    I work at an Under Armour and although I agree it's a bit of a high price tag, we've been selling out of every colorway of the Currys like crazy, and this is an LA store. Numbers wise, they do great in store. And as far as Flow's durability goes, it was originally made for road running so it's more durable than one would think despite the appearance of its wear and tear.

    • @saiken811
      @saiken811 2 роки тому +90

      I could be wrong but the motions in running and basketball are quite different though, one is with constant single direction and the other involves a lot of sudden stops and turns. Maybe that's why the outsole isn't as durable when it's comes to basketball?

      @@saiken811 you're absolutely right for the most part! The only thing I'd say is unlike rubber outsoles that are only so thick that once they grind away, they're gone, Flow is a single piece silicone foam, so once that "tread" wears away, it's still the same tacky material. Of course they might not function the same on the hardwood, but if you wanted to use them outdoors, they still grip like crazy because cement doesn't rely on tread as much.. the foam is still gonna dig into the ground (I can tell you that first hand from my balded UA Futr Xs) But yeah as far as just appearance goes, they're gonna look destroyed so most people probably won't be into that especially they're expensive Currys

    I dont think there is nothing wrong with changing the tech, I think thats great actually. @@JAHRONMON Objectively.. the curry line is the worst signature line in basketball history when it comes to aesthetics! The curry 1s were promising. If i could buy the 1s in Blackout, i would right away but the rest is just thrash in terms of design. From the 3s to the latest release, they basically look like bulky socks with soles. Hideous! Just have a look at the curry 7s π day. They've been running with the same silhouette since the curry 3s with minor iterations. And if it was only with the curry line but it was the same with Cam Newton's and The Rock's signature line. Cam's CN1 was pretty dope and the rock's deltas were great but then, the design just got worse with each release.
      Chinese Brands have definitely gotten better and i'd rather buy a pair of Li-Ning, Peak or Anta instead of a UA Curry. Take a look at Peak's webstore and you'll see that, while ripping off UA's Curry line, Peak have managed to design a better looking Curry Signature* than Under Armour.

    Get consumers in the shoe at $100-120 and make them fall for the brand. My youngest son’s favorite player used to be steph and that was his first signature shoe about 5 years ago. We had less than a great experience and have only bought Nike for both boys since. When I splurged on jordan 36’s, the thought was it’s Jordan brand/Nike and has great reviews. Saw that curry 8/9’s had great reviews but when I saw $160 for ua it stopped me dead in my tracks. It’s not even a brand that my kids want so the price would have to be right to make that leap. Especially when I know kds and lebrons will be atleast half price at some point. (Lebron 19 lows were just $80 plus 20% off if you can deal with the worst colors).

    Interesting poiints, but I disagree. By putting the Curry in the Jordan price range is letting people know UA sees Steph Curry as valuable as Lebron and Jordan. A lower price point does not entice people to buy a shoe that does not look good. People are still buying Jordans years later because the design visuals were and still are fire. If the Curry line had the visuals of the Curry 4, and the performance of the Flow Tech shoes, we wouldn't be having the conversation. So it is a design (meaning visual) problem that they are having, IMO. Peace.

Nike went against curry when they felt threatened by him in 2016 and then made kd say his kicks werent cool after they won in 2017. In the same vein now kds and kyries kicks are underselling because people dont view them as winners. The truth is out. Kd is a bus rider.. he never led any team and nobody likes to associate with losers. Curry sells more than all those athletes in asia where the real population is.. I’m guessing that the higher price may allow for a greater profit margin for the retailers. Sneaker brands are really fighting for shelf space. Nike is King, Adidas command more shelf space now thanks to Ye so at this point Under Armor really has to give retailers a good reason to give them space vs their competition. A higher profit for the retailer might be their in.

Under Armour allowed me to return the I got a full refund; but come on UA; you have to do better! UA are downplaying how bad the 9's durability issues really are, several contacts had the same issue as me with the torsion plate breaking through the flow cushioning system and as a long term Curry shoe fan/customer (I've owned all but the 5's), I have been left feeling pissed off at UA! Yes they gave me a refund, but I took that money and bought the Nike Zoom Freak 4's. All i know is - for years in the Bay Area, i know a lot of hoopers stigma around his shoes was - “if you see a guy wearing curry’s he probably can’t hoop.”
    I’m not sure how this came to be but guys like didn’t wanna associate with his shoes, might have been because it brought out a lot of casual fans and people learning basketball to basketball courts during curry’s 2 MVP years.
    With covid basically closing off hoops for a few years - now coming back to the courts you don’t see guys wearing curry’s - probably cuz the casuals left, but more than that - with a price point that high it’s hard to justify buying it if you are just starting out.
    Like you said too - once you got comfortable with a style of tech in the shoe, they made changes almost every other year to where it almost feels like Steph is becoming the test dummy for all the tech ideas they are coming up with.

