I've often thought that Dr. Phil is displaying narcissistic humiliation on his show. He usually displays very little empathy for his guests. He feeds off of their shame and the admiration from the crowd. What a nice spot for a covert vampire. He is such a fraud.

His how is in the same category as Hoarders, My 500 Pound Life, and those survivalist shows. But, it differs in that he sees himself as brilliant, much sought after psychologist with all the answers. To do so would require him to call into question if he was wrong about something he said/did. What he is doing has worked well for him, and as long as he isn't getting in trouble with the law for his behavior, he's not about to change. He reminds me a little of Donald Trump, always believing he is right no matter what. Dr. Phil simply has far more intelligence than Donald Trump, but comes off as being just as low class. I think some families in this world would refer to him as "new money," and they would be right, he got rich, but doesn't truly have the refinement of social graces despite his best efforts of trying to convince those around him and at home that he is cultured and refine, if just another "good ol' country boy."

She's a person who both suffers from bipolar and has experienced significant trauma, yet because of her talent and fame her worst times have been put on display for the world to see, and ignorant and judgmental people have dragged her through the mud. One of the most difficult parts of bipolar is coming out of a manic episode into an overwhelming sense of shame and "Oh my God, what have I done?" That in turn feeds the depressive element, and around and around it goes. It's bad enough to go through that in the view of family and friends; I can only imagine how awful it would be to do so in the full view of the millions of strangers, many of whom feel entitled to put in their two cents' worth.

I googled a little. There's a new (written) interview with her. It seems she's still not treated but she is in no way as disconnected from reality as they made her look in that interview. She has friends and family who care for her, and although obviously not completely well, it seems she is happy where she is. No need to bother her. I forgot where the article was. The Hollywood ... something.

Thank you, Doc! I appreciate your clarity and breakdown. Soooo many folks watch this show and then think that real life therapy will be just like it is on the show. I feel like the show should AT LEAST show a warning before and offer the show for viewers so that they aren’t push away from good quality therapy by watching the show OR triggered by his style of interview. That seems fair to me...especially since he calls himself a doctor, I think cares inside and the show set up looks exactly like a therapeutic psychotherapy session. Thanks for sticking up for the woman and the field.

    Dr. Grande:
I really like that you say how you feel about someone and what you believe and you don't over do it. This was a really good video and what you pointed out about the interview between Mr. Mcgraw and Shelly Duvall. What you pointed out about embarrassing someone on his show is honestly the reason why I don't watch his shows. It is too much. Mr. Mcgraw always seems to make people that have problems feel very shameful. I find it hard that he can help someone in that way when it makes me feel uncomfortable to witness this. I'm glad that you mentioned about the clinical sense about not losing track and steady on helping a patient which is very respectful and you are there to do just that.
Apparently Mr Mcgraw likes to bully and take advantage of people that have problems. You have a lot of class Dr. Grande and I am glad you help us people and in the correct way. Thank you for being there for us and GOD bless you.

What kind of actual therapist would go out of their way to humiliate and shame their " patient"- and on national television???!!
