Amazing movie. Heavily criticised in its moment. Never listen to the critics, they are usually wrong and have hidden agendas. Enjoy what you like.
Absolutely agree. The classics nerds were not happy because it was not exactly the Iliad. The Iliad, though amazing, would not work as a modern film. Removing the gods changes it so much, but works much better. Epic film, my favourite forever.
I never listen to reviews. Somehow everyone conspires together to hate on the stuff I like and praise the stuff that I don’t. Gotta ask my psychiatrist about it.
Peter O'Toole hated it and he was bloody Priam!! His interviews for the movie are painful. He looks like he is sitting on broken glass. To quote him (and btw his performance of Priam is for many people, the standout performance of the entire film): Ugh, what a disaster. The director, (Wolfgang Pederson) that k***t, [racial slur for German] what a clown he was”. Continuing, he added: “When it was all over, I watched 15 minutes of the finished movie and then walked out…At least I had one good scene”. Soooo 😬
I know by the way, that if he was unhappy, Peter would have been a complete nightmare to work with. I know Diane Kruger said as much. He probably didn't have a lot of respect for her as an actress and, to be fair, her performance consisted of turning up and looking distressed in what would have been a harrowing, traumatic experience. IMO she sleptwalked through the whole thing. Maybe it was because she had sweet FA to really work with but I never got the sense of a conflicted woman beside herself with guilt as this sh*tshow plays out - as she is in the Iliad. I know the Iliad would be basically unfilmable as a lot of myth is unpalatable to a modern audience. I mean, let's face it: in this scene, Briseis has been taken against her will, assaulted, brutalised - probably gang raped by Achilles' 'heroic band of brothers' and given to him as a prize. These are not two crazy kids falling in love, even if Brad Pitt is crazy attractive. The Greeks are not gentlemen and women are treated as nothing more than possessions. Except for Andromache - her relationship with Hector is stand out. But we all know how that ends. Andromache is taken as a slave (and we all know what that would mean for her). Also I doubt whether modern audiences could have stomached their little baby boy being thrown off the walls of Troy by Odysseus nor seeing Priam's daughter Cassandra raped in the temple by Ajax. These heroes are not likable by modern standards (even if Sean Bean make Odysseus so). They are bloodthirsty brutes, rapists and slave drivers. Murderers of children. Ravagers. If the roles were reversed, the Trojans would have been the same. So I would say it was a heroic effort by the cast to bring an ancient story to modern audiences and although I was disappointed, it was good for what it is.

So chill 😅
Its obvious we sometimes envy the good things we can't have.
the guy is prettier than the girl, that's why she's embarrassed 😂
she got beat up pretty bad
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂lol
Why you gotta do a beat up Rose Byrne like that
For what's worth, tho, she was pretty lovely, even beaten up and all.
Best pickup line ever
This voice in combination with this song just is so peaceful ❤
Rose Byrne ❤ my crush
True. Because I find this actress the most beautiful in this film than her other ones.
Life is greater than death but love is more than either.
I cant tell it I feel uplifted, or even more depressed than I already was.
"If they ever tell my story,
Let them say I walked with giants,
Men rise and fall like winter wheat but these names will never die
Let them say I lived in the time of Hector, tamer of horses,
Let them say I lived in the time of Achilles...."
My favorite movie of all time
Why am I tearing up? Such a beautiful and poetic moment.
Those words are almost 3000 years old, and still resonate
Almost made me cry when he said we will never be here again…out of the sheer relief those words brought to me. I really hate existing in this life.
Might as well try to get it done right then.
Turn that hatred into creating something great. Invest in yourself and your life, become admirable and high value. Spend time with loved ones and family. Contribute something wonderful to society. If you really wish for help with life listen to Jordan Peterson, he is an amazing person who saves millions with wisdom and teachings. Stay strong you legend!
Best movie ever made
100% agreed. Classic's nerds don't like it because it "isn't the Iliad" when the Iliad would not work as a modern film. Most of the Iliad is dialogue. A lot of it is god's squabbling. There is a lot of action but some of it just wouldn't work today. So Wolfgang Peterson did a brilliant job making it an Iliad without the gods and a bit different. Will forever be my favourite film.
Have you seen the Director's Cut too?
@@thirsty7281 I’m not sure, where can you watch the directors cut?
You'll never be lovelier than you're now. We will never be here again.
Yes, this just makes every passing moment feel beautiful.
They dont make masterpieces like Troy anymore. Absolutely phenomenal movie
He looks way fkn beautiful than her!!
Beautiful acting 😢
When he said this line I look at the screen with such intrigue ❤
What a great movie
I thought you were a dumb brute.. I could have forgiven a dumb brute..
And the very last..
"You gave me peace in a lifetime of war.. 😓"
Reminds me of hades in wrath of the titans. For mortals they go somewhere when they die but for gods its just absence. Heartbreaking.
I like that films from 90s and 2000-2010 are becoming popular for youth to see online since not many people own the DVDs or have lost them 💝
Yes even though there is make up and they are "dolled" up the actress here is absolutely adorable here makes my heart skip a beat.
He needs a better line to get in her toga.
🤣🤣🤣
needed that laugh 😃
Someone didn't watch the movie.
@@thirsty7281l never get to see a whole movie.
@@petedeluisa6315 They get it on. And watch the whole movie, especially the Directors Cut. It's very good.
I remember seeing Troy in the theatres. This dialogue stayed with me....
It’s bothers me so much knowing that Pitt hated playing this character. Don’t think it’s the character so much as the grueling film & workout schedule but still
Yeah true, it's weird when actors get and play the perfect role that they were born for and then say it sucked... like what do you want? You just played the greatest most beautiful warrior of all time?? AND you did an amazing job.
@@thirsty7281I mean yeah honestly I don't think it could of been done much better.
@@TheCullousus Agreed.
"We will never be here again"
directors cut ✂
"Now drop them panties"
This is in both the theatrical and directors cut
I used that same line to approach a girl but she was an atheist and I got rejected 😢
The role he will be forever remembered for, love watching this movie 👍👍👍
Idk that it will be the only one. He has played other great characters as well.
Niagra falls in her pants 😂
Tap water in his
He was right, the gods envy him, even Angelina did it 😂
But I still believe in God an Jesus Christ and still have all my family together ❤
Good Movie to watch btw
There's a difference between God and gods. The gods that Achilles meant are like Zeus, Mercury, Poseidon...
@@TalesofLaksamana oh really? I didn't know that :-)))
Little Brother, I am fully aware of that. But I think, you did not got my point ;-)
@@TalesofLaksamana parliamentarians Goats.
we have been here several times and we will be here several times more
That comment ' The gods envy us because we are mortal' I just love this one

"Je te laisserai des mots"
He has eyes of daggers in this scene 🥶
This, still in my mind ,though the film was seen years ago. ❤
Every dialogue in this movie is veey well written
Powerful 🔥
Man was just a couple thousand years ahead of the game lol
The boy$ sampling this was so perfect
That emotion in her eyes is just so killing❤
love is only possible because life is fleeting
Brad Pitt literally radiates Gold color in this movie.
he got the Achilles rizz
