This is my favourite track on Analogue and a top 5 a-ha over all. i love the sounds and the distortion towards the end is epic and dark. "every time you shut your eyes it appears" gives me goose bumps. A self made gilded cage is still a cage. It seems to me like it's a slight on the Sex in the city types that do that kind of highlife scene (i mean men and women). Big brand cars or shoes and hand bags or face lifts and muscle implants etc. Except with out the actual living part of it. The song describes an almost vacuous understanding of the world but for the depictions on TV or magazines of 'successful' people who don't age. I could go on and on but i love this track and that's my take on it.
My "standard" of this beautiful and moving song is the live version from 2005 at Frognerparken... even if Morten forgot a few words; it adds a touch of vulnerability, which goes well with the song's purpose, Morten's special touch 😉, even if it's unintentional. The piano notes are delicate and captivating at the same time. The vocal harmonies between Magne and Morten are perfect. The piece begins gently and ends with a certain intensity, and this, without spectacular but very effective... 🎼"So if you're careful You won't get hurt But if your careful all the time Then what's it worth?" 🎼 So true... 🥰🎶
I agree, this is a song that has its qualities enhanced played live, and Frognerparken is an amazing concert (are you taking notes, @Matt snider? 😁). ❤
Graham Nash ( of Crosby Stills & Nash ) on backing vocals on this track. Graham Nash is also on backing vocals on the song "Over the Treetops" on the same album.
Hi Matt, I’d just like to say that you have done so much more for us A-HA fans than any other reaction channel on youtube. 99.9% of reactions to A-HA usually stop dead after take on me. I don’t understand what UA-cam’s problem is but know this I will continue to watch and react to your A-HA reactions. Thankyou for everything you do for us A-HA fans. Moving on …… COZY PRISONS reached no39 in the UK charts and was written by Magne Furuholmen and produced by A-HA and Martin Terefe. This thought provoking song offered clear proof of coldplays musical DNA as well as a fascinating and still relevant poetic snapshot of a culture of shopping addicts and health food obsessives. This track was reportedly Morten’s fave at the time. Why shouldn’t you get something back in the form of compensation for your channel you put a lot of work into it. I hope it works out. What do I think of this track - I like it a lot it has this breezy feel about it plus it’s different to what they’ve done before. Take care, happy new year and I’ll see you in 2023 😘❤️🇳🇴❤️🏴🇺🇸⛄️🎄🥶🎉
Sorry to hear about the UA-cam difficulties Matt, it seems very strange this has happened retrospectively, but hope you can get it sorted and the original reviews fully restored. As far as this track is concerned…you’ve got it spot on. Life without taking any risks may be safe but it isn’t really a life worth living in any real sense.
I took this song a step further and related it to agoraphobia. I had issues with it on and off after 9/11. Easier to stay home and not open yourself to panic/anxiety issues! Which is odd for a very social person, but that’s another story! 😂 A beautiful song! One of my favorites. Also why I love “Barely Hanging On” so much, too. As for monetizing, IMO you should have done this ages ago! ❤ But you are super kind and a good person. 😊
Agreed. If you can make a buck whilst doing something you enjoy ? Don't feel bad. Is that not the American dream ? Some get into UA-cam to be famous and rich. Good luck to them. Those folks don't generally make videos that I'd watch (or even understand). If you get rich and famous doing something for the music and the love of it, then you deserve a standing ovation. I'll be jealous but I'll stand and applaud. LOL
Oh, crazy youtube criteria on the blocked videos (both which and when)! 🙄 Do what you have to do, I hope you get it sorted out soon. Good luck with that! 🤞
"Analogue" is a great album. I missed out on it initially because some of their albums were hard to find in the wild. Ebay, Discogs, etc. have made getting physical copies easier, but I was still relying on music stores when "Lifelines" and "Analogue" came out. I do own a copy of "Analogue" now. "Cosy Prisons" and the title track are a great one-two punch back to back on the album. It's like you're listening to "Cosy Prisons" thinking you may be listening to the best track on the album and then... You're in for a treat when you react to "Analogue (All I Want)."
btw, i don't think any of us here would feel you are exploiting us or doing this for $$... plus it's not a bad thing if you earn some.... I think you deserve it... you put a lot of work into this channel and lots of people find it interesting!
