    I went down the hill on my residential street facing forward and saw my life flash before my eyes. I know the neighbors thought I was losing my mind as I yelled the whole way down. I’ve never prayed so hard in my life. I sat on the curb for a good 20 minutes to gain my composure. Why did decide to learn to skate on my forties. Thank you for tutorials, you’re my skating shero

    I just discovered you. I was never taught to skate. I was a street skater from childhood into my late teens, just skating the streets; steep hills, curbs, cracks, traffic etc and I had to figure it out on my own. We didn't have protective gear back then but I always felt safe because I used my instinct. I was also very comfortable on my skates because I skated every day and I have a dance background.
    Later I found a rink, but I preferred street skating and doing parkour moves on skates; jumps, spins....it's so free being outside. Loving your training videos, and I also enjoy watching the black community and their incredibly cool skate groups, and now I've pulled out my skates again years later, my muscle memory kicked in and I'm skating again, after a long time. There are no rinks where I'm at, so I'm looking forward to the local basketball court for now. Gratitude for sharing your knowledge.

    Dirty I'm sooooo glad I found your channel, I haven't skated since I was in my teens and I'm now 47 trying to relearn it, I thought oh it's like riding a bike you never forget, wrong for me I got me a pair of skates and went to the park to skate and oh boy, I found out fast I had to relearn how to skate so I thought humm ok UA-cam should have videos on it and I found a bunch but I love yours the best because you keep it real and show step by step how to learn how to skate and I kid you not everyday I go to the park to practice, I say out loud what you say and people look at me like I'm crazy lol I don't care I'm determined to learn again thanks to you for giving me the confidence to do it and i encouraged my friend to skate again, shes going to the roller ring today to skate. Thank you so much Dirty for all you do to teach people how to skate giving them the confidence they need to go for it. I found your channel a few days ago and can't stop watching your videos, your awesome! My name is Elaine!

      @@Dirtydeborahharry Thank you, I will go through your play list and watch more videos, I love them.
      That's one thing I always had since I was a child is determination, my family would always tell me I can't do something and it made me so mad I said I'll show you what I can do and I always did. Now I'm determined to relearn how to skate and I'm going to do it watching your videos. Thank you so much for all you do, it really is so very helpful to me, I always hear you say practice, practice, practice and I said yes that's what it takes alot of. Well off to practice I go!

    Had a great day today!!! I finally managed to go down a big and rough floor hill for the first time going backwards and I didn't fall over not a single time, this has been my biggest target for the last weeks and I am feeling very proud, I went very slow though but I will keep practicing to improve my speed, thanks again Deborah for your great help, your videos are the best 👍🏻❤️

    You're such a great teacher! I find understanding how to copy movements difficult, but you're so easy to understand, you really think of everything. And the energy and confidence is infectious! You make me so excited to learn roller skating :)

    I had my 1st outdoor skating adventure last weekend on an empty parking lot that LOOKED fairly level. Nope! I found out fast that there was quite a bit of incline once I had wheels on my feet. LOL. I ended up going forward, getting low & shifting my weight to go back & forth from side-to-side down the hill like I was skiing on the bunny slope. It wasn’t pretty, but it was a fun way for me to get comfortable skating on rough concrete. Plus, it was good practice for weight transitioning and finding my edges. Once I master your hill skating tutorials, my ultimate “crazy” goal is to hillbomb one of the new overpasses on the loop that goes around my tiny town. Evil Knievel-level site safety prep and all of the PPE I can possibly fit on my body first though! 😂😂😂

    I practiced this going down my sloped driveway... I abandoned it halfway to take the grass... now as I'm re-watching the video again, I figured out what I did poorly. This is why I love your UA-cam videos... I can come back over and over until I get it right!

    I feel this... I am a new skater trying in Virginia with lots hills. One day I decided to skate in my neighborhood and wasn't familiar with the area. Soon enough the road turned downhill and I thought I was done... I took a butt.. Hurt for weeks. But survived.. I love the tips in this video

    Oh my gosh you have no idea how much this helped me. I used to squat down and clench my teeth while going downhill. I was so terrified. Your video is so so comforting and helpful. It is still taking me a while to get it, but its coming along. Thank you so much! You are definitely a pro in your art; you really are. You make this look easy but I don't think it is unless you first master other things that you have covered in other videos... and I mean MASTER IT. Things like putting your weight in one specific leg, or the other one... or bending a bit forward so that you are not straight like a broom and you distribute your weight while keeping balance... I don't know. For me, the mere thought of going downhill is suicidal. It's an instant kill. And trust me I don't want to be negative let alone funny; I'd love to be able to do all that... but I just don't think my current skills provide the confidence it takes to do something soooo maniac.

    • @Dirtydeborahharry
      @Dirtydeborahharry  4 роки тому +3

      I agree. I love the fact that you recognize that there are a variety of skills involved in mastering a particular move. If you continue to follow your gut instinct and work on your primary skating skills, you will get to a point where this seems like a reasonable extension of those.

    I’m on day 5 of learning to skate and skating every day in May. Your videos have been amazing!! Day 1 and 2 I was just trying to survive, but by today I was able to actually feel my edges and transfer my weight intentionally!! I’ve been having my husband watch the videos too so he can remind me of what I’m trying to do when I start to panic 🤪 Today was the best day yet! I feel like I owe you a drink or 10 because of how amazing your videos are and how clear and simple you make the instructions. I tried to find FVSC merch to support you guys while you’re closed but didn’t see anything on the site.... thank you thank you thank you for helping me get through this quarantine and for giving me the tools to have fun learning to roller skate ❤️❤️❤️

    I loved that tutorial so much. It’s something I’ve been thinking about as a new skater who lives in a very hilly area. It just seems impossible.. but this video gives me some tools to work with. Now if only our roads were as smooth and pothole free 😅 but I’m totally trying this somewhere with a baby hill to start. One of the first injuries I had was a downhill section with a 90 degree turn at the bottom. I was in way over my head and bailed into the grass lol 😂 that took a dump on my skating experience for sure haha. Thank you! You’re the best. 🥰
