  • This is a budget hardware store in the United States, and some fused glass artists can save some dollars applying a little creativity within their aisles!

OMG! Jamaison, you KILL ME! "I mean if you don't get excited over peg board accessories and cable ties, are you even breathing?" LMAO!! I laughed loud and hard over that one! I actually like Harbor Freight. It is like a Dollar Store for tools! There are some glass designs I make where I actually carve the glass with my dremel and you can burn through the diamond bits pretty quickly. So HF is a good place to grab some quick replacements in quantity. Yeah, they have some fun stuff! Thanks for the laughs and the reminder of it being a pretty decent place to get those one-off items. 👍😉

HF is not just for guys anymore, LOL! I think I buy more at that store than my hubby does. I’ve had a fused glass home studio for about 6 years and I’ve bought close to 60% of my studio “tools” at this store. The tweezer sets are great, the diamond bits I buy all the time, my respirator is HF; the disposable 5mm gloves are great and the perfect price - I use them when working with mica powders, kiln wash, anything messy. Great video. This store is perfect for those of us that don’t have a lot of money to invest in this hobby and I would rather spend my money on the glass, not the tools. Sometimes you have to think outside the box when looking for that perfect tool you need and Harbor Freight is the place I go.

You’re absolutely right - it’s not just for the guys! But my wife (who isn’t into glass) could think of a million other places she’d rather be! So that’s why I said it was a good dude afternoon for me. 😂

I am the same in a hardware store. Love the ideas. I use the fine diamond bits and they seem to work fine. I like the tray with the pour capability. It is an excellent idea.

I love that you posted this video. I went to Harbor Freight for the first time a few weeks ago and couldn't believe the amount of stuff that's useful to me, and the low prices!

They also have some great priced end nippers that cut cane well. I just got a 14" pair for $16 and they easily nip 1/2" cane without much effort.

I have the wet 10” tile saw and a drill press from there for my glass work, both have been great. I bought a quality Dimond blade from somewhere else tho.

That’s a common theme I’ve seen... many suggest diamond blades from HIS glassworks.

One other item that I find is a must for me is one of their parts bins. I have the 48 bin one for $99 and it is perfect for sorting glass scrap as you are cutting. I make a lot of my own frit and keeping the colors and COEs separate from the jump is crucial 😊

I am a HB fan too. I love their denim shop apron too. Keeps those little bits of glass off my clothesI have a number of the items shown but the yellow tray for reclaiming glass Frit and powders is one that has escaped me. Sounds like it is time for a trip to the store here too.

I’m at HF OFTEN looking for “tools” for fusing and lampworking. Here are just a few of my finds. Heavy duty curved end pliers are great for vitrograph pulls. Neat colored tool cabinets for storage. Their drill press has been going for me for 10 years! My big compressor for my sandblasted are both HF items and have held up very well. I did have to modify the sand blaster itself but the cabinet has been perfect and MUCH MUCH cheaper than professional cabinet when I only need it for cleaning up pieces. Those are just a few items you didn’t mention that I’ve used over the years. Great store and thanks for showing us some more ideas!

So ironic that you posted this! Yesterday I discovered a brand spankin new Harbor Freight in a strip mall about 10 minutes from home. There are several in the Dayton area but both about 30 minutes away. I love to just go in and browse. But there is always something to find! I love those yellow sorting trays and have several myself. I also like the magnetic tool trays for the rare times I make my own frit.

Check out your nearest NAPA store. I work in the Finance department at HQ, with access to all of the catalogs. You would be astounded by what you can use for glass.

Thanks for showing Harbor Freight. You forgot about electric tools. Like you say, not the best quality but once in awhile they come in handy.
