However what is often overlooked are the horror elements found throughout the Half Life games. In this video we take a look at the dark side of Half Life with a tour through the series darkest moments, facts and secrets. Some of these Half Life secrets are genuinely creepy and unexpected. We also take a look at some Half Life theories and general scary aspects of the games including creepy environments and the creatures inhabiting them. The reason the zombine appears to be headless is because the head is stuck in the headcrab’s “mouth” and when the headcrab is removed, the combine is decapitated and the combine can resist every now and then because the headcrab is not fully on their skull when the zombine pulls out a grenade.. it’s the combine ending their pain

Mr. Friendly was actually cut due to the engine's incapability to make the player's vision blurry. He was meant to knock off Freeman's glasses to blind him, and then, "do his thing." GabeN actually approved of Mr. Friendly being put in the game.

Well, a large part of the audience is American just as most devs in Valve it seams. You have to remember that in American mentality violence is ok, but touch the subject of sex or nudity and suddenly everyone gasps. That's one reason why Mr Friendly was more controversial than the others. While Japanese or French gamedevs wouldn't shy from that (look at the Silent Hill series and the famous Pyramid Head's behaviour) with American games you are more likely to see people skinned alive than a nipple or sexual behaviour.
Fun fact beta version of the game was meant to have darker and creepier story than release

As a Russian, she sounds anything but scared and worried, too calm, not like a person that is about to combust on re-entry. Also spacecraft should not be able to transmit anything on re-entry.

The combine refer to regular headcrabs as ‘parasites’ but refer to the special poison and fast headcrabs as ‘bioweapons’. This hints towards the combine bioengineering the base headcrabs into new forms.

I think that gman may be the next of Nihilanth'S kind. I know that he said "I am the last" but maybe, just maybe... Nihilanth was the last of his type. Maybe gman is something more. Also do you guys remember the "battle with no chance of winning", well how do you thing gman controls the creatures after the portal. But thats just a theory, a game theory. Thanks for reading

10:12 Not anymore. In the new Half Life Remake, aka Black Mesa, Xen is now a living ecosystem. It has a few more floating rocks. Xen went from isolatingly creepy to beautifully creepy, especially that headcrabs have managed to latch onto the scientists with HEV armours.
The remake known as "Black Mesa" is considered as non-canon, since it's developed by fans, not by Valve.

I like to call it a re-master.....and Black Mesa isn't telling anything different from the original its still the same story....I for one am grateful they made it, it is entirely made by fans who love the half life series and it does help at least bandage some of the wounds left over by Valve...

Due to the combine’s helmet, the headcrab can’t fully control him. The reason the zombine pulls out a grenade is the combine trying to kill himself. But the headcrab notices this and forces the combine to run towards Gordon Freeman (or any other enemy) before exploding.

The combine have been from a different home world. You can see this at the end of half-life 2 on the chapter dark energy you could see that world through the dark energy core.

Yet there are quite a lot of flaws innit.
I also found the corpses in antlion caves quite terrifying. Taken deep underground for the larvas to feast upon them. But didn’t find any secrets or story about it.
You got a few things wrong here and there.
There was a clear demonstration of headcrab transformation in HL1 and HL2 that were not shown in the video. Headcrabs are not nearly strong enough to pull one or two people barely any distance and would not throw gibs like that as it would ruin the host.
Zombies tear open the chest to from a sort of second mouth because the headcrab covers the original.
There was an opportunity to show off the much clearer reversed zombie sound that says "God help, help me!"
The zombine's head is torn apart on removal of the crab due to the massive augmentation of a combine soldier's head requiring the gas mask like face parts to act in place of a skull. (Head augments seen in an in game diagram) The mask is likely removed by the crab. The voice is the combine's vocoder and does not require the rest of the head in order to operate but does require some amount of brain function.
Xen is not the combine homeworld. It was a dimension the nihilanth and vortigaunts escaped to in order to get away from the combine. Nihilanth is a slave to the combine, vortigaunts are slave to the nihilanth.
The nihilanth says "you are man. He is not man"
The nihilanth does not release projectiles from its open head.
I would not call stalkers mutants.
Gman is probably not Gordon, it doesn't make sense when you consider the first game's choice scenario where Gordon could choose to die instead of going with gman. If Gordon was gman, he'd have to force it to make sure he ends up existing eventually.
Some more stuff:
The doll is probably not haunted, just squeaky/has a noisemaker.
The cremator was not intended to use a flamethrower. In the leak, it used a green plasma thrower to melt corpses, headcrabs, bullsquids, and other organic pests/waste to keep the streets clean.
Fun fact: gman on the tv is on a boat and the scarf looking thing is actually a crow flapping it's wings to look like a scarf in the brief time the tv remains on.
Fun fact 2: metrocops are not combine soldiers and are never seen as zombies. Metrocops are human volunteers who go unaugmented but are given authority over the citizen majority. I bring this up as a metrocop image was used while talking about zombines.

-gman is the chess master, he make a small move that have huge consequences ( the crystal, the nuclear bomb that destroy black mesa ) the combie military is repersent for pawn ( thats why they die alot, and the floting white bean die so hard ) gordon is the knight, the knight have unique pathing, and doesn't move like other character explained by the line : the right man in the wrong place can make all the differences in the world ( in chess knight is the only character that can kill the queen with no pathing problem ) in chess in order to win, you have to sacrifice, Kliener and Eli repersent the bishop ( the death of Eli is a must, in order to progress to the endgame ( not related to the avenger ) till now only hl3 will explain why his sacrifice is a must requirements ), and barney is another knight ( he has his own game half life blue shift for crying out loud )
Many of the things you mentioned are not cannon. Specifically the events of blue shift and Opposing Force (Barney being a knight, Gman planting the bomb in black mesa)

I must have played Half-Life games over 50 times and still missed a few of these cool scenes, a very cool video indeed, I never looked at Half-Life as something scary but you did a great job of pointing out many of its horrific elements,tnx.

There are actually two to three projects working on a Half Life 3 attempt.

16:18 the borealis was a missing ship in portal also. So maybe they accidentally sent it away in a giant portal, in an attempt to make better technology than their rival company, black mesa. This also be the reason their isn't half life 3 and portal 3. The developers might still be trying to find a way to tie the stories together more or combine the games all together. I am probably wrong because I've only thing I've played closet to half life is gmod and portal.
how can you play gmod and portal when portal is also part of gmod the main character of portal is a player model in gmod and there is a portal gun mod and they have the map from portal 1 and 2