    The price issue isn’t just with the name. As a player, Curry does belong in the same bracket as lebron and Jordan. The problem is that you’re asking me to pay $160 for a shoe that does the same things as something like the Kyrie Infinity that retails for $30 less. There’s nothing you can do to convince me that a curry 8 or 9 is worth that much more on court. You can make that argument for a KD 14 or a Jordan 36 or a lebron sneaker because those all offer tech that results in they all do something substantially better with the tech they feature. You could say the same about a Way Of Wade sneaker. Steph’s line is literally the worst example of charging more money for an athlete name, and that’s why I don’t own a pair. I do own Jordan 34s and 36s, but both of those do something for me on game day that my Kyrie infinity’s don’t. Again, curry’s line just doesn’t do that.

Never have I ever seen a shoe last that long, sure the flow traction pattern wore but the traction was still A+ tier. I feel the same way about the 9's. And Curry deserves the Curry Brand aspect plus 160 for a shoe these days? C'mon dude, that's like average, maybe slightly higher than average.

      $160 is not average for a shoe these days. You ,any be skewing your median price with after market values. But did you see the outsole on the pair of 8’s in this video? That’s a maximum of 3 months use. It’s not good bro.

    I actually really like Curry’s shoes. I have ankle problems too and they do a really good job at making wearing braces with then comfortable

    Happy to see a video from you. I can agree, the price needs to be lower and kinda make it a bit more wearable off court.

    The iPhone might drop a week or two after being announced now because everybody is expecting it. The first one was announced in January 2007 and released that July. The second one had a similar timeline. As far as kicks, Jordan did it with the 14s. He rocked the Last Shots in June '98, and the actual 14s didn't come out until that October. Now that I think about it, that might've been a marketing move since he pretty much knew he was retiring and wasn't gonna be able to show off the shoe in action.

      Same thing happened with the Jordan 11s. He wore them in the playoffs (May) 1995 and they didn't release til the fall.

      Also, when you look at the iPhone 15, there were software optimizations that weren't there when the phone was released. Apple isn't perfect either since they started focusing on competing with hardware instead of sticking with the bread and butter (the OSes and making sure everything works) along with better hardware.
      I think that one shoe reminds me more of Samsung's strategy of announce early (last year it was before Apple's announcement), wait and see for a few months, then do the actual release early the following year.

    Steph shoes have a real purpose for playing basketball. They aren’t a designer shoe.

    Because nike keep producing better shoes thats why u got giannis pg kyrie kd and lebron. I dont think it has to do with price. Remember LeBron shoe cost 180-200$ and it still the best selling basketball shoes

    • @JAHRONMON
      @JAHRONMON  Рік тому +1

      I do not believe that he has the best-selling shoe. I don't care what Nike tells us. Nobody is auditing them. Go to any gym, you'll see Kyrie shoes out number lebron 4-1.

    If under armor is gonna catch on in the footwear market they're sure taking their sweet time. Some styles are ok....clean looking.....just not hitting with the public......not hating...just not seeing many on feet.

    Got some non curry UAs with flow tech. Playing mainly indoors, about once a week.
    Works great. Didn’t break the bank. Holds up well.

    I don't know why so many people are hating on the price. Ultraboosts are 180 dollars and drop to 90-150 dollars with discounts.
    The price point is just there to prevent scalpers you will easily see discounts for shoes that remain in stock for a period of time.

    I got the curry 3z7 budget shoe. For me, ive always been a high top player. Those shoes are so comfortable, are able to handle MY ankles in place, better than i expected and the traction is great. Would recommend at least trying. Under armour does kinda suck in alot of aspects, but these, id recommend, at least trying

    whether it's design fault or not in the end of the day signature shoes have to makes you feels special, just like signature guitar, Ibanez JEM, Ibanez JS and Slash Les Paul makes you feels special, imho on their best day Curry line up doesn't do that too well
