She said girl because she is singing the song for Emma.
I think she sang it by accident. Floor makes a face after singing that verse.
@@slin2678 I see your point but have to disagree. Floor her face is part of the storytelling, she's always very expressive like that.
@@slin2678 no she's not, she sang it deliberately for Emma.
@@slin2678
1. Floor would never react to making a mistake.
2. Floor doesn’t make mistakes.
@@gsparkman It would rather be:
1. Floor doesn't make mistakes.
2. If Floor does a mistake, consider point 1 😝
Floor sings this for Emma Heesters, thats why she sings twice girl.
Awesome :) I figured there'd be a reason
@@UnitedRedDevils or used one of the videos that has the pre and post discussion on the couch.
@@UnitedRedDevils yeah because that's so easy as a non-Dutch person to do. Especially in a show that's only aired on the Dutch television..
@@metalheaded666 You can read english subtitles.
@@mantailuaa Often there are no english subs on these clips
I don’t think I’ve ever heard such a full sound from such a soft place, she can literally do anything
Just the fact that Floor walked on this show with absolutely nobody knowing anything about her except that she was a metal singer and then watching her violate their emotions with everything she sang was awesome to watch.
Floor did the same at Germany's "Sing meinen Song" 2022. She took the stage and ran away with it - every single session.
@@danilolapierre5610 Surely at least some of the people taking part of Sing meinen Song were aware of Floor's work in Beste Zangers, right?
Speak for yourself. I've seen her lots of times when she was singing with After Forever and Ayreon and I knew exactly what she is capable of. A lot of people in the metal scene know of her.
@@janpcs Is there a reason for you to be rude? Or is that simply your nature?
@@johnlindquist1784 If someone states that abolutely nobody knew anything about her he really means that he knew absolutely nothing about her. So he has to speak for himself and not for me. That is a fact and there is nothing rude about that. Maybe I'm more direct than you like.
Floor breaks your heart and mends it in the next second.. her voice does things to me I can't even put into words. I couldn't do it justice.
Emma (sparkly red dress) was the centre of attention for this episode. She's famous in Holland for doing covers of songs on UA-cam and she does them very well - she's a really good singer. One song she covered was Shallow in full Gaga mode. Floor decided to cover it for Emma but Floorify it. I see it as either a mother singing to her daughter or as the wise, experienced Floor passing on some guidance to the bright new talent before her. Hence "girl" twice in the lyric. I'm pretty sure this hit number one on the Dutch iTunes chart after the show aired.
Here's Emma's version

In my humble opinion, Floor is an incomparable vocalist. At times, when she's singing, I feel ready to charge into battle. And then there are times like this where her voice envelopes you like the softest of soft materials and whisks you away to heaven. She's enchanting. Thank you for another great video, Ms. Nilon.
i have seen her being compared to whitney houston, mariah carey, lady gaga, shakira or christina agiulera, but she is WAY over them.. there is no competition !
That tape ripping you hear lightly in the background? Lady Gaga packing up her Oscar to ship to Floor. ;-)
If you watch the full episode with English subtitles, you will learn that the band suggested to Floor that she sing much of this in her head voice and keep is somewhat small because of the impact she can make doing it that way. You can learn a ton about Floor by watching the subtitled episodes of Beste Zangers in which she is either singing or being sung to. Also, I bet others have commented on this, but I believe Floor sang "girl" twice because she is singing to Emma.
When Floor does the Duet with Tim she sings it with "boy"
And tim makes a slight error.
Do you searching for something more
I prefer the version with tim. But i like contrast.
The only flaw in this song is that it ends. One of the most beautiful performances I have heard in my 60+ years.
In the same series of the program is a version in a duet with Tim Akkerman in which she sings ‘boy’. She did it on purpose.
