      And if there is no god, or god is not love, what then? These what ifs are just play with the words. Let me change the words to show you, how useless it is: "if violence is god and you experience violence, you are experiencing god". Or "if a car is god, and you experience car, you experience god"... What meaning has it, when you cannot know, what god is and is not and even you cannot know for sure if he is real or not?

    • @lb3240
      @lb3240 3 роки тому

      @@jakubholic8769 it's fine if you don't believe in God, that's your choice. God doesn't force anyone as many like to believe. I know he's there, but I don't explain anything to you, not when it would just be meaningless and you won't believe me anyways. That's something you need to figure out on your own.

    • @jakubholic8769
      @jakubholic8769 3 роки тому

      @@lb3240 I do not talk about believing. Anybody can believe what he likes. I was responding to the sentence, which I find... well, very poor. Sounds deep, but in fact isn't. That is all. And of course, if bible was completely truth, than your sentence "god doesn't force anyone" would be very wrong... Most of worlds gods from all the religions are said to force humans to believe in them. I do not believe in one, so I do not have to accept any forcing in that way. But I guess, that would be for longer and different discussion. As I have said, I find nothing wrong in personal beliefs, but I just wanted to show, how empty that sentece was. That's it. I devide people acc. to their characters, belief is more like just another opinion to talk about for me (of course if someone's belief is not radical) :-)

    I definitely love the way in which you approach the question about the role of the women in the Catholic Church! Every time I hear about this topic, it is approached in a "negative" way, trying to justify why it is not allowed to women to hold a certain service, rather than trying to focus on women can do for the Church. Thank you about discussion regarding confession. Also, the sharing of His divinity was a great revelation. A good prayer life always open doors. Thank you for how the gay community should be approached. Not all can preach well however our pastors are there to be instruments, vessels of Our Lord not meant to be entertainers. Be disciples and build up the kingdom of God. Great answer. Glad you shared, keep up the great ministry Fr Casey, I am sure God is pleased. God bless you and keep you, and my prayers for all priests continue in my daily prayers.

    I was raised as a protestant. I was taught the trinity and that Jesus is God. But after much reading of the scriptures I have found so many things that contradict both of those ideas.
    The Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit were a conundrum especially in light of the unforgivable/unpardonable sin. Within the past few years I've dug deep into scriptures and translations to get to the bottom of it. What I found was that it was a misunderstanding or something similar. The Holy Spirit was said to be the 3rd person in the trinity. But the words used in Genesis 1 during the Creation story was actually ruach ha kodesh translated into Mighty Wind. Upon more digging it became apparent that there were 2 versions. The other version was simply the spirit of holiness. As opposed to having a spirit of anger or sadness etc. Then I found that Jesus said woe to those who call good evil and evil good. Then it made sense. It tore a hole in the Trinity view. Then I questioned the trinity entirely. This lead me to find a difference between Jesus and the Father as well. Now I can't possibly justify seeing Jesus as God. I have many verses showing Jesus not knowing things because only God knows. Then I found Jesus being mentioned separate and unique from the Father. This reasoning is not accepted by most Christians but most Christians believe that Heaven is in some other dimension and when you die you appear there. So I don't give it much credit. I would appreciate some feedback and friendly debate on the subject please.

      I would also like to add that although I am a true believer, I have not been to any church in a long time. Primarily due to 1 John 2:18-19 So now I am in limbo.

    Hi Father Casey, I wish you could preach at my Parish. I
    The people are so unfriendly and the priest has such a heavy accent that it is difficult to understand him. I converted in 1999 but honestly I visited a Protestant church and they reached out to my family and me. Everyone was friendly and I definitely understood the pastor. I wanted to get our son confirmed but was told it was a 3 year process for him. I mean I miss mass but the church has to change on meeting others.

    You so well explicate the practical understanding of priesthood; but it would be good to hear more about the non-ordained friars. In the early days of the order, it is my understanding Francis gathered lay men (and women through Clare). How do they form community today with the ordained friars? What are Brothers?

    Being a Catholic and sharing the Body and Blood of Christ in each Mass I attend, I don't find it feasible that a Catholic should partake in any other sacrificial meat. 1 Corinthians 10:21 says it clearly. Can we share in the sacrifice offered by other religions?

