking in it can cause misfires and oil consumption. Pressing on the accelerator and then shaking wouldn’t be caused by possible oil leaking past the spark plugs. If you had a bad misfire it could shutter a bit for sure.
@@ComboedPkVids yes the truck. But like I said it only does it at those 2 speed limits.
Let me guess 2007 tundra double cab?
We fixed the issue. It was an ignition coil
Do you disconnect the battery when doing this?
Yes
Yes
Is it the same for the 4.7??
No