One of the guys being completely blown away is Ruben, and I think you should react to when Floor sings an English version of his highly personal song back to him (same show, About Love I don't Know a Thing). She just blows his mind with her version and though I'm not quite certain about the subtitle (I don't know Dutch), which has him saying "It's absurd how you make everything better!", I clearly heard him say absurd, and she, humble as ever says something about how it's a beautiful song and how good of a story teller he is. It hit me right in the feels. And yes, Floor is amazing!
Came to this reaction right after watching "7 Days to the Wolves" - hard to believe this is the same singer. What in incredibly versatile voice she has. She hits you in the feels every time. Every single time.
I'm still fascinated by how floor matches the vibrato speed of the e-piano.
Imagine 75% of the netherlands didnt know floor untill this show.... I am so glad I know her since like 2002 or something.
She is so damn talented. The faces of everyone made me tear up when I watched the show. So good
...worth checking out is also the "Winner" from the same show where she makes a lion cry 🤗
Yes!
She makes me cry too! Love her signing Winner.
Floor literally dropped the jaws of professional singers.
She made no mistake - she's just singing to Emma....
I so overwhelmingly prefer this version of Shallow. It is just so riveting. And even when she is belting she is holding back so much.
Marcel Fisson, the musical director for the show, recommended this stripped-down arrangement to Floor when she chose it as the song she'd sing for Emma. Floor agreed. We hear the result.
I dearly love when you close your eyes and just feel the music. And then you fine tune your attention to the voice you're attending to. That's why we love you.
Floor is THE Queen! Love this Woman ❤️
Henk Poort fell in love with Floor over the course of that shows episodes.
I know a lot of people did but it's particularly evident on his face.
How is it that Floor can strain and break my heart every time she sings? Phenomenal. Thanks for the reaction Julia!
Imagine Floor at that time being 38 singing for young Emma in this episode. The message to her is sang in this way!
🌹
She plays emotions like she’s playing a violin.
North Wales division of the nightwish army checking in looking forward to seeing this reaction personally this is the best version of this song in my opinion
Totaly agree...i don't like Lady Gaga never liked the song Shallow...then Floor sang it i cried my eyeballs out now i like it only this way
Yeah, Lady Gaga is missing a song from her Repertoire, 'cos Floor owns it now.
Floor is sing this song to Emma and she decided to make the change to personalize this rendition. Remember this show is all about singing for each other. It is not a competition. Once again the intention was to not imitate or copy what Gaga does. The band on the show suggested that she keep is small, to make it very unique and special. It was also sung in a higher key to match her sweet spot. Great job Julia. Loved it so much.
This version and Floor singing it makes me so emotional. Such an artist
Thats Floor, she can sing all you give to her... Technique, style, storytelling... floorless...
You should also react to Floor's recent cover of Heart!
HanSoloCup Love, love, love Floor’s cover of “Alone!”
Thank you, Julia. This song makes me feel the vulnerability and, honestly, fear when you first fall head over heels in love. You know you're completely at someone else's mercy, but you've gone too far to turn back, so all you can do is throw yourself into the moment. This is the definitive version of Shallow to me.
You put it out so awesomely...!
Floor has the entire toolbox and knows how to use those tools. She is such a skillful wonder and impressive artisan of her craft.
Hey Julia, no idea how long it takes Floor to decide what she's going to do, but she always make a song her own. Whether it's a Lady Gaga, a Tarja, an Anette, or anyone else song, she make it her own
I love Henks face towards the end with his "proud papa" look
Omg, I cancel all meetings just to see this LIVE.
have fun Julia, this is such a masterpiece of Floor, and totally different than most would expect. 👀💖💥💥💥🤘🏻
And I just saw, CONGRATS for 100.000 Subs. You rock Julia 🤘🤘🤘
This version of the song made me cry so hard. SO emotional! 🥺❤️
Thank you for putting into words the feelings I have for this performance, Lady Gagas version is more of a cry for help where this is an intimate whisper of shared emotions.
This is a masterclass of emotional ballad singing. She use her vocal timber as a tool to convey emotions. Excellent performance. Sorry to say, but a way better than gagas and brads "original". But hey, Merry Christmas from Finland - the home of the Santa Claus! ⛄🎅👍
hienoa!
