Detention was horrifying, but I really liked it. The sadness behind the horror was very effective. I recommend The Cat Lady, it was disturbing. Tokyo Dark was also very cool, though it had a couple of exposition dumps that were too long. Beholder 2 isn't a horror game as such, but that had some really disturbing and horrifying moments as well.
Sally Face, The Cat Lady, Downfall (Remake), and Lorelai are all also amazing side scrolling horror games. While the three games in the The Devil Came Though Here Trilogy (Cat Lady, Downfall, and Lorelai) are all finished and ready to play, Sally Face is an episodic game with one episode left. Its amazing and gory and wonderful. The other games deal with depression, dug use, death, and what it means to be a killer. All 4 games are wonderful.
@@fluffydumbun Sally Face isn't a Point and Click as you don't use the mouse at all, just like in all of the other games I mentioned. Lots of other people have also said Sally Faces well. If the game really was a "Point and Click" then I would have been the only one. Try playing them game yourself before saying something.
Let it be known, I think the horror genre isn’t going to survive through movies, but through games instead The ideas these horror game developers have are unbelievable. It makes you think why movie makers can’t be as creative or at least execute their ideas as well. PS Nice shout out to Oddworld btw
I completely agree. And it seems that there are more of a story line for horror games. It seems that everything that can be done with horror has already been done with movies, and a lot hasn't been explored for horror games😊
agreed but i think for films, the psychological horror concept is better.. stuff like black mirror, midsommar, hereditary, get out aren't in your face or surface scary like these games but are creepy or horrifying bc of the thoughts that what if this happened to you irl - they mess ur mind up

In my opinion, one of the best games on this list is Detention. It shows the risky things you could do in the past in Taiwan. The ending was very eerie yet heartbreaking knowing that (SPOILER ALERT) a school girl was responsible for so many deaths all because of love.
it's hard to say what the ending of little nightmares is because in six's univers it was when she ate the lady but the final thing little nightmares released was the end of the run away kids ending 🤔🤔

Inside was the best game I've ever seen since Jacksepticeye played it. It has that unique story and twisting endings. I love the storyline and journey, also the puzzles and relations. Really I want a sequel of that game

I love Limbo so much; it feels just like the settings of many of my dreams. (I wonder what that says about me…) I've never played it and have no desire to, but I watched a Let's Play of it back in 2017 and it really resonated with me. Inside is cool, too, but it didn't have the same personal effect on me when I watched it.
Some of the creators deserve more credit for making genuinely creative and twisted games with amazing storylines. I love Tim Burton but these guys put *some* of his work to shame, god damn!

I really hate and like Neverending Nightmares at the same time. It gave me nightmares when I was little. Don't ask where I found it and watched the full playthrough but I did and after that it was horrible, my little mind was so scared! The game still gives me the chills but doesn't scare me that much anymore.

abe´s odyssey was one of the first games I ever played, my mom used to play it when I was a little child and I always watched her. She gave me the controller and I was soo bad, but I think this just made me prouder when I finally played it all by myself XD
One side scroller that was pretty freaky was Oxenfree, where you and your friends try to escape a haunted island while traveling back and forward in time

And it also contains a lot of bloody and gore scenes of main character's death. For me it's the creepiest 2D game I've ever played

I'd also reccommend Downfall! It's made by the same people who made The Cat Lady, and I think it's pretty good! It can be quite gory though!!
I played the mobile demo, and it seems rlly cool.
Personally it's not the game itself that scared me in detention but more of thr atmosphere and the fear of the unknown
