I finally made it to the end! It is a very good retrospective. I can only start to imagine how much time and effort it went into this video, so massive props to you!
I enjoy these long-form retrospectives and analysis videos; they allow the subject space to breathe and flatter the viewer that we don't just want glib, base-level discussion. Terrific video, many thanks for sharing.
I really love that you extended the traditional golden age. I grew up on the dvd boxsets and I binged them all stopping around 17 or 18 when it just didn't have the same replayability
Tbh i clicked thinking "eleven hours is fucking insane i gotta see this guys deal" but knowing the actual context (ie its a series of 2-4 minute retrospectives) changes a lot lol. Gonna listen to a bit before i fall asleep for sure
" a brief retrospective" is code for 4-14 h videos at this point. I feel i could make one about a German show for English viewers that has never gotten a dub and some people would watch and proceed to learn German afterwards.
I'm 6 hours in and am happy I begun this journey - I loved the golden age of the Simpsons so much, having watched a lot of the episodes you've covered here. Was great to watch while working! Thank you 💛
I love that I’ve been working on homework and sleeping to this and it actually helps a lot 😭 I’m gonna watch more of your videos your voice is nice as a podcast keep making your videos!
I used to binge watch the simpsons as a kid, but we only had the first four seasons on dvd. So I'd rewatch those seasons over and over and then catch whatever episodes happened to be on tv. I'm a big fan of excessively long youtube videos where the creator is clearly very passionate and informed about the subject matter. This video is very nicely done, and will serve extremely well as something to listen to while I play Terraria
For 2 months I have been listening to this video to go to sleep. I say this with the utmost appreciation. Thank you for all the work you put in to this awesome Simpsons analysis. It’s kind of like falling asleep with an episode on the TV late at night. Very calming for real!
I just want to appreciate the fact that you let people know that the visuals aren't anything to really focus on bc that's simultaneously super specific and super helpful for people who put videos on in the background such as myself, great work!
I fell asleep to this for a whole night and I woke up with it still being the only thing in the queue but only 50 minutes into the video, when I was asleep for hours. How the hell is that even possible? Absolutely unsettling
The ES4 Oblivion music within the first 20 minutes so far was unexpected but highly appreciated. Let alone how you're tying the episodes together with points that stand throughout the series is making me love this retrospective
I think the incredibly distinct 3-act structure of The Call of the Simpsons is indicative of many later episodes of the show, like The Trouble with Trillions or Boy Scoutz N the Hood or The Mysterious Voyage of Our Homer. One of the things that makes the Simpsons great is that you can never tell from the first act of an episode where the hell the final act will take you. It does make no sense to go from "Homer is jealous of Flanders' RV" to "Homer is mistaken by America for Bigfoot" but that's exactly what makes the Simpsons the Simpsons.
Season 5 is my favorite. Rosebud is my favorite season 5 episode . Because it has the Ramones and the story is so solid. My all time favorite episode of the Simpsons is Grapes of Wrath. It’s the episode I first remember distinctly watching as a young kid.
Awesome video! I’m sure it took an extraordinary amount of time to put together. I love that you didn’t stop at Season 9 or 10- which some people consider to be the end of the “golden age”. And those people are wrong. Also, I like your choice of music. I’m a big Persona 5 fan too!
Great work! I love the blend of critiques and genuine love for the show, I appreciate the effort of this “Brief” retrospective. Can’t wait to see more from you in the future🩵
You know, if you think about it, any length of time is really short if you compare it to eternity, so yeah this really is a brief retrospective of the Simpsons golden age
Seasons six through twelve are my favourites. I particularly enjoy Lisa the Iconoclast, Lisa the Skeptic, Homer's Enemy, Trash of the Titans, Homerpalooza, Bart Carny, Maximum Homerdrive, Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo, Miracle on Evergreen Terrace, Monty Can't Buy Me Love, The Curse of the Flying Hellfish, Sideshow Bob's Last Gleaming, King Size Homer, Marge Be Not Proud, and Bart Sells His Soul. As always, the best episodes go beyond being merely funny and tackle some quite profound subject matter. Treehouse of Horror 8 is my favourite halloween special.
I love how it's exactly 11 hours long. good on you for making a good really long non meme video. I always watch UA-cam video's while playing wwter sort puzzle so you specifically telling me to is nice to hear

1:20:27 I just had to point out that the shot of Abe looking down at his hands before deciding to use the money for the retirement home is one of my favorite scenes in the series. It's a beautiful, human moment.
Thank you for giving Saddlestar Galatica and Homer vs Dignity proper, intelligent reviews. The Mike Skully era deserves more credit than it gets, it could still be quite a clever show. The Al Jean era (Season 15 onwards) was where the show died for me.
I saw the first 3 parts a few weeks ago, it's nice to finally cap off with the final part. Frosty chocolate milkshakes indeed! Thanks for keeping the other parts up just unlisted, by the way. I have a spoken-word playlist I sometimes put on shuffle very quietly, and they were in that, so I'll get some of the other parts more frequently than the rest of it. Honestly I wouldn't mind if part 4 were also uploaded separately (even if unlisted) so I could have them all an equal chance, heh. But yeah, you have a very relaxing voice and I appreciate this review format. Going over every single episode instead of just the standouts takes dedication, as does writing a sufficiently succinct and concise review!
47:07 "by not reducing a character to their gayness in exception of anything else" while talking about Karl, showing him onscreen with Smithers was a nice editing touch. I love a Simpsons retrospective that doesn’t just crap on anything past season 8 and actually has something to say about the show