    Hi Father Casey . . I don't know if your here anymore to answer questions .. So I will try and hope you will receive my Q.
    I am 62 now . . I was a damaged in a sense during my youth that took years to heal and it was from being robbed of being able to think for my self.
    I don't know if you can understand this but during my depression late teens I found refuge in Music.
    I contemplated a lot about God and life Mysteries and by the time I was 36 years old after years passed of feeling loneliness of unable to have a soul mate in marriage .. I had a amazing experience of Jesus coming into my heart taking that empty space away.
    it brought me back to the Church to even wanting to join . . after finding difficulties in finding a religious order i could feel i can fit in and some rejected me . . i was also always in debt owing money that also put obstacles in my way that my labor type of work could not free me from.
    Partly my fault to because I would spend money in wanting a good sound system that i could not afford in quality to enjoy music better.
    My down fall is i need to have a drink to relax me during my music sessions . . it put me on a mood level that allows me to relax with the music. . the problem is i tend to eventually drink more then i should.
    I do this once a week now putting time aside so as to not indulge to much.
    My question is . . I know i must moderate the drinking side which i am in the process of doing, but am I being unfaithful to Jesus if i put an afternoon aside to have time to relax with music, my session time that may last 3 to 4 hours.
    I often ask Jesus for permission to allow me but I am not aware how harden my heart is in hearing any answers.
    I want to love God with all my heart . . I have nothing going for me, no family of my own and while i have to work to survive i feel i need some think to look forward to that I can enjoy in a moment . . I do not live with the world ideas and it keeps me lonely from having common friends . .. many things disturbs me so i can never be clear and it bothers me if I am not being a good friend in return to him.
    I am a artist by nature and its the creativity art in Music artist i enjoy . . . I listen to mostly Blues type of sound tracks types of music.
    Am i robbing myself of salvation by spending some time for myself in this matter ?
    it over whelms me some times with whats going around us today as I need Gods protection against the evils & snares of Satan working through the leaders of the world.
    God Bless

    I have a question: when you hear confessions, how do you choose the penance for us?

    • @BreakingInTheHabit
      @BreakingInTheHabit  4 роки тому +35

      Penance is supposed to be a sign of one's conversion, and so I listen carefully for what I believe to be the stumbling block in the penitents way and try to come up with the first step for overcoming it. For instance, if someone is having anger or resentment towards another, I will ask them to pray for that person or to an act of charity towards them.

    • @rachelolvera4495
      @rachelolvera4495 4 роки тому +4

      I see thank you . My question was more like how do you choose someone say 5 Hail Marys , versus 3 our fathers, versus an entire rosary?

    • @BreakingInTheHabit
      @BreakingInTheHabit  4 роки тому +23

      Rachel Olvera I don’t ever give penances like that.

    • @CybermanKing
      @CybermanKing 4 роки тому +2

      Breaking In The Habit what’s the harshest penance you’ve given (as much as you can say anyway to keep the seal of confession)? Did you initially find it difficult to absolve the pertinent’s sins? Also, is there a prayer you like to say privately before inviting penitents to confess? I hope I’m not intruding into your privacy for asking these questions.

    • @BreakingInTheHabit
      @BreakingInTheHabit  4 роки тому +30

      Cyberman King I’ve never given a “harsh” penance because penance is not punishment. Penance is a way to facilitate and represent one’s ongoing conversion, and so I always give things that will help them take the next step in discipleship.

    Here is my personal honest point of view.... if I wanted a married priest or a female priest or whatever... etc.... I would not be a traditional conservative.... old fashion FEMALE CATHOLIC. I just would become a Episcopal worshiper after all the Episcopal church has all that I mentioned above. About the confession it is so true. I am so, so ashammed of my sins. I know that God knows my two sins that are the most punished in His law. Millions of women do it. I know that God loves me even though I am a sinner. I know He loves me because some situations in my life that the only one who have saved me, and helped me is God. Thank so much for all the UA-cam videos Father Casey. God bless you all. Peace, and love to all.

    Dear Casey, thanks for the video. I am an Anglican priest and enjoyed it. Here are two thoughts:
    a. Mary Mag was really the first apostle wasn't she? Sent by Jesus to the others with the greatest news of history, That has some interesting implications perhaps?
    b. Please consider doing a video on the person and work of the Holy Spirit.
    Keep up the good work.

      @Sterling Crowne Jesus send Marg Mag to tell the rest of His disciples ? Ha ! Ha ! Which bible verse showed Jesus instructed MM ? Mother Mary was the 1st believer of Christ. She accepted the job God gave and took part in the Salvation of the human race. She believed in God's plan and Jesus's salvific role. She was the 1st Apostle. Then came the 12. Mary Mag was a later addition.

    So when I go to confession my penance has always been couple of Hail Mary's etc. When I was a kid I went "joy ridding"" with buddies. Once we crashed a car caused a lot of damage. Question is was couple of prayers enough or should I have been required to make some type monetary payment?
