    I have been making candles as a hobby for about 10 years now, and have basically taught myself almost everything I know. After watching your videos it makes me feel good that I do things almost exactly how I am supposed to. I am looking forward to trying a hot plate for finishing candles since that is where I have struggled the most. Thanks you so much!

    I enjoy watching your video, a beginner in candle making, it really helped me a lot. I just need you to clarify something with regards to additives. To have a snow like effect on the candle, how much powder do I have to add to a lb of paraffin being melted?

    I'm using rubber moulds for making candles....Would Vybar be good to mix with wax to help with mould release?

    • @LaurensLollipops
      @LaurensLollipops  5 років тому

      For rubber molds I have always had to use a mold release. There are several on the market, you might be able to get it at a home repair store locally, I am not, so here is the link

      I would look for a local wax supplier- the cost of shipping the weight heavy material really adds cost . If you lack a local option you can use www.candlescience.com/
      Candle Science sells everything you need. But for candle molds I always use North Valley Molds or the Mold Man- they are fantastic. www.moldman.com/

      I use and have for years IGI 1239. There is a local merchant, Candle Science that allows me to pick up the wax verse shipping- this saves allot of money. To really answer your question- Candle Science has an online option www.candlescience.com/wax/paraffin-wax/paraffin-slash-soy-blends-for-container-candles-and-tealights

    SpinRash Your message was not 100% clear but I am guessing that you are asking why does there half to be alcohol in the fragrance. You can actually use essential oils without alcohol but you have to be really careful your wax is hot enough to blend but not so hot that it will burn off instantly. Because of the tricky nature of the blend we recommend an alcohol bridger to help the two oil bases (wax and scent) blend.

    Is poly boost the same as vybar?

    • @everythinghunkydory
      @everythinghunkydory 8 років тому

      +Buttermilk Bay Soap - no but they are in the same family. Poly Boost is a wax stabilizer and will increase opacity, gloss, depth of color and as well as scent blending. Vybar is mainly used to increase scent saturation and therefore scent throw. However it does decrease opacity.

    hello I am Italian I understand a lot of your videos but I have a request. Can you write to me the additives that you use?thank you

    • @everythinghunkydory
      @everythinghunkydory 8 років тому

      +olimpia borrelli typlically I don't use much in the way of additives but here are a few common ones that are used in Candle Making. Steric Acid- hardens the wax for a longer burn and smoother finish. Modeling- will create the snow flake finish on the candles skin. Scent, obviously. Prefer liquid scent to solid.

    What type of alcohol do you need to mix with your FO and why do you need to mix with alcohol am lost on that one.

    • @everythinghunkydory
      @everythinghunkydory 8 років тому

      +Spin Rash pure essence of scents- like lavender will not blend as well as a fragrance designed to be used in candle making. both the scent and the wax are oil bases- two oils do not blend as well unless you have a bridger...in the case of making salad dressing we typically use a vinegar to help all the oils blend. In the case of candle making they make scent with a bit of alchol in it to help with the bridge. With all that said- you can use essential oils- you just need more and you need to make sure you stir really well.

      Happy newyears and thanks very much for the response i do make candles professionally and i never added any alcohol to my mix, my candles scent throw is very strong according to those who uses my candles. i do purchase my FO from very high ended suppliers such as thecandlemakerstore, naturegardens, mikefrangranceandmore.

    • @everythinghunkydory
      @everythinghunkydory 8 років тому +1

      +Spin Rash If it's not broke- don't try and fix it. People enjoy your candles- keep your process the same. My guess is the scent you are using is already a blend. Most sold are.

    Hi Lauren,
    I just love your videos..They are so informative...Would it be at all possible to list the addatives that you mention in your video..and who your supplier is..I'm in Australia and I'm not sure if they are available here...Thank you so much...Sylvia

    • @LaurensLollipops
      @LaurensLollipops  6 років тому

      If I am going to fast you can always pause the video. Not sure about what is available in Australia. Each country varies on how they refine petroleum and what they offer in terms of refined paraffin. (Paraffin is a bi product of the process) My advice is to start small. Buy small amounts. Make small batches and take lots of notes on everything you do. Candle making is based in chemistry- the devil is in the details. You will be able to very quickly figure out what you need and if you even need additives. Good luck. Happy crafting.