Yes, Floor is much better than Gaga. 😏👍 She's in a league of her own, amazing voice.🌟🇫🇮
She changed it to Girl because she was singing the song for Emma Heesters. The young girl in the sparkly red top. ( A super talented singer, who you should definitely check out buy the way )
Here’s a performance from Floor that you should definitely check out Floor Jansen & RLSQ (Red Limo String Quartet) - Energize Me [Live @ Podium: Uitmarkt, 2009]
The Song starts at 2:00
It’s an outstanding performance and Floor sings without a microphone.🎉
Floor is the Master of soprano. No one compares to her styalazation.
Still longing for that day when Julia reacts to Yours Is An Empty Hope by Nightwish. 😁
Floor is amazing as always
This is going to be awesome. But even bigger shots to the feels wills occur with her performances of About Love I Don't know a Thing and Winner.
Very true Samuel. @Julia -> highly recommended like Samuels says: You'll enjoy that!
Yeah, she breaks Tim(?) with Winner, all of them were at least misty eyes but she whalloped him good with that cover.
If you don’t tear up when she sings Winner, something is not right with you
Yea they always break me. Such emotion showcased there
Yes you should watch/review both. As a father of a child who is in a wheelchair, I 😢 every time I hear Winner. They are both great songs.
Floor discussed with the Marcel Fisser Band (which serves as the house band for the show) about how she could approach the song. They came up with this "softer" approach.
She is so good with this song. So soft and glorius.
She is good with everything. She could be singing a instruction manual for a kitchen blender and it still would be awesome
@@Sandbek1973 She actually did a page from a Phone book, live, and yes, it was wonderful!
The aim of the show is that each artist is the "host" for an evening and gets to hear the others sing for them. Their songs is one of their own, one of the host's (Nemo for instance when it was for Floor) or a song that has a particular meaning.
You should definitely listen to Emma Heesters singing "strong" for Floor or Floor singing "winner" for Tim Akkerman (his brother is handicaped) to understand the last point: these performances were far beyond "these folks can sing, damn".
From an old guy (71) from the Netherlands ... Julia, Floor is one-of-a-kind for sure ... But you are too ... love the way you react on Floor's performances ... Luv and stay away from COVID-19
When she sings, it is clear that we are in the presence of true beauty and grace. Her voice connects directly to my tear ducts. Just beautiful. Love Love Love.
i love floor jansen
Since you wondered about it, in the post performance discussion Floor mentions that was actually the backing band that suggested she keeps the chorus small after she'd expressed that she wasn't sure about the performance.
I'm not into this type of music, so I didn't know this song prior. I had no prejudice/expectation going into this. And it still made my eyes self-hydrate because of how much feeling Floor managed to put into the song. Simply stunning.
Watching this.... again.... :) and absolutely loving the analysis. Floor is special, I just wish she had the same audience as Lady GAGA... Both are deserving of recognition... yet... I listen to Floor far more often.
For me, this is Floor's best setting. There are no distractions and you get to see and hear her intricately deliver her interpretation of a great song. Always different. When a video comes on with her singing solo, I stop for it.
Cheers.
You make me feel that I am hearing music for the first time. Your reactions make me happy. Great job.
Finally, some FLOOOOOR❤❤❤❤
Can never get tired of listening to Floor! I'd also like to see your reaction to Nightwish's previous vocalist Tarja Turunen.
This is the ultimate version of this song..... for sure :-)
This is what I love about Floor. We all know she can belt with absolute power. Damn, Marko could wake her up at 3am, say, "Floor, belt Ghost Love Score." And she'd nail that G sharp/A flat note like she's blinking, and roll back to sleep. Yet, what she does with Shallow is pure artistry. She takes a song that is covered over and over in the same way, and gives you a different story. She keeps it so small and fragile, as if to do otherwise would only shatter the bubble she's just absorbed us into. Just because she can belt and be a powerhouse doesn't mean a song requires that. Floor has a way of understanding emotion, storytelling, and the potential of a song to portray a specific message; and she will give that song what it needs to deliver that message, not just use it as a tool to show off her voice. The song comes first with Floor, and that's why she's so mesmerising and captivating.
