In the episode, Floor mentioned that she didn't feel comfortable to sing in pop style and the band proposed her to make it a ballad version of the song, softer and delicate. She killed it of course. Floor is amazingly good and versatile and in that show, she impressed everybody. There's another version in that same show when they performed duets. Floor with Tim sang this song too.

I’ve never heard a more versatile singer in every way one can interpret that description. I’m so glad you found Floor on this program. Not that she doesn’t show immense versatility in Nightwish, of course she does. This is another great platform where she plays with even more styles. It’s fun to see how she makes them into her own with her unique vocal signature. You mentioned Phantom with Henk Poort. That may be worth a reaction if you haven’t done it already. What really makes her great is the fact that she can add the emotions so well. There's a big risk of relying just on your technique when you're that good at it, but that wouldn't have the same effect that Floor has. Maybe if she actually had to sing something she can't "feel" herself we might see her doing great in technique but kinda "meh" emotionally. Of course that goes with anyone though.

I love how honest you are in videos, I was hesitant to watch your response to this one because it blew me away. I'm very willing to be critical and sometimes brutally so when there's a song so well received that has flaws, you earned my respect by being so real with Dimash and others' singing. The fact that you were so impressed with this performance speaks wonders. Great commentary as always.

Ken if I know that you probably don't recognize this because I'm just 1 of you many subscribers but usually the videos I comment on is the ones that in my opinion is special and not just a good singer. Well this is one of those special ones. She was great!!!
I like your review on this performance. When the first time I saw this performance I'm really impressed because it's crazy that she make this song sounds like it was her own song.
Hi Ken. You should react to her singing The Phantom of the Opera as a duet with a guy that sings opera. His name is Henk Poort and he has done Phantom of the opera in Dutch . In this show he sings a country song and sings Sound of Silence by Disturbed. Its amazing. He learned to distort his voice for Silence and he uses it in the phantom.
I understand what you mean at the end. It's easy to simultaneously focus on the emotion of her performance as well as the beauty of her voice, whereas with gaga the beauty of her voice kind of takes precedence even though she is singing emotionally too. It's because she's not going full on belting (Floor), she's strong and soft and strong and soft, just like you said.
Lady Gaga got smoked 🤣 I ‘m very proud of Floor Jansen. I’ve seen all the shows of: De beste zangers van Nederland. The phantom of the opera with Henk Poort is the best song, the high notes in the end of that song from Floor are amazing. Thank you for reviewing this song Ken.
Nothing else left to say here...she just killed it...Goddess!! :)...This version along Floor and Tim Akkerman's duet version of this song is even better than the original IMHO hands down
Floor might be one of the best female vocalists of all time IMO. I love her singing, she can do almost everything. Glad you like her Ken, listen to Phantom of the opera at Beste Zangers or like Ghost Live Score from Nightwish live 2013 at wacken, blown away performances. Keep it up Ken.
Ken, thanks for the great reaction and explanations of the various techniques that Floor employs. As a non-singer, it is very interesting to "see" what it is I am hearing. This entire TV series was great. As a Nightwish fan, I originally started watching it for Floor, but the other singers were also great. A wonderful lady by the name of Denise Hofs translated and put English subtitles on the episodes and posted them on youtube for the world to watch. I highly recommend exploring them a bit, the interactions between the singers on the couches are great. I also wonder what you think of the format of the show: 7 singers, each episode one is the focus and the others sing songs that either the "focus" wrote/performed or that has a lot of meaning to that singer. No competition, just the singers singing for each other.
Poet and the pendulum by nightwish live is great as she shows what you are talking about within a music score. And believe it or not but to round out her abilities she uses fry voice in yours is an empty hope. Floor is a vocal coach as well and she shows how to do all these within the same song as well. Truly versatile singer a true master of the craft.
In Nightwish she also always carefull builds the tension in the song, starting relatively soft, and building it up step by step, working towards that creat finale or crescendo... (see f.i. Ghost Love Score, but also in other songs)
Thanks for this reaction. Pretty much everyone I follow it is reviewing floor today. Interesting. Whether it's Phantom of the opera, this, or winner. You really have to react to her performance of winner.
I love Floor, this version is better than the origional. I love her ability to set lyrics on fire to showcase the poetry. I see this repeatedly in her performances.
