- A plethora of Super Zoom Tests! In this episode of the Nikon P1000 super zoom variety pack series, we'll zoom in on some interesting things to see in the Phoenix, AZ metropolitan area including hikers on a mountain, a tufted diving duck, a partial solar eclipse, carnival rides, planes taking off, a bighorn sheep, the top of a TV communications tower, the tallest building in Arizona, and the inside of an office building at night. These superzoom tests really show off what the P1000's amazing optical zoom range from 24 to 3000mm!

I'm glad of that photo camera despite its flaws. It is versatile ;)
Nikon Coolpix P1000 can really be a decisive advantage thanks to its super zoom (1000-1300 mm). But during planespotting, functions were unresponsive while the camera was still on. I had to take out the battery and put it back.
So an issue we do not have with a DSLR camera.
When you zoom to 200 mm for instance, the camera automatically zooms back to 24 mm a few minutes later. What I recommend for others is to be near runways and to get a clear vision, also to be prepared when an aircraft is about to takeoff. Cause if you are standing behind a hill and an airplane suddenly appears, you completely missed it if you are equipped with a Coolpix P1000.
So I take a photo, I turn it off as the Nikon Coolpix can only take 250 photos. I turn on again.
While I own a Nikon P-1000, I disappointed myself when I traded my Nikon P-950 in for the P-1000 last year. The 950 was lighter and less of an issue for me when zoomed at it's full length although the zoom capibility was 2000mm. Interestingly I dod not see that much of a difference between 2000 mm and 3000 mm. Don't get me wrong....I'm not complaining (well...maybe I am) a little bit) however after seeing your photos and impressed with them I just need to hold my camera steadier at full zoom even though I use a monopole. Great videos.
Yes, the P1000 is for sure a handful! Most of my photos and videos at full zoom are on a heavy, solid tripod. My hand held shots can be pretty shaky! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
What kind of tripod do you use? This camera doesn't have built in stabilizer?
I'm still using my old Fancier FC-02H tripod. I think that the key thing is to buy or make a plate/mount that shifts the camera's center of gravity over the center of the tripod head when it's significantly zoomed. The P1000 has vibration reduction, but super telephoto can be a challenge even with stabilization.
What setup, especially tripod do you use?
I use an older Fancier FC-02H tripod with a fluid video head. I made a custom tripod mount that shifts the P1000 back a little so the camera's center of gravity while zoomed in is over the center of the tripod. I also use a FEELWORLD T7 Plus 7" external monitor to help see exactly what is in focus.
Tengo la p1000 y nunca es lo suficientemente nítida mi foto, en cambio con mis otras cámaras si consigo esa nitidez deseada...pero es una cámara que la disfruto.

Creo que las olas de calor y las partículas en el aire a grandes distancias también son factores. Normalmente puedo obtener una imagen nítida a 3000 mm si el sujeto no está demasiado lejos. ENGLISH: I think that heat waves and particulate matter in the air over great distances are factors too. I can usually get a sharp picture at 3000mm if the subject is not too far away.
This inspires me to dust off my p1000 and go do some super zooms. There is too much air pollution now, I'll have to wait for some rain
Agreed, it's hard to find a place where heat waves and particulate matter are not a problem! Mornings are usually a good time of day. It's great to hear that you might pick-up the P1000 again!
