As a drummer and a jeff fan i really don't understand how anyone can criticize this. This guy is putting a spin on a great groove to make it his own, which he has mastered. If Jeff Pocaro had not put his own spin on the Purdy shuffle, then there would be no Rosanna shuffle. Reinventing great grooves is how new ones are created.
You said exactly what I've been trying to articulate. This dude is just giving us drummers some ear treat and all good muso's can separate flaring up on UA-cam to grooving on a record and always knowing when to do so.
There are 1000s of rosanna drum covers ... this is my favourite ... cool ... laid back ... dynamic ... and a lot of remarkable new creative highlights ... yes ... like an surprisingly fresh update ... love it!
It’s incredibly refreshing to see a drummer play such a classic groove but feel comfortable enough to put their own touch on it and not play it exactly as Jeff did, hit for hit. Well done buddy. This is awesome.
@@theaterdreamer. Of course if can. He's just adding to it. You can hear that he's grooving just like Jeff. He's adding to it because it's not a studio track. After reading some of the comments on here prompted me to chime on this young man's performance. Everything he added to the song was amazingly tasteful. His groove was infectious. Pocket for days. The sound of his drums was on point. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. As I stated earlier this young man is smoking. I believe most who gave somewhat of a negative comment probably couldn't carry this young man's stick bag. lol!!

Totally true. And easily the best version of Rosanna on UA-cam even if didn't flare up wits fills. He is world class. Most drummers could not play what this guy is playing.
Disagree. I enjoyed this less, because of the extra notes. This song has established parts, and my brain struggled to enjoy the song because it wasn't hearing them.
@@ryancox5097 Yeah, there's an element that too I think. We're so used to Jeff just being and absolute "groove king" that it's unusual to hear. Any good musician certainly knows not to bring it into the studio unless you're Carter Beauford (completely different style of music though)
A good musician has to be mature .I used to get told "I was a great bass player" all the time as a teenager. If I listen anything I played on in the late 90's I almost cringe at how much I over played. I played disco/funk/slap in nearly everything and it was cool to hear as a bass player. This Rosanna vid is great and I'm sure he is mature and knows he's showing his skills which are brilliant.
This is just unreal. That pocket is dead on, fills are otherworldly, the whole thing is just so crisp and clean. He brought this song to LIFE, but kept the overall groove and feel. Incredible!