Well said. 👏
Very nice react Julia and congrats with 100k subs.
Floor is able to steal your heart. I don't mind, get all the emotion back when she sings and that is quite enough for me.
Look for Vilja Lied (The merry Widow), About love I don't know a thing and Winner from the same show
Omg, I love this matter of the 12 videos for the 12 days of Christmas :-D. I hope you hear Floor's interpretation of the song "Winner", from that same show, it is for me the most emotional presentation of Floor (and in general) in the whole show.
There's a bunch of reasons I like watching your reaction videos, but I really appreciate how CRISP your own audio quality is. It doesn't distract from the source video and it allows us to enjoy both without losing audio quality on either.
Your diction is so clear that I, an italian, can understand every single word of your reactions.
And your accent is marvelous :D
Floor owns this song now. Very few can even come close to her performance. Emotionally Emma Hessters performance of Strong is pretty close though when she sang for Floor in the same series.
Floor truly is wonderful.
Henk Poort singing Noelia on Beste Zangers is amazing. Please give it a listen.
expressive personified sunshine + great accent + awesome knowledge = wonderful reaction channel
A beautiful performance.
From the first line, "Tell me something girl" I loved her consistent breathing and breathy tone on the word "girl". It caught me unawares and held me.
True skill and talent in singing makes songs better and more impacting, always.
Absolutely fabulous i get shivers throughout it . Floor works hard on songs to get it right .Example When Tuomas gave Floor the lyrics and melodies for Human II Nature she looked at them and said im going to have to take this away to work on them awhile.well before doing them with the band. She worked on all the songs for this program with the house band .Dedication to excellence
Outstanding reaction and break down. I appreciate the text you add during the performance. Thank you .
Thank you, Julia. It may be interesting to you that Floors version of the song straight hit #1 on the charts in the Netherlands shortly after the episode of the show aired.
To quote Chase...Floor doing Floor things.
Hey Floor wanna do "Shallow" . It's a pretty good song.
Floor: " Sure, how magnificent do you want it? Never mind , I'll just redefine it...completely....
Finishes song with a smile that says " Now unhear that, folks!"
Greg sits at the end with tears running down my face AND giggling?????
floor is a gift to this world
HELLO FROM ARGENTINA.....
SHE IS .........The famous...........
FLOORGASM.........
SHE IS THE BEST.....FLOOR IS REALLY ....THE QUEEN OF QUEENS
She did it as a duet too, with Tim Akkerman. There she went all in in the belt part. Ruben (The guy in the black and white shirt) said in one episode: "It's amazing how you can make any song better"
Floor can make a stone have goosebumps...
Do Nightwish - High Hopes (Pink Floyd cover) no Floor but Marko ;) old but gold
Always the same thing happens to me: Whenever Floor Jansen covers a song, it becomes my favourite rendition of said song. Every. Time.
Just saw her perform this live :p She's just.... And that voice !!! Even the soundchecks were BEAUTIFUL to hear !!!
3:32.. Jules.. she sings this particularly for the blondie inthe red dress... eacht gets an episode on "The Seat" and the others will sing songs that inspired the person on the seat, or sing a song of them..
The thing with Floor is...as with somebody like Guthrie Govan on guitar, you get the sense that she's very deliberately choosing exactly how she wants every single note to sound, no matter how fleeting or incidental it is to the rest of the song. That's special, and when musicians do that it puts them on a totally different level to the rest of us.
The concept of Beste Zangers is to gather some well, zangers .. and let them sing for each other, always with some backstory behind it.
Regarding to take back power after climax: let me recommend "(You're A) Winner" from the same Episode.
