  • We travel to the Theodore Roosevelt Dam in Arizona USA to super-zoom in on two Great Blue Herons that are building a nest on the dam! We'll need all of the Nikon COOLPIX P1000's 125x magnification to get a close-up view. And I try (and fail!) to follow one of the giant birds in flight while zoomed in. Check out the video clips and pictures that showcase the Nikon P1000's amazing zoom capabilities! Plus there's a view of the original version of the dam which was completed in 1911.
For more videos, pictures and information on super zooming, check out 1lens2.com.
Check out the article on my website entitled "Theodore Roosevelt Dam - Then and Now" where I show pictures and compare the original dam with the current version of the dam. There is a big difference! Here's the link:

at 3000 focal range, the subjects seem to be out of focus a little bit. but thinking of the wind those things may happen.
i think at 2000 that's the best range as a super zoom.
BTW, this dam is the one that is famous for New Deal?

Hi rock paper! Agreed. Above 2000mm, focusing becomes more difficult due to the increasingly smaller depth of field at the highest focal lengths. And the wind that day definitely did not help :) With the small display screens on cameras, it's sometimes hard to tell what's in focus and what isn't when you're out in the field.

And... this dam was actually funded by the Reclamation Act of 1902, which was signed into law by "Theodore" Roosevelt. The New Deal was in the 1930s during "Franklin" Roosevelt presidency. Lots of Roosevelts :)

Hello! This camera is good for astrophotgraphy?

I've not done much astrophotography so I'm not sure. The zoom range would be great, but my guess would be that the P1000's limitations with low light (ISO settings, small sensor) would be limiting for some types of astrophotography.