Floor Jansen is a big Lady Gaga fan. Floor Jansen sings this to Emma Heesters who is the one on the couch next to the host 😍There is some pure gold on this show 😜 Floor can onley sing a song when she has an understanding of the song that makes sence to her, and when she feels the song, she kills it 🐱👤🎶👌 She did this song again on this show as a duet in another episode with Tim Akkerman a little bit fiercer 😁 By the way to do it this soft was a tip from the band behind her she said 👀🎁🌹 You forgot the little wel placed rasp when you said stuff about Belle Canto and Nightwish chops 😜😎😁
Thank you for letting me see more of Floor than her Nightwish performances. I have a long time thought she is a fantastic singer. But I was wrong. She's actually better than that.
As always Ken, I LOVE your honest, up front approach to these reaction videos. Her voice truly is captivating, almost as much as that shirt you're wearing. ;)
The guy that you said cried is Ruben. You should see/hear Floor perform a version of his song for him (same show) that she and her sister translated to English (About Love I Don't know a Thing), Deeply personal song and his reaction to it says it all :) It REALLY tugged at my heartstrings.
thanks for the detailed reaction! it's so interesting understanding what exactly she's doing throughout the song. BTW reacting to phantom, which you mentioned , would be great. i think also henk port deserves some attention too, he does a phenomenal job.
It's insane how she can go from very small and sweet sounding to pop to a freaking powerhouse of a voice while combining rock and opera in the same song. Literally one of the most versatile female singers at least the ones I have heard. She and Henk Poort knocked this season of Beste Zangers out of the park. What I am wondering tho, can you native English speakers her an odd/Dutch accent on her? She sounds very naturally when singing English to me but that might be because I hear a lot of bad English accents on a daily basis.
Floor sings in colors and emotions. Each week one performer has the others sing their music or songs close to them. Floor made most of them cry. I suggest Emma Heesters (the woman Floor was singing to) sing Strong to Floor.
Ken is someone who knows what he is talking about. His knowledge is beyond any doubt and when he thinks Floor Jansen "smoked" Lady Gaga's version, that should be considered as a really huge compliment. I totally agree with his final conclusion. Floor is so subtle and yet so clear in her expression.
When power singer go on the emotional side with their voices. I get similar feelings when Maria from "In this Moment" sang their songs acoustically versions at EMG . Check them out, it's worth your time. On that note also Aurora when she does covers she brings a lot of emotion just like here - thou the emotion might not be the same as the original song was like "God is woman" and "believer" also worth your time.
Yooo Ken, I loved that what you said "Hey Lady Gaga you gotta little run for your money"...lol...surely she does man..Floor is somethin' isn't she? Love your breakdowns by the way man and love your reactions. I honestly think your the best reactor out there. You really know your stuff and your genuine...good stuff man..
Phantom was great, it was spectacular especially for how Henk and Floor kind of duelled and traded off, but Shallow was the real revelation. Honestly I thought this kind of singing that uses so much craft but completely in service of the song was dead in the mainstream. Then again, I guess Floor isn't REALLY mainstream either. Glad she is getting well deserved attention from outside the metal world for this.
That is the most beautiful I've ever heard that song done. And I agree with you Ken.... She didn't over do it with vocal calisthenics. Thanks for sharing that bro!
With the plethora of “vocal coach” reactions to Floor polluting the internet, nice to see one of the few real analytical reactions. Hope more people come across your stuff. Not being a trained singer, it’s nice to learn about some of the technique that this amazing singer employs in her vocals.
A few other songs you should react to: Emma Heesters - Strong from Beste Zangers 2019 (written by Floor) Henk Poort - Sound of Silence from Beste Zangers 2019 Nightwish - Yours is an Empty Hope live at Wembley 2015
The Duet episode Floor did with Henk poort of phantom , she also did shalow with tim Akker man as a duet. and its not bad either. Henk actualy did the disturbed version of sound of silence. and it will blow your mind as hes an opera (baritone) singer. Something realy worth to watch .
I think she's been watching the Dimash videos ... She started very slow and smooth, so it grew ... Dimash doing students...uahuauha...Ken another overwhelming analysis!!!!
I've become obsessed with Nightwish because of Floor. Nightwish so reminds me of Renaissance a 70's classical/rock/jazz fusion band. Renaissance also had a fantastic singer Anne Haslam who like Floor had a huge range of vocal techniques.
