Banter between intelligent Englishmen is a wonderous thing. Richard Curtis has been at the core of the best British television and film humour for thirty years.
Respect, Richard Curtis! An intelligent, caring and wise voice among the deafening noises making us egotistical, materialistic followers of the masses.
Always loved his films. Naive? How can kindness and caring be naive? His movies and shows are fun, quirky but full of emotions and warmth. We need more of that!
Yes! Yes! finally!!! Well deserve Richard Curtis has been part of my life and my childhood with Blackadder and Mr Bean with his dear friend Rowan Atkinson and then to do other things like Four Weddings and a Funeral with Rowan and starting his future partnership with Hugh Grant on Notting Hill and Love Actually and now for him getting an Oscar it couldn’t have happened to a better person in line for an honorary Oscar is Rowan Atkinson God bless You
When he talks about the past recent weeks, and the sadness and fear, is he referring to the US election? The Middle East conflict? What is he referring to? Thank you Richard Curtis for your words and call to action!!
Such a hero … always surprised that his The Girl in the Cafe is s9 seldom acknowledged. It brings home the message about child mortality so powerfully.🤍 A writer and directer of such love, empathy and joy. Thank you Mr Curtis…Ive loved every minute of your creativity.
THE IMITATION GAME and THE SOCIAL NETWORK both kind of fit the bill (the main character is suspected to be autistic in both cases). Both of them won Oscars in various categories.
WHY NOT Richard Curtis? He has been doing this for a longer time. Tom and Eddie are good, but this comment is now beyond any comprehension. Tom and Eddie, haha that was random.
Richard Curtis is getting the Jean Hersholt award (there is an error in the title), which is given to people in the industry that have done important work with charities or activism for years, and whose involvement has actually made a difference. Mr. Curtis essentially created Red Nose day in the UK, and it has been a huge success over the years, it has had an important impact around the world. So your suggestions (though interesting for a regular career honorary Oscar) are actually not elegible for this category.
@@saftfan In Britain, where he lived, absolutely it was a massive issue. Only completely ignorant people needed a Hollywood film in the 90s to know about it - and he is admitting to be one.

Richard Curtis' speech is a masterpiece of heartfelt humor and profound insights.
What a wonderful man! A true conscious humanitarian. Love your films. Congratulations!!!
What a great speech. Thank you for bringing awareness about the struggles of some Women and children worldwide. Great speech. Congratulations Richard.

Having an ad after he said how money should be used for charity instead of ads is crazy. :)
Agree 💯
What a wonderful man. So well deserved of this👑
Richard Curtis, . congratulations master of comedy and romance !!
Wow. Impact producing. If films would only dedicate a % to use the power to impact society - what could be done? The sky is the limit.
Wow, what a beautiful man.
Two chaps who care deeply for one another ripping each other a new one. Hilarious.
Well looks like he is a great artist and great human being

One flew over the cuckoo's nest, Manchester by the sea, Silver linings playbook, A beautiful mind, there are loads.

Why not for Tom Cruise or Eddie Murphy? Curtis is good but this is now beyond comprehension.

I'm not familiar with the humanitarian efforts of Eddie Murphy and his decades of fundraising campaigns. Could you list them?

Richard’s charity work has helped raise more than $2 billion and supported over 170 million people, that’s why
It took Tom Hanks’ role in Philadelphia for him to understand AIDS? Ooof…
🤦♂️
You know he talked about how it was 30 years ago when the movie came out?
@ AIDS was a massive issue in the 80s, a decade before the film.
@@conorfurlong not everywhere and many still believed you could get aids by shaking someones hand for instance. The movie was very important.
