    Looking great! And no worries on the messy areas, We all have them! Plus, messy areas are great shelter for the wildlife we want to attract. 😉

      I like the teepee structure, I have a couple of native honeysuckles starting now and I was just sort of leaning them against walls because I don't have trellises yet... The teepee thing looks easy enough to do.

      Thank you! It took a rest from blooming the past month and is starting back up now.

      Thanks! I think using like 5 stakes vs 3 works better. However, long term you may want something more substantial like rebar. I saw some cool ways to use it for native vines on Pinterest (maybe?).

    I definitely think there is something to some plants needing to drop their seeds right away to be successful. Don't know what it is, I have two different annuals that made a lot seeds last fall, I collected a lot of their seed and spread it everywhere pretty uniformly, trying to get them to naturalize all over. But clearly this year's seedlings are coming up mostly near where the plants were last year, so I think the self-sown ones were definitely more successful.

      Hi Hayley! I am going to sow the seeds I think tomorrow. I will keep you posted on the results. Fingers crossed I can get some using this method!!

      @@ninetypercentnative Check too if your species is meant to be distributed by ants (myrmecochory)! I learned recently, after having had no luck sowing seeds in the fall for one species, that its seeds were meant to be distributed by ants and that the seeds that I had sown did not have the elaiosomes still attached (they're like pieces of fatty plant food that the plant makes for ants, stuck to the seeds). This year I collected fresh seeds with the elaiosomes still on and I put little piles of seeds near ants in several places in my yard (this summer, the same day I collected the seeds from my Mom's house). 100% of the seeds were picked up and taken away by ants (it was fun to watch!) so I hope I get some better germination come next spring or next fall. The ants feed the elaiosomes to their larvae and then discard the seeds in underground middens with their waste, so they get sown and fertilized by ants.

    Could you tell me the growing conditions for your maple leaf viburnum? Ty

    • @ninetypercentnative
      @ninetypercentnative  Рік тому +1

      Hello! The maple leaf viburnum is in almost full shade. It may get a little hit of sun in the morning and afternoon but nothing substantial. I have clay soil, but it's the woodland soil so it's not red clay stripped of top soil like you would find under my grass. I would say the area is medium moisture but may verge a little on the dry side because of the overstory trees.
