Patty Gray is a great glass artist, I had the honor of taking a class from her back in the 80's. Hope she is still around. And your piece turned out Great.

Hi Jamaison,
Bullseye glass provides formula for weight of glass in one of the videos on their website.
Basically it is volume multiplied by the specific gravity of glass.
So for circle form the formula is
weight (in grams) = radius squared x 3.14 x height (centimeters) x 2.5 (specific gravity of BE glass)
please double check specific gravity of BE glass - I am not sure if it is 2.5 or 2.6.
Also, you need to hold quite a bit longer than 10 minutes at the highest temperature in order to allow glass to flow, bubbles to come out (although not all always will) and surface to even out. I would try at least half an hour.

Here Iam a year later and jut now seein this, man did I need this more than you know. Thank you! I just received my GM 131 mold and redy to use. My concern that lead me here was how deep to fill it. Seeing and learning from you is ALWAYS a pleasure.

I always enjoy watching your videos. I think you do a great job and there is always something to learn. See you have some copper carbonate glass on the video. After watching your video last year, I gave it a try and had fantastic results. I was fusing snowflakes last Christmas and put it in one of my pieces .. in the middle and at the tips. Amazing when they are hung in a window. The bubbles sparkle in the sun. Keep up the great work.

I love Patty Gray molds. I never use thinfire inside and never get bubbles or sticking.

Jamaison, I remember your first few videos and my friend, your techniques and knowledge have grown by leaps and bounds! I love your videos and always learn fun stuff from you. Please keep them up! I loved the colors used in this project. I think you made a really good decision not to try to fill in the divit's but rather, use the organic approach, excellent move! While Slumpy's caters to the 96 COE crowd (I am 90 COE) for glass, their molds are really wonderful, I have a ton of them! Great work, thanks for sharing! 👍😉

Hi again. Rewatched your video. I too have the exact mold I purchased just getting into fusing. It’s helpful to have the fill weight achieving at least 6mm. Along my fusing journey I discovered the Italian Terracotta saucers used as drip trays under plants. It started when I purchased a Vitrigraph and all you do is put your glass inside a terra-cotta pot heat it up to very high temperatures. Same applies to the terra-cotta saucer. The cost is a few dollars. I only use Kiln Walsh I’ve done screen melts you name it and it would stands several uses thus Illuminating the need for expensive Patty gray mold saves a lot of money maybe you could buy more glass with it with the savings? Just wanted to share a great find like you are always sharing great information with us and thank you for that.

I just purchase a Patti Grey 8” mold. Filled it with scrap glass from a local glass blower. It was stunning but too thick so with some math I figured how many grams to put in the next time.. Learning as I go also, trying again.😊

Thanks for the video. I have a Patty Gray damn mold too and have hesitated to use it. But no longer. I am putting this project on my list for this winter and have some red/white COE 96 glass that would be pretty. Maybe I will add some white or clear to dilute the bright red just a bit. I like the fact that we see the project from start to finish with along with any redos.

I am loving this art, I have been doing stain glass but want to expand. Any ideas on best kilns and beginner tips or videos?
I followed the same path… stained glass into fusing. Fusing is a lot more expensive in my opinion, but I love it and have never looked back. I started with whatever kiln I could find used on my local marketplace but it would be ideal to have one with a digital controller. Read as much as you can, watch UA-cam videos, and take a class or two. Most of all, take excellent notes and be a fearless fuser!
Love your video! Hate that mold requires kiln paper. I will have to join multiple sheets, and that may create seams. Either that, or take out mortgage to buy larger kiln paper!😀
Yes, it’s unfortunate but it seems to be the only way it works well for me. I don’t use this much anymore, opting for stainless steel rings instead.

No, I’ve flattened very small pieces but not tried anything this large (yet)!

Also, did you have the mold on kiln furniture? Can you not set the mold on the bottom of the kiln? Thank you so much!
Hi there! No, for the second firing, I did not use a mold because I was hoping to see it spread out a bit more. And yes, I propped the mold up on kiln furniture for Bette air circulation under and to promote more even heating. Not sure if that makes a real difference but it’s what I’ve heard and I figured it couldn’t hurt? 🤷🏻♂️

Jamaison, you have a new fan in me! I saw your Costco tile video and have been hooked on all your adventures since! I love this one...I have the same PG mold AND similar glass. I just set up my glass studio and only have a small kiln I can use in it (so far) which is the Paragon Home Artist kiln. Do you think I could fire that mold in my kiln? The shelves are 10" round and I think the form might hang over a little? I'd appreciate your professional opinion on this. :-)
Hi Cindy! Thank you for your kind words. If the mold fits in the kiln without hitting your thermocouple, I say go for it. You are using lid elements? I would still raise your mold off the shelf (or off your kiln floor) but if it fits, I say go for it! I would not recommend it if you are using side elements, as those elements would be way too close to your mold itself. But if you are using lid elements, I don’t see a problem? I don’t know that kill me however, so maybe you could reach out to paragon and ask them?
Love your videos. I am super new. What do you use all the little round pieces for and the long ruler side bars that you have on the side of your table. Love the blue bubbles
Those little rounds become jewelry or magnets. The slide thing is a cutting system called Beetle Bits. And the blue bubbles is a different process you can see here: Fused Glass Bubble Pendants Using Copper Carbonate

I have really enjoyed your videos. I have a couple of patty gray molds. The last 2 times I have tried to use them, there have been huge empty holes in them. I use the correct schedule. Ever heard anyone or you having this problem?
Unfortunately, yes, I've seen a lot of people commenting about very mixed results with these molds! I'm still trying to learn the ins and outs of them myself!!!

I basically collect my own from projects I’m making, but you might also regularly check for sale sites like Craigslist or Facebook marketplace to find someone who is getting out of the craft?

No, this is fusing glass from Bullseye. It’s formulated differently for kilnforming.
