    She mentioned a couple times about only needing the small one, but for me, there is literally nothing I would ever want to make that is 2” big, so this may not be an option, but the video was helpful because I now know this is not likely a good option, but I am glad to know it’s safe, so I can keep it in the back of my mind in case I decide to make pendants.

    Thank you for a great video - I appreciate it very much. Could you please tell me if there's a way to stack separate pieces? Any tiny shelves for a microwave kiln? Is this a terrible idea? Thanks again.

    • @GlazeGlassJewellery
      @GlazeGlassJewellery  Рік тому +1

      Firing separate pieces simultaneously is not recommended. The typical microwave kiln firing method requires multiple stop-start inspection cycles and could result in stacked shelves being jogged or bumped each time the kiln is opened for inspection.
      If multiple glass pieces are being fused, it is likely that a spill or unintended fusion of pieces could occur.
      If multiple silver clay pieces are being sintered, then a cross-weld of the pieces is possible.
      The normal approach to increasing the volume of production of pieces via microwave kilns is serial use (one after the other) of multiple microwave kilns.

    I bought a small microwave kiln. Mine is not black on the inside. I want to fuse glass pc. I see in some pictures they have standoff kiln blocks under. No instructions to do this on the original kiln cure instructions. Is this nec?

    • @GlazeGlassJewellery

      I'm not sure where you purchased your microwave kiln. Ours come with the base and the black on the inside of the lid is a mixture of silicon carbide and sodium silicate.

    • @debbieoetgen4049
      @debbieoetgen4049 4 роки тому +3

      Yes, you can. 700w is very low power, but all microwave ovens are different. Where I would fire something at ,say, 3 minutes on high in my 1100w, you may need to fire yours at, say, 5 minutes on high to get to the same temperature.

    This video doesn’t say what temperatures does it reach and at which microwave settings

    • @candacerighton3959
      @candacerighton3959 Рік тому +1

      Use the standard high heat setting on your microwave. There isn't a specific temperature that the kiln reaches, it varies throughout the process. Bring the kiln up to heat (check after 2 - 2.5 minutes) and then to avoid over heating, run for short periods of time pausing to briefly lift the lid to keep the temp down.

    Hi Debbie, what product do you use to repair the kiln? My grandson had fun with this, but I believe we slumped glass too hot and it damaged the surface.
    Also, what can I use to get rid of the rough haze on the back of a glass piece after it is cooled. It seems my pieces are rough and white on the side that sits on the kin. Thanks

    can you use it to melt metal?

    • @GlazeGlassJewellery
      @GlazeGlassJewellery  2 роки тому +1

      You could melt metal but it wouldn't be very practical. You would need to use a crucible to hold the metal and would only be able to do very small amounts at a time. It would also be very difficult to gauge the temperature or hold it at a certain temperature.
