Good video. It's been nearly two years since I sold my 72 911S and since then I've had many bouts of regret, but I view videos like yours to connect back to that feeling I once had of Porsche ownership.
Hello - thanks for posting this video. I also have a '68 912 and am considering installing the MSD 6AL. The shop recommended the 5520 Street Fire and they also suggested upgrading the coil (the 8207). I noticed that you're using the MSD Blaster hi-vibration coil. Also, did you need a tach adapter? If so, where did you install it? Does it go under the dash or in the engine bay? FYI - I'm running an 031 distributor. Can you post a video of your engine bay after the install? Thanks in advance - again, great videos! Best regards.
G'day Mate- I wanna install an MSD Unit to my 68 Bug - I already have an electronic pointless unit fitted to my 009 Bosch Dizzy and works well. I have also made sure that my coil is a 3 ohm one. Question is - can I still use my 3 ohm coil with the MSD UNIT or do I need to install another coil of different ohms .
I stopped using bosch blue and MSD red coils a long time ago. i find that the black MSD coils provide better spark and are much more durable. the black coils are made to mount in any direction up, down or on their side and are intended for high heat and vibration. the bosch blue and MSD red coils are built to only face up/with the coil wire facing up. Have fun! Phil
Just a thought. If the MSD unit delivers multi spark bellow 3,000 RPM but only one spark above, then what is the point to having this installed in an air-cooled 911. The only time you're running bellow 3k is to warm up the engine. Peak torque is above 3k so the MSD unit at that level is providing the same spark that the stock BOSCH unit would. This is a question for anyone. Thanks.
I did some later research and it does look like you're getting a higher voltage as you said, but no benefit from that seeing how the MSD spark pulse width is half that of the stock BOSCH unit. Idle and startup are potentially the only benefit to be had with the MSD installation.

I didn’t finish listening but wouldn’t the left side be a place to install ?

AEKerby it helps you have a smooth idle and it provides a higher voltage to the spark plug