Hi, Julia! I'm so happy I've reached your channel!! Finally there's someone reacting to music from which I can learn!! Maybe it'd sound weird, but Floor is the only singer I've listened to that's able to make me cry with her singing. It ALWAYS happens with Nightwish Ghost Love Score, and... believe me I'm crying again while writing this. She's able to touch my soul!!
Floor extracts emotions from songs, then injects it back in multiplied. All you have to do is watch her, and you can see that she FEELS the emotions strongly while she is singing. Her ability to belt out full during this song, and still give you a feeling of fragility is amazing.
Julia, I recommend you to also evaluate other performances of Floor (and "for Floor", because that's how this show worked) with Beste Zangers and performances of other vocalists from the same show, it's worth it!!
And Anneke's performances from this German version of the same show!!
If you closely watch the interactions between the singers on the couches and especially between Emma Heesters who is on the head couch and is the "Guest" for the night and Samantha Steenwijk the older female singer, you can see how Floor's version is aimed so specifically at the younger Emma. It's interesting your concept of Floor's approach brings a sense of "acceptance and sharing" (11:09).
You may want to use or at least look at the Jenniezelf versions of the Beste Zangers videos. They are not reaction videos but versions that include pre and post song dialogue, with English subs, that explain why some choices are made and some follow up from the other professionals on the show.
Great job. Thank you.
All of her performances from the show are amazing, but I suggest you check out her performances of Winner and I Don't Know A Thing About Love
EDIT: oh, and her and tim akkerman doing Shallow as a duet as well.
Floor never disappoints!
I love your channel, can't get enough. Keep up the good work. Stay healthy and ... happy holidays
I recommend her Duet on "Shallow" with Tim Akkerman from the same Show. It's more powerful and I really love Tim's Part in it.
He wanted to sing it again in the same Show with her since he had the feeling she need a Partner in the Song. Very wholesome :3
This will be good.
I like Julia reacting to stuff. A lot of people I've seen do vocal reactions tend to stop the song too often, which is a bit grating, but Julia conveys technical information in the form of text on the screen, and therefore stops the song less. This is a really good idea, and I'm quite surprised no one else does it...
Check out roadie reactions with Tank. He does this. Interestingly he explains things from a tech/ instrument, pyrotechnics viewpoint instead of vocal. Really interesting.
We love caption Julia too, she has humour.
NASA (Nightwish Army Scottish Allegiance) a vocal masterclass from Floor ...... She kills it (softly) the girl/girl is probably because she is singing this to Emma Hester's.
You and chase = the best...oh and welcome to Floor...😊😊
Beste Zangers was really cool, thanks!
My favorite is Que Se Siente, check it out.
Also, I like the intros where they say what they're going to do, please include it.
I said in another reaction that this version by Floor is a master class in subtlety and nuance, using all the different things she can do, wrapped up in a fragile and emotional delivery. I didn't see this coming when the show aired...gonna go out on a limb and say most people didn't either :). As for keeping it small, she credits the band for the suggestion. This is the same band she took out on her solo tour, btw, the Marcel Fisser Band. Also, she does a duet version of this with Tim Akkerman (the guy she sang Winner for) on the last episode. Even though they'd know each other for years through the Dutch music/festival scene, they'd never performed together, so Tim made that request for the duet. Floor sings it a little bigger in that version, but still keeps it smaller than what you'd expect.
Julia, it was actually the band who suggested to do this pulled back version of the song, keeping it as small and sensitive as possible. Floor was indeed very much in doubt about it and searching, welcoming the band's suggestion. I believe she told this after the song during the episode
"I could carry on ....." Please do! It's a real pleasure to hear you analyze every twist and turn Floor is capable of with her voice. And at the same time seeing you being overwhelmed by her true performance beauty. I feel like you're really adding something to the appreciation of her artistry. And you're right: she can bring us just as easy to hell as to heaven. Angelic .... yeah, but a Lucifer as well.
0:33 u said about how good she is in story telling. U should check & react to "About Love I Don't Know a Thing" she sang on the same show
Wow good response thanks for that.
Floor really is a world star.