Sorry you're having problems with UA-cam. It doesn't make any logical sense. Hope you continue your reactions! Cosy Prisons is a great reminder to live life!
wonderful track. Considering this was written in 2004 before social media had really taken off, and in light of the lockdowns of the last few years, it's even more relevant than it was than. As for the the copyright removals, I don't know of a reactor who hasn't had the same issues. I've had the same with fan art I've uploaded to sites that can print the images on t-shirts etc. Suddenly stuff gets removed, usually due to claims from companies that have taken over the merchandising for that particular artist or franchise. When you think about how much stuff gets uploaded to youtube every day it's not surprising that it might take a while before they catch stuff. Do what you need to!
You already know how I feel about this because we've discussed it before, but I'll reiterate here - monetise! If anybody thinks you're doing this for the money, they clearly haven't spent much time watching your videos. Those who have "know" you well enough to know that you're doing this for the love of the music and nothing else. I think people were annoyed by ads years ago, but these days it's just accepted as part of the UA-cam experience. I doubt anybody will think twice about it to be honest, and I'd happily sit through the ads without skipping if it made you a few quid doing something you enjoy. A thought for when you re-upload the muted videos - if you can edit the description of the muted originals you could put a link to the newly uploaded version so people can find it easily. Anyway - the song. I love it! It's one of my absolute favourites. I love how it doesn't have a traditional verse/chorus/verse arrangement in terms of lyrics - there's no repetition, every verse/chorus is different. It's no wonder Morten gets the words wrong, he struggles enough as it is so this one must be extra hard for him 😂
Cheers, really appreciate that (and I think you were one of the first to suggest upgrading, I remember!). And that's a great idea for adding the links to the replacement videos on the muted ones if/when I can re-upload them. And well said about the constantly evolving lyrics in this one! Great point.
It’s a real shame your content is being affected as you describe. I’ve already shared my views with you a week or so past when it was first flagged by another subscriber to the channel; that this is an automated process is a relief that you’re not being targeted specifically, but it’s your channel, I thoroughly enjoy my daily visits here and if the best workaround for you requires me to sit through a 6 second advert for chocolates or car insurance then I can live with that 😀.
Cheers, I'm really looking forward to that album overall, as I heard it has a heavier synth-presence. And right on, I'm keen to hear those in particular now!
I'm probably in the minority here but, from the first time I heard this (prior to it being released as a single), I thought this was a very dull song. The single mix is actually better to my ears - lot more going on musically. I sometimes wonder if bands approve their favoured mix on the album or if the 'improved' mix (obviously subjective) turns up courtesy of another producer later on (another example is the Boogieman remix of "Lifelines"). But, as others said, saw the live performance in London in 2005 and it was great.
Definitely upgrade, and activate maximum ad penetration. Everyone is used to being assaulted by dozens of ads on every video. So you won't be doing anything unusual. I have Premium, so won't personally regard your channel as being Minor Earth, Major Ads...

Where is Lucca, Matt? So many videos and not a sign of her. 😛 Is she still sleeping by your side or has she decided to go elsewhere? 😃 Funny, I always thought Cosy Prisons a was very simple and clear expression, easy to understand, but that is maybe because I can easily relate to it. 😜 Your thoughts were not far from what the song is about, but you were maybe taking it a little too far - at least I feel it is to be understood at a more personal level (as in psychological prisons, as you mention) and not so much at a social issue. It is another Magne song with a clear message. Unfortunately, I have to admit it is very much "about me". Not the "shopping sprees" part, though. 😁 But even if I feel the message at a very personal level, and though this is another famous fan-favourite, it is decidedly not one of my favourites at all (and feel a great inward resistance ro the "advice" 😅). And thus, in line with my earlier comments, I enjoyed it much more live than on the album.
Hey! So Lucca is normally sleeping on the chair during the videos, but during the a-ha reactions from last night, she was sleeping and purring (loudly!) inside the boxframe of my bed, lol. Not even sure how she got in there! But hopefully she’ll be back on camera next session 😎😸
I do understand what you say about the song hitting you personally, so you don’t want to hear it. That last line makes me cry every time. I think this hits a lot of us. I have a dreams I am too scared to try. It’s Magne sees into my soul. It’s a hard slap for me and it hurts. It is easier to stay in my Cozy Prison with the “What if?” then to risk failing or coming off as stupid 😞