First of al I'm really happy to get reacquainted to you in a totally different way... I listened so much to your guitar playing back in the nineties!!! Secondly, now you have to do all Floor's songs of this show. Each song is so different and yet so Floor, it's like she's giving master classes to the other singers (this however is the one which she really made her own and yes made it actually hers 😉. She also performed this as a duet cover version btw, for the same show and actually a bit unplanned).
Glad Floor performed on Beste Zangers, I had no idea how versatile her voice is. Her take on Que Se Siente was also completely unexpected and fun. I would love to see Floor do some solo work. I always felt that Lady Gaga is truly a songwriter at heart so it would be cool to see a intentional collaboration there.
So I’m not a singer. Can’t carry a tune in a bucket. But for some reason I love watching these kinds of videos, and you’re hands down one of the best reactors/teachers I’ve seen. I actually felt myself leaning toward the screen a bit, because the knowledge you dropped was both easy for a layperson like me to understand, and just plain fascinating, and you did it in such a fun, engaging way. I was actually bummed when the video ended, but I noticed you’ve done quite a few, so I’m off to binge those. A big thanks from those of us in the untalented peanut gallery. ☺️
Floor is what you might call a complete singer. She has mastered a bunch of different techniques and styles and that has liberated her expression. She is able to pick the sound that conveys the emotions she wants and she knows she can pull it off. A testament to her hard work and training.
@Ken: She did this as a duet with Tim Akkerman, on the same episode as her Phantom duet with Henk Voort. It was the final episode, and it closed with Phantom.
The song was written for Lady Gaga to sing it. And she did it well. But Floor brought out the heart and made it perfect. She is the Midas touch of the music industry

Glad you enjoyed it!
She is just awesome love her
She really is, Bazarista 323!
OMG, she's just a phenomenon
She really in, Awiner!
Thanks for the kind words, Mike!
Floor could sing the Periodic Table and get a standing ovation
I agree, HeliRy!
Best reaction for this song so far. You spoke many things what I felt about the song. Thank you
I appreciate that, LanguiYang Kamei!
I found the Nightwish video I was hoping for... Love your input and definitely love Floor!
Hope you enjoyed it!
That is the most beautiful I've ever heard that song done. And I agree with you Ken.... She didn't over do it with vocal calisthenics. Thanks for sharing that bro!
I'm glad you agree, Steve!
With the plethora of “vocal coach” reactions to Floor polluting the internet, nice to see one of the few real analytical reactions. Hope more people come across your stuff. Not being a trained singer, it’s nice to learn about some of the technique that this amazing singer employs in her vocals.
Thank you, Jesse Evans!
A few other songs you should react to:
Emma Heesters - Strong from Beste Zangers 2019 (written by Floor)
Henk Poort - Sound of Silence from Beste Zangers 2019
Nightwish - Yours is an Empty Hope live at Wembley 2015
Great choice mr Tamplin!First time I saw it here
Thanks, renovatio renovatio!
Best part of the video - "hah, this kids crying". It was so blunt, amazing.
Everything that Floor did to this song was clever and on point, she's a true artist 👌
Floor (Winner) Beate Zangers 2019
The Duet episode Floor did with Henk poort of phantom , she also did shalow with tim Akker man as a duet. and its not bad either. Henk actualy did the disturbed version of sound of silence. and it will blow your mind as hes an opera (baritone) singer.
Something realy worth to watch .
I'll have to check it out, Christina!
I think she's been watching the Dimash videos ... She started very slow and smooth, so it grew ... Dimash doing students...uahuauha...Ken another
overwhelming analysis!!!!
She also performed this as a duet cover version btw, for the same show and actually a bit unplanned).
great reaction ken
Thanks, Andrew!
it is almost unfair to pair the two voices .. Outstanding performance all around. The techniques used are showing a whole other class of singing
She is amazing, FlibbidyFleu!
Ken we love you 😭
Thanks, Isaias!
Very patiently done. Btw great reaction ken.
Thanks, Aakash!
Floor is what you might call a complete singer. She has mastered a bunch of different techniques and styles and that has liberated her expression. She is able to pick the sound that conveys the emotions she wants and she knows she can pull it off. A testament to her hard work and training.
Thank you!
Floor waded deep into the shallow in this one. Thanks for your insights.
@Ken: She did this as a duet with Tim Akkerman, on the same episode as her Phantom duet with Henk Voort. It was the final episode, and it closed with Phantom.
