  • This footage was taken when I had my pan workshop out at the Old Power Station, outside Grahamstown in South Africa. I rented an outbuilding that had once been a pump room when the powerstation was in operation. It was small, but the weather was generally good enough that we could work outside a lot of the time. There was an abandoned house adjacent to the pump room, which we used as a place to sink drums.
The video presented here shows the techniques and tools I employed at that time; and follows the production of a D Lead pan from start to finish over the course of a few days.

Steve, did you keep any of those old "Cannon Balls" from Grahamstown?

When you beat down the grooves do you hammer the note or around it as well

I work a little inside the note. Be aware that this is a very dated video and I don't use many of these techniques any more.
