- This is an important documentary about the birth of the Steeldrums....the very root of the instrument of the 21st century, The Handpan!
I took the freedom of make a little remastering of the audio and video as well as synchronizing the parts that were in need. I believe its a little bit more pleasant to watch it now.

He seemed very respectful of their culture. I like that he talked about the great skill involved making and tuning the drums.
Haha! I love that! Pete just picks it up and says "let's see what I can do on it." and knocks out a tune! A pity more people in this world aren't like Pete Seeger.
Pete Seeger doesn't just "knock out a tune." He gives a virtuoso performance of a section of a very famous Brazilian composition "Tico Tico no Fubá." But yes, that makes his humility all the more profound.
No law banning the "tamboo bamboo" was passed during World War 2. The drum was banned during the 19th. century, and it was replaced by bamboo, which was used until it was discarded in 1939.

This is so cool!...takes a lot of skill to make one...I was thinking of just getting a steel drum to set up and beat on during thunder storms..that's the only time I could play it outside and not cause my neighbors to band together and form a lynch mob.

@@MikeWongVideo really? I'm sorry for your loss, obviously he was an ambitious person. I came for steel drum diy but that was the most impactful part of the video, I'd love to hear more about his story

+Michael Regelmann NAh...I dont think its Felix. Cmon this was shot in 1956....Felix is what? 60/65? Simply cant be! :)
+Mandakini I was born in 1958 and I think Felix is older than me. Perhaps his Spirit was in Trinidad before he was born ! Maybe I am wrong , but I feel he is a Trinidad Man.
+Michael Regelmann Legend has it Felix was not well received in Trinidad.... ;)
