people so mad andy does tricks his opponent can’t do, that’s literally the point of the competition. andy has all the classics too but isn’t gonna waste time when offense switches off regardless of a make. y’all hate but he’s the one putting in the work to consistently land tricks no one’s ever seen before

    • @Stem667

The problem is he was doing very similar tricks exposing one weakness ("button masher"-style combos) and then a bunch of weird tricks that were not that difficult.
If he did difficult tricks but they all were very different, no one would've minded

Ideally you want to win gracefully, by doing difficult and varied tricks that look good, and not by exploiting the same trick type over and over, esp. if it is a weird looking trick.

Andy can do all the traditional tricks too. The difference is freestyle. He brings it into all skating including his transition skating. He doesn’t see street, vert, and freestyle separately, and he is constantly creating. He is also by far one of the nicest people I have ever skated with.

@@bellofortis2020 That was a different, let alone more serious, kind of competition. It's frowned upon to do really weird tricks in a game of skate because it forces your opponent to try them, and any dope can learn a few weird tricks that they know their opponent won't be able to do. In a run-style contest you can do whatever you want and it doesn't really affect your opponents. It's a lot different.

Eric Koston was doing semi-goofy multi-trick combo grinds back in the nineties. It's bad form to do really weird stuff you know your opponent has never done (or is too long to even remember) in a game of skate. Then you're forcing them to try it, even though they have no chance. And it's boring to watch.

    • @freedomcaller

Honestly moto freestyle is kinda lame to watch now, because every trick is a backflip combo. They need to set limits on the number of backflips you can get points for in a run, it would make it way more fun to watch.

Yeah the guy is practically cheating. The stall to stall motions aren't what's difficult but replicating the order when you've only seen the series done once and haven't even had time to memorize the order. In other words && is saying "repeat after me" and then recites a 50 digit number that he's memorized. It's not the numbers that make that difficult but the random unfamiliar order of them. At it's least it's extremely bad sportsmanship.

For anyone who says that Andy just does "weird" tricks and couldn't hold a candle to any "real" pro skaters haven't watched enough of his content.
Andy chooses to do more creative tricks. He can do tre's, varial heels, switch flips etc. In his Powell video part he back smithed a 20 stair (it might have been more) handrail.
It seems that he just enjoys the more creative/freestyle side of skateboarding.
As far as this game of skate, I agree that the "coping dancing" was un-gentleman-like. But best believe he's just as good as these other pros.
As far as the 5-0 to switch crook? He probably doesn't have that locked in, best believe that if he decided to practice em, he could throw em out every try consistently.

Is that a Rock n Roll to Rock n Roll to Rock n roll? I dunno hey. anyone else think the same? hell the dude can do dark slides and natas spins so again, not hating....

Andy is an excellent skater, clearly he's able to defend well, but these combos just aren't fair to throw in a contest format like this. The strategy to win this contest is simple. Just perfect 5 tricks no one would ever think to even attempt. And surprise...your competitor won't be able to land any of them because they've never even considered it a trick before (insert shocked pikachu jpeg). I'm not against unique styles of skating. Honestly I like watching people like Andy and Winkowski skate, but in a skate contest like this, their trick selection just doesn't work. It reminds me of the BATB games where Mike V gets to do flat ground tricks. Of course Tyler Peterson can't land a flat ground handstands. So, it ultimately turns into a game of "who won rock paper scissors to decide who goes first?" since neither competitor can land the other competitor's trick.
Sorry for griping. These are fun to watch regardless, but I empathize with the skaters that have to face people with a very unique trick selection.

    • @zacktaylor1143
      @zacktaylor1143 2 роки тому

I’ll start by saying I watched this game again and I’ll take back calling Andy’s win cheesy. Although all his tricks were pretty niche, but they at least targeted different skill sets.
I would argue the point of this competition is to determine the best overall mini-ramp skater and hopefully have some exciting games in the process. I think targeting one niche skill set, like hand plants or crazy combo grinds, fails to do either of those things. It just shows that they’re competent with one skill set that no one else is practicing. That’s cheezy imo.
Most game of skate competitions generally have an unwritten rule that you start the game off with the fundamentals and work your way up to advanced tricks. Imo that’s a decent way of getting an accurate idea of who the better skater is. Landing 5 tricks that you have on lock and are pretty sure that the other guy has never practiced before is not. Not to say the sort of “niche” guys are at fault, it seems to be the status quo to hit the ground running in Mano a Mano. I think it’s stupid though.
Btw, I thought it was kind of obvious that the current ruleset/direction of these games are kind of missing the mark in terms of what this contest is supposed to achieve; as tons of other people are making the same complaint. ;)
